Gov. Snyder: Clinton politicizing Flint's water crisis (MI)

Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder responded Monday to criticism from presidential candidate Hillary Clinton during the Democratic debates for his handling of Flint's water emergency, saying Clinton is making it a political issue.

During Sunday's debate, Clinton said "every single American should be outraged" by the water crisis, adding that "if the kids in a rich suburb of Detroit had been drinking contaminated water and being bathed in it, there would have been action."

Following a speaking engagement at a Martin Luther King Day event in Flint, the Republican governor said her tactic doesn't help solve the problem.

"We're going to keep working on putting solutions in place," Snyder told The Detroit News. "And what I would say is: Politicizing the issue doesn't help matters. Let's focus in on the solution and how to deal with the damage that was done and help the citizens of Flint and make Flint a stronger community." ...

The topic of Flint’s water system came up as Sunday School was ending yesterday. I was amazed at just how little the people knew about what actually happened in Flint or about Flint itself and how it found itself where it is today. No doubt LIVs will see Clinton’s “concern” as a positive.

Governor can’t run every city in the state, and the Mayor of Flint is a Democrat.... And Michael Moore wants this to be a case of genocide against blacks...

Well....

Michael Moore, Jesse Jackson, Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton - wow.

The reason Flint is in its mess is because of the demoncrapic mayors and board members who used Flint as their personal ATM machine. Plying their graft and getting high-paying, no-work jobs for their buds. Draining the system dry.

What? Flint doesn't have enough money to pay its policemen? No money to maintain the proper water system?

And they all want the Republican Gov. Snyder to be rung up an a rail.

1993 Milwaukee Cryptosporidiosis outbreak
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
(Redirected from Milwaukee Cryptosporidium outbreak)

The 1993 Milwaukee Cryptosporidiosis outbreak was a significant distribution of the Cryptosporidium protozoan in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and the largest waterborne disease outbreak in documented United States history. The Howard Avenue Water Purification Plant (see Town of Lake water tower) was contaminated, and treated water showed turbidity levels well above normal. It was one of two water treatment plants for Milwaukee. The root cause of epidemic was never officially identified; initially it was suspected to be caused by the cattle genotype due to runoff from pastures.[1] It was also thought that melting ice and snowmelt carrying Cryptosporidium may have entered the water treatment plants through Lake Michigan.[2] MacKenzie et al. and the CDC showed that this outbreak was caused by Cryptosporidium oocysts that passed through the filtration system of one of the city’s water-treatment plants, arising from a sewage treatment plant’s outlet 2 miles upstream in Lake Michigan.

This abnormal condition at the water purification plant lasted from March 23 through April 8, after which, the plant was shut down. Over the span of approximately two weeks, 403,000[3] of an estimated 1.61 million residents in the Milwaukee area (of which 880,000 were served by the malfunctioning treatment plant) became ill with the stomach cramps, fever, diarrhea and dehydration caused by the pathogen. At least 104[3] deaths have been attributed to this outbreak, mostly among the elderly and immunocompromised people, such as AIDS patients.

The responsibility to provide safe drinking water in the state of Michigan lies first with the public water supply and second with the Michigan department of environmental quality. If they did their jobs, Flint submitted their plans to the MDEQ with a licensed PE stamp and would have received written approval from the state before proceeding. Both parties are at fault here, and perhaps the A&E firm as well.

Issue is that the state forced Flint to do this for economic reasons, so you can’t lay it at the mayors/city council’s feet, they were not the ones who did this, they were forced into it by the state.

As far as this thing goes, those responsible need to be held fully accountable, I don’t care what letter is beside their name on the ballot.

If this blog is correct, there is no quick solution to Flint’s water problems. http://www.inkstain.net/fleck/2015/12/sierra-madre-ca-introduces-colorado-river-water-winds-up-with-the-tucson-problem/

This is irrespective of the political problems.

Interesting assessment here.

The real tragedy in Flint

Plenty of blame to go around but mostly stupidity. If there is any "criminal" behavior it belongs to Detroit who threatened to cut off Flint's water supply a year before Flint would be able to supply their own.

Which, of course, just adds to the problem. With Flint already in bad financial shape, this looks to be a very long-term problem.

It was the city’s responsibility to provide clean safe drinking water. That’s why the Mayor, council, and utilities commissioners got the big salaries and license to steal as much as they could as long as they provided safe clean drinking water.

It was the BLACK DemoRAT Flint city council that voted to discontinue using Detroit Water. Before the city went into receivership.

It was the responsibility of the BLACK DemoRAT Water Department to test the water, not the State of Michigan

This is the result of BLACK DemoRAT political control of cities like Flint, Detroit, St. Louis over many decades and thecorruption and malfeasance that accompanies it.

It is my understanding that the MDEQ and the EPA both knew the rising levels of lead in the water supply in mid-2015. Did they notify the City, County or State about this?

I believe either one of them could have issued and halt of water for potable use instantly.
