That is not what Jesus said about it. He said it is where âtheir worm never dies and the fire is never quenched.â
The Bible is clear that hell is a literal place or state of conscious, eternal suffering.
But the absence of God would constitute eternal suffering with a burning desire to be in His presence.
Yes, Camping believed in annihilationism which makes one wonder what they thought they were accomplishing with “Save the Date”. As you said, completely wrong and unBiblical.
Well .. Dr. Carson’s NON-belief of HELL .. doesn’t make HELL unreal.
The same is true of HEAVEN. Some people don’t believe in Heaven .. but that doesn’t make Heaven unreal.
GOD told humanity .. “I’ve set before you blessing and cursing .. Now .. you choose; BUT CHOOSE LIFE”.
When all is said and done; it will be what it IS no matter
what any of us *think*.
REALLY?
Revelation 21-8:
But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable , and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.
Matthew 25:46 - And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.
Revelation 20:15 - And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.
Mark 9:43-48 - And if thy hand offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter into life maimed, than having two hands to go into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched.
Matthew 13:50 - And shall cast them into the furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth.
Matthew 5:22 - But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire.
Luke: 22 And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham’s bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried;23 And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.
There is a literal burning place for the lost. It is certainly not a limbo-like “Time Out” corner for those who reject Christ.
Jesus definitely believed in hell.
Okay.
Matthew 25:31-46 - NLT
"When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his glorious throne. All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left."Then the King will say to those on his right, 'Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.'
"Then the righteous will answer him, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?'
"The King will reply, 'Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.'
"Then he will say to those on his left, 'Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.'
"They also will answer, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?'
"He will reply, 'Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.'
"Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life."
People don’t spend any time in the Scriptures. That’s how they come up with “crazies dancing around the fire”.
The ignorance of the Scriptures is pandemic, even in America.
I’m here to tell ya, in this economy, I have experienced those extremes. And both kinds of people.
It’s a very rude awakening to the character of many.
In the interview, Carson didn’t go into any of the soul sleep versus eternal lake of fire. He just specifically rejected the whole dungeon of devils version of Hell.
I never bothered to research Carson’s religious views because all versions of amnesty shills are my oponents.
Are we going to allow the media to set the agenda and choose our candidate for us. I mean they did such a great job picking McLame and Mittens.
The term used by Jesus for his final judgment is , “ I never knew you”
Perhaps upon our death, our souls discover just how important it is that Jesus knows us.
Might just be worth a close look at the bible to discern exactly how Jesus comes to know a person, preferably on the most positive basis possible
Just sayin’
I agree with everything you said except we are talking about spirit and not a body. The way a spirit experiences pain is likely different. In any event it was clear that Jesus was telling us that is was dreadful and it exists.
Hell IS separation from God but it is also eternal fire, suffering and darkness.
The Bible talks of literal fire not an emotional “burning for God’s presence.”
The cults and the heterodox sects started the “no literal Hell” heresy. Sadly many modern Evangelicals have started to embrace their own version of it.
The disbelief in a literal Hell is one of the biggest contributors to the breakdown of society and of faith in God.
People who don’t believe in Hell are more likely to commit horrible sins and the decent people who don’t believe in it are more likely to lose faith in a just God when they think they see the wicked “get away” with their sins.
Right. Rapture This. Pyramid that.
Good riddance
Perhaps an equally bad problem is trying to see eternally scoped events through fleshly eyes.
Invalid conclusions result from invalid premises.
Usually the simple references are dispositive. “The devil has taken them captive to do his will.” The ultimate hell is what you get when that state of affairs is carried by the captive’s choice (every possible freeing gospel offer refused) to its ultimate conclusions. People are known to willfully embrace ugly states of hellish existence even on earth, where they seem to be very enamored of their misery, and rebuff any proposed alternative with vigorous vituperation; why we should fancy that nothing uglier exists in eternity is beyond me. Examples exist on earth for a reason.
Or from another point of view, people tend to ignore the wickedness of hell and only think of its miseries. But wickedness is why it behaves as it does. We don’t ever see any scriptural depiction with souls begging to get out of the state once it has become eternal... never. Wickedness has erased that notion in those souls.
Maybe this question is above your pay grade too. Lots of religions threaten. Only Christian faith has a promise that is unmatched.
This is entirely in the mainstream for American presidents. Many of them have professed kooky variants of the Christian faith.
yep.
