Trump will 'definitely not' participate in Fox debate, campaign says

MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa -- Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump says he will not attend a debate scheduled for Thursday night in Des Moines, an unexpected twist just days before voters here launch the election process.

"I probably won't be doing the debate. I'm going to have something else in Iowa," he said during a press conference on Tuesday afternoon.

After the press conference, Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski confirmed to The Washington Post that Trump would "definitely not" participate in Thursday's Fox News debate.

"He's definitely not participating in the Fox News debate," Lewandowski said. "His word is his bond."

He said Trump would remain in Iowa as planned and would instead host an event in the state to raise money for wounded warriors and other veterans groups.

Trump has made such threats before, but he said that the Fox News Channel, which is hosting the debate Thursday night, had gone too far by issuing press statements on Tuesday that he said mocked his concern about Megyn Kelly, one of the debate co-moderators.

"They're dealing with someone who's a little bit different. They can't toy with me like they toy with everybody else," he added.

When Trump saw the press release from Fox, "I said, 'Bye bye,'" he said.

Trump said his event on Thursday will benefit military veterans and service members wounded in war.

She was not that way last night...kisssing the butt of demented, nutcase, ego-maniac Glenn Beck. She was full of her low life, hate and envy of Donald Trump!!! She was ranting and raving about having so much fun at the debate Thursday evning with loser Brett Baier and that weak sister, Chris Wallace!!! What a gutter witch this horrible excuse for a woman that Megyn Kelly is!!!!!! FNC is headed for obscurity!!!

There is only one way for Roger Ailes to save face....dump Megyn Kelly....immediately, and then apoligize on live TV to Donald Trump!!!

I would expect FOX to set up an empty podium for each candidate to look at prior to answering a question about Trump. Having said that I love the fact that he is absolutely trolling the media.

Great reference and spot-on as to the testicular fortitude it takes to be so bold. :-)

That old Star Trek episode is a particular favorite of mine!

Some significant events have taken place since the last debate. I would have liked to hear how Trump would have handled things differently from Obama and what he’d do if similar situations occurred on his watch.

A presidential debate is different. It’s not about Trump and the media and ratings. It’s a job interview in front of the American public.

Oh BS, that's the way it was in the old days... back when it was a big deal to have 2 candidates debate in the weeks before the general election.

These media circus things, with friggin' 7 people on stage, are useless in terms of actually finding out any detail about anything these people are about. These "debates" are cash-machines for the networks.

I'm tired of the establishment media deciding our candidates and leaders. Let's let the people decide, just this time around. Trump doesn't work for Fox News, and neither do I. I read his position statements directly from his web site... something Fox would never even admit exists. I'll make my own decision.

I agree with you. Network "debates" are a joke. Questions like "What woman would you put on a $20 bill" and "What would you like your Secret Service codename to be?"

If I watch debates at all, it's for the entertainment value. It has no influence on my voting decision at all.

Good. The media moderators who show up at these debates aren’t there to moderate, but themselves are there to debate Republicans. Same goes for the TV talk shows especially late night. Anytime Leno, Letterman and now the two new fools get a Republican on their talk show the ask condescending questions, and Republicans would keep going back. Way to take a stand TRUMP!! BTW I thought Cobert dissed you on his show last night. Seems like the reason he said he liked you was you helped his ratings.

“Trump bought off who?”

The real question is who hasn’t Trump bought off in his “deals”. Even during the debate, he lashed back at Krispy for taking his money. The gut is the epitome of power and corruption.

If you don’t have the balls to walk away from a tv show you’ll never have them when it means letting the govt shut down. Or walk away from a bad trade deal.

So now we find Fake News was going to have a Mooselimb activist at the debate asking questions. This was an ambush and he outsmarted them.

After every debate during presidential cycles, Republicans and conservatives come on FR and say, rightfully, "WHY does the Republican leadership allow our candidates to participate in these debates moderated by liberals and haters whose questions are totally designed in prejudice and bias to GET the Republican? Why do we do it every year? The Republicans need to refuse to do it with these main stream media/Government controlled media asking the questions with their extreme leftist/Democrat party bias."

EVERY debate season preceding every presidential election. Why doesn't the GOP chairman stop this, why AGREE to it, why not DEMAND to be treated fairly? Why do we need "moderators" asking questions anyway?

NOW we finally have a candidate with the cajones, the only one in this bunch, only one in living memory, to refuse to participate unless the debate host network removes the HIGHLY PARTISAN, unqualified, proven Trump hater, transparently seeking to curry favor with her left wing friends and colleagues.

And NOW the Cruzers on FR who weren't even around for all these previous debates in history, knew or cared nothing about politics or were simply Democrats---NOW these people, to support their Establishment candidate, call Trump a COWARD, he's too afraid to face Megyn Kelly. Even Ted Goldman Sachs Cruz is saying it. That's pitiful, because THIS is EXACTLY what conservatives and republicans have wanted for years and years: to NOT let the host network get away with using moderators who are leftists intent upon embarrassing and trying to ruin our candidates, in this case Trump.

So Trump is THE one to set the precedent, to DO what everyone before just TALKED about, and the idiots who should be over on Commitment2Establishment so childishly say, Trump is afraid of Megyn Kelly! LOL!!!!!!!!!!

PS---Trump kicked ass in SIX DEBATES and no one laid a glove on him, and now the losers want another shot at the heavy weight champion. But they aren't in his class. So no rematch.

The Republicans keep going on these shows because it is in their learned nature to “go along to get along” just like how they make legislation to “go along to get along” with the leftists.

Oh, I think what Reagan did was far more consequential than just a narcissistic tantrum.

People said the same thing about Reagan at the time. They said that Carter's approach of always caving to the Soviets showed "real courage" because it kept the world safe.

Why do you want a Jimmy Carter type president? Whether you like Trump or not, why not applaud the action of standing up yourself and not willingly walking into ambushes?

The gored oxen lie bleeding alongside the trail to November 2016. I expect there will be more. The man knows how to play the game like none we have seen in a very long time. Too bad that some of those oxen are fellow FReepers. Politicks is not a game for the squeamish.

If you haven’t heard, the attack on Trump at the debate was to include a couple of internet people (I think they’re Muslims - or they’re supporting Muslims), and they were invited to join in the interviewing of the candidates.

And .. we all know what that meant .. they were going to hammer Trump for saying he was going to keep ALL Muslims from coming here; at least until we can find who is here, and what their purpose is.

It was a NASTY trick .. and I suspect somebody tipped off Trump .. and that’s why he is skipping the debate.

Megyn has to be fuming .. serves her right.

Cruz wrote the legislation that allowed the wounded and killed at Ft Hood to receive the pay and awards they deserved.

But .. I don’t suppose that is enough for you.

You mean the “journalists” FOX is bringing into the debate .. people from the internet who are upset about Donald’s comment about keeping Muslims out of America ..??

Are those the “journalists” you’re talking about ..????

If you would read instead complaining about Donald all the time, you might actually learn something.
