Trump to Cruz: Settle eligibility question or 'get out' of the race
Politico ^ | 01/25/2016 | Nick Gass

Donald Trump stepped up his attack on Ted Cruz on Monday, tweeting that the Texas senator needs to "either settle his problem" of having been born in Canada or leave the race.

"It's time for Ted Cruz to either settle his problem with the FACT that he was born in Canada and was a citizen of Canada, or get out of race," Trump tweeted Monday morning, on the heels of Fox News polls released over the weekend that showed him with double-digit leads over Cruz in both Iowa and New Hampshire.

Trump has insisted over the course of the last month that Cruz needs to tackle the issue of his eligibility because he was born in Calgary, Canada, despite Cruz's assertions that he is eligible based on the fact that his mother was born in the United States. Cruz renounced his dual Canadian citizenship in 2014, a fact that Trump has frequently pointed out as cause for concern.

Why doesn't Cruz take his Constitutional arguments as to why he feels he is a Natural Born Citizen, and publish them is newspapers as a full-page ad? Then when people strive to refute his arguments, he can explain his case.

I assume you think that having "Trump mentality" is a bad thing. I take it as a complement...we're angry about where the US is now, but have confidence that a person who is a force of nature just might be able to turn things around.

I really, really doubt that the founding fathers meant that someone with an American mother and a foreign father, born anywhere in the world, and being a citizen there, was supposed to be a "natural born citizen" of the US.

Definition of Natural Born Citizen: One who is a citizen by virtue of birth.

This means that there doesn't have to be a naturalization by court or Congress to make you a citizen. There are two natural ways to become a citizen... Jus Soli (by the soil) or Jus Sanguinis (by the blood). So the question comes down to this... was Ted Cruz a citizen of the US by birth? If he required naturalization, then he was not. If he simply required recognition of his already held birthright, then he was.

I, as a supporter, would like this put to bed. Which is it?

A fair point. So why doesn’t Donny man up and bring the lawsuit instead of just sitting in bed playing with his Tweeter over it?

Its not HIS problem. Its Cruz'.

All Cruz needs to do is get a forged birth certificate showing his parents as citizens at the time of his birth in Hawaii or some other state. Remember we already have the precedent that forged BC cannot be challenged. Pretty simple and saves a long court fight.

There were many, many who laughed this off when the Washington Post first brought it up, and Trump gave the story legs under the guise of "helpfulness."

I'm afraid it's become Cruz's "brand" now. Similar to how Bush was branded "low energy."

It's in the culture now. Rightfully or wrongfully, I don't think Cruz can overcome it.

And, regardless of what anyone may think, there's a case for doubt and the dimocrats would have killed him on the issue. Better now than then.

I no longer listen to Levin.

I listen to Levin twice as much as I used to.

And Trump should go to court or shut up.

If Trump is so bent out of shape over Cruz’s eligibility then he should file suit against the New York Secretary of State for allowing Cruz’s name on the ballot.

t. When it comes to Obama and his eligibility? Trump is nowhere to be found and is willing to remain sheepish on the topic.

Are you daft? Trump was practically the ONLY public figure who made an issue out of Obama's eligibility. It was ONLY because of him that Obama had to have a fake birth certificate manufactured.

“This has been resolved in favor of Cruz by far more people than still question it.”

When did that happen?

That list is bull crap. I have heard him saying the opposite of some of that on the campaign trail.

Believe it or not, there are 1,159 people running for President.
You can get the list at: http://www.fec.gov/data/CandidateSummary.do

Any one of them has standing to sue to resolve this issue (address is listed at the site). They could be contacted and requested to press the issue.

Chomi Prag has already filed a complaint with the New Hampshire Election’s Board.

The list of people running for the Office of President is too long to post here :(

It seems that Ted Cruz was best buds with John Roberts, but that seems to have changed.

Maybe he already has been told what the result would be and that is why Ted isn’t asking.

Surely Cruz has a FRIEND somewhere in a position to bring it before a court. I never thought this would get ‘legs’ but it did. He does need to get it settled.

Why not get a declaratory judgement? If it's such as slam dunk for Cruz why not do it?

You can’t get a declaratory judgment from a federal court without an actual case in controversy.

Theoretical controversy, such as that debated by scholars and pundits in the political arena, does not qualify as a legal controversy.

BS. Like him or not Trump hasn’t strong armed any of the tens of thousands that attend his rallies nor the millions who support him. What he has done he has struck a powerful note that resonates like hell with the people.

“So sayeth King Donald!”

No, that would be King Glenn Beck, who anointed Cruz, his underling, president.

Trump is far from the only one who knows Ted has problem. I don’t care how it comes out, even if he is ‘natural born’,which he isn’t ...I want a president BORN ON US SOIL.

Motion demands Cruz be removed from Illinois ballot
Republican lawyer ‘terrified’ unresolved status might open door to Democrat victory (filed by Carson supporter)

“The result could be that the Democrats may chalk up a string of three or four or five victories [in their election board petitions] in a row, potentially forcing Cruz to resign the nomination (if for no other reason than that fund raising would quickly dry up),” Joyce explained.

“Then Mr. [Karl] Rove and company would hand-pick his replacement as the nominee,” he concluded.
