Trump Spokesperson Says Ted Cruz Eminent Domain Attack Ad ‘Outright Lies’
Breit Bart ^ | 1-23-16 | by Michael Patrick Leahy

"The ad is very misleading. In fact, it outright lies about a widow's home being bulldozed," Pierson tells Breitbart News in an exclusive interview. "When you look at the facts, there is a process in place for eminent domain which was followed in this instance. Ms. Coking ended up keeping her property for years, because Mr. Trump didn't purchase it, and it ended up saving him a fortune," Pierson adds. In 2014, 16 years after the court battle ended and several years after Coking moved to California, her grandson sold the house at auction for $530,000, far less than Trump was willing to pay her in the 1990s. Folks need to do some sentence diagramming and analyze what the ad actually said. It did not say Trump "bulldozed," it said Trump "colluded." He did! He took her to court, with the collusion of the government to try to get his bulldozing. But there Trump... lost. The ad may imply Trump got his bulldozing, but it doesn't actually say it. Trump, and his supporters, may not like it, but ad is true. It was probably written by a clever lawyer to make folks think more than they were actually saying. But then Trump thought he had the clever lawyers when he colluded to try to steal the widow's house. It doesn't matter that he offered to pay her more than HE thought the house was worth or than any third party thought the house was worth. He wasn't offering to pay her what SHE thought it was worth! It wouldn't have been a voluntary transaction, it would have been theft via raw government force. Fortunately Trump's side's lawyers weren't as clever as they thought and she proved to be the tougher dealer in this case. It doesn't matter that her estate sold the house for much less, the issue was HER deal, not her heirs' deal. She got the deal she wanted, no deal! She was able to stay in HER house as long as SHE wanted. That's the way America is supposed to work. If a richer dude, such as Bloomberg, wanted to buy Trump Tower to put up a cab stand and Trump didn't want to sell, all of Bloomberg's government connections shouldn't let him take it.

The Supreme court was horribly wrong deciding, Kelo, and not for the first time. Once it took the most precious personal property of a man homesteading in what would become MY town (Bettendorf, IA), his freedom. Slavery had never been legal here nor in Illinois where he'd been taken earlier. He should have become free as soon as he left slavery's jurisdiction. But government, via a bad Supreme Court, took his personal property, his freedom. It was the same principle: she owned her house; he owned himself. Dred Scott v. Sandford took our worst war to overturn. Kelo just needs to have a President, who understands the Constitution and the principles on which it was built, to appoint better Supreme Court justices, to overturn it. If Trump doesn't understand this, how can he be trusted to appoint judges who'll rule when it's our stuff, and our freedom, on the line?

582 people polled or 1,000,000 polled on Drudge poll,
it all boils down to statistics. Only thing which changes is MOE (margin of error). May be you do not believe in SCIENCE of statistics. Even in my engineering major, I had to take course in statistics.

Well opinions make horse races and we can agree to disagree. I think most of the articles are hack jobs that take statements out of context and lie through insinuation. I trust the media and talking head’s as far as I can throw them. That’s why I make it a habit to google and drill down to find out what was actually said. I value your honest discourse.

Can I assume you did not bother to read the article(s)? People who are either more curious or less committed to Trump will read them, once the media start trotting them out on front pages when he gets the nomination. I understand your reluctance to read articles that contradict your deeply-held belief about Trump, but let me suggest that you go beyond your comfort zone, especially since Trump is a complete stranger to you and his image is the result of many millions of dollars of professional public relations efforts. I've been reading about Trump since the mid-80's. I never thought he was a nice guy, and I never dreamed that he was looking out for anyone's interests but his own.

The distinction, as I understand it, is using eminent domain for a public purpose (narrowly defined) like an airport or highway, and using it for a predominantly private purpose, like a casino or shopping center. Some fans of the Kelo decision get on the slippery slope and argue that there is a public purpose to granting the power of eminent domain to a private developer who would, for example, build a shopping center on a tract the local government would like to see improved but requires eminent domain to secure a few parcels to make the development “work.”

Here is a fact to make your head explode: Carl Icahn bought Vera’s house!
Icahn owner of Vera Coking’s A.C. house
ATLANTIC CITY - Vera Coking famously refused to sell to Donald Trump. But in the end, she sold to Carl Icahn.

