Quoting Joe Namath, Jeb Bush ‘Guarantees’ Nomination

WALTERBORO, SC (AP)—At a South Carolina fund raiser today republican Presidential candidate Jeb Bush reached back into history to quote one of football's great former quarterbacks, Joe Namath of the New York Jets.

When asked by a supporter if he thinks he can win the party's nomination Bush replied ‘I guarantee it’ which is the same reply given by Namath to a reporter when asked if the Jets could beat Earl Morrells’ Baltimore Colts in the 1968 season Super Bowl III.

At the time, Joe Namath was the most flamboyant quarterback in the AFL and the prediction created a media firestorm around the young quarterback and the Jets a few days before the big game.

When asked how his campaign would overcome the large polling deficit between himself and the leading candidates, Bush's body tensed into a slight hunch and with elbows pulled into his sides and fists clinched replied, ‘We're gonna go inside, we're gonna go outside, inside and outside. We're gonna get ‘em on the run and once we get ‘em on the run we're gonna keep ‘em on the run. And then we're gonna go go go go go go and we're not gonna stop til we get across that goal line!’

The twenty or so supporters in the banquet room at the Walterboro Holiday Inn erupted into cheers seeing their candidate so enthused.

‘It's reviving and refreshing to see new energy in Jeb’ said another supporter, ‘after seeing that I wrote a check for $20’ she said.

Bush's campaign continues to build and hopes to accelerate on the endorsement from former Presidential candidate and GOP powerhouse Senator Lindsey Graham.

Maybe not delusional. It seems to be down to a two man race, Trump and Cruz, but if both remain strong and deny each other majorities in the primaries, then the selection may just be made by the RNC. Bush just needs to still be in the running i.e. on the ballot. He is, after all, next in line.

Seems like the real reason the Jets won has been missed by the masses. The Jets won due to that invincible New York attitude and values.

There is simply no other reason.

Thank God it wasn’t the Rams that lost that game - poor Baltimore. I called the Joe Bohannon show on Friday before the game and he predicted a Jets win as well. I was a 10 year old pro football fanatic - wild about the Colts and the L. A. Rams - Packers too but not as much - I was a Western Conference loyalist

Joe Namath: 62 wins, 63 losses. Something like 170 touchdowns to 220 interception. Not a dominant quarterback, but he picked the right time to have his best game.

Namath did have an incredible arm, and he had some games for the Jets where he put up eye-popping numbers. And that was in the days when the pro game wasn’t so passing friendly (well, the AFL more so than the NFL yes). Of course he also played in the media center of NYC, so even though playing in what many considered the junior league, at least till Super Bowl III, he got the media coverage. When the Chiefs beat the Vikings the following year, the equalization was complete, and when the Colts did win the Super Bowl, beating the Cowboys in a wild one, they did it as the AFC representative.

Scary...he is either delusional or the voting is rigged. Either way just creepy and scary.

he didn’t put that many points up either in that game.

He said later on he guaranteed it, and after he said that didn’t give it a second thought, until everyone ran with it lol.

he was like “what have i done?”

such is life. a side comment put you down in history.

i am SO SICK of people using that line because NO ONE out of all the dozens of players who have said it since, were right.

jeb will be the next example.

and imagine broadway joe was considered wild because of a fur coat and his chasing of women.

now it’s the BEATING of women!!

My 1960s memory is of boring NFL games except Cleveland-Jim Brown games in the afternoon and wild AFL aerial displays featuring Len Dawson and Darryl Lamonica in the early evening.