So I guess if Donald wants to actually bulldoze it, he will have to talk to Carl! :-) YOU JUST CAN’T MAKE THIS STUFF UP!!

Because Zhang sees his man now drowning in the only state he once had a 2 point lead, and now 10 points behind in the latest poll from Iowa. Zhang is doing exactly the same thing as any drowning man would do...grab on to anything floating nearby. Even if it is a poisonous snake.

Actually, I'm trying to avoid having to vote for a venomous snake by the name of Donald Trump as the lesser of two evils at the November polls.

It's good to know that the Donald doesn't always succeed in bulldozing the little guy out of the way. Still, I have to wonder how much Vera Coking spent in legal fees to fight Trump's bought-and-paid-for politicians. Given how Trump has engineered the birther and bank loan distortions, here's to hoping that this eminent domain distortion flushes him down the commode. It would be poetic justice if he who lives by distortion might actually die (politically) by distortion.

No Trump didn’t take Vera Coking to court. The NJCRDA did or actually she took them when her house was condemned. They have overseen a very large number of projects, lots of eminent domain involving projects by many developers.

For anyone that wants more philly.com has 5 pages of articles http://articles.philly.com/keyword/vera-coking

Someone had to sell their part of their property for most if not all of the following due to Eminent Domain.

Any one who drives on a city, county, state road or interstate is able to do it because of Eminent Domain.

If you fly out of any major airport, it was built because of Eminent Domain.

Like pro or College football, more than likely the stadium and your seat was built due to Eminent Domain.

The electricity you use to post or whatever is coming over poles and line probably due to Eminent Domain.

I am 68 and I agree about the lesser evils. I hate to say it but Hillary or any Dem will finish this country off. Romans 1:22 “Professing to be wise they became fools.” Sadly we are in end times in my opinion . This country that I loved more then my own life has become a monster I do not recognize. My belief is that only Trump can stand up to the PAC’s, the K Street types, etc. Yes, I suggested Trump change doing something about 3 months ago. He did not. I started reading about what people who really know him said. That made me much more comfortable.

Polls change based on new information. I've waiting for Cruz to do to Trump what he did to Dewhurst. It ain't over till the fat lady sings. At the debate, Cruz will finally stop pulling his punches, and go for the jugular.

Steve knock off posting this reality. That is not fair!

In the News/Activism forum, on a thread titled Trump Spokesperson Says Ted Cruz Eminent Domain Attack Ad Outright Lies, SteveSCH wrote:

Ad is a lie - Trump never bull dozed it, never bought it.

Years later It was bull dozed... in 2014 after it was sold in an auction.

The buyer was Carl Ichan...

Yes, this election cycle is a lot of fun.
At the end of day, Trump & Cruz & other republicans running are lot closer to each other, compared to Hillary/Sanders.
I never forget that.

Absolutely. My misgivings about Trump mainly revolve around (1) suspicions about what he really believes, (2) distrust about his sudden affection for conservatives - people that New Yorkers tend to make unprintable jokes about and (3) the shoddy way in which he has treated friends and relatives. Nonetheless, I'll vote for him if he gets the nomination, because he's better than Hillary or Sanders. And on immigration, his current stated position is better than Rubio's. Still, the billion dollar question is which of his past political statements is the real Donald Trump. Does he have any political beliefs at all? Or is his principal belief what's good for Donald Trump is good for America?

No I wouldn’t assume that at all.

I read them both and then I looked further into the circumstances. The links both had the feel of articles aimed at tugging the heart strings and selling papers so I searched to see what the financial circumstances of the family with the son who was disabled were, what resources they had, if the estrangement was temporary etc.

I would like to draw your attention to the fact that while the grandchildren had sued and were striking out because they were unhappy with the will the family had ample resources. http://www.stamfordadvocate.com/news/article/Trump-family-gives-back-to-agency-that-helps-4590816.php

I do enjoy the British tabloids but if I am really interested I use them to mine for data from other sources. I always like several sources and if possible use ones that are written closer to the time of the actual issue. The business with the will was apparently related to actions taken by the son that angered the father as well as a daughter-in-law issue. Trump agreed with his father but I saw no evidence that he intervened in the will; it was the father’s choice. The child at issue was not left without care; in fact he has had superb care.
