One can't help but notice that there is a strong contingent of what can only be described as people who hate the idea of Donald Trump being President. It's descended into outright personal hatred by some.
But wow...ever since he announced that he wouldn't be doing the debate it's gone up to a whole new level.
My question is...why?? The main insult of detractors now seems to be "Oooh...Trump can't handle questions from a girl how's he going to handle (FILL IN THE BLANK DESPOT)?" Or Trump is afraid of Cruz. Or Trump is afraid to debate.
Now if these things are so easy to discern then shouldn't these folks be outrageously happy? If this is going to hurt Trump so much and make him look so bad shouldn't they be encouraging him to stay out of the debate instead of trying to goad him into it?
Is there any way that any people who don't support Trump can admit that this is a brilliant political move? His one announcement has given him at least 48 hours of wall to wall Trump coverage. He's backed FOX into a corner and made advertisers angry at FOX. He was sure to be the main target of all the candidates AND at least one moderator...but now all the other candidates are going to be gunning for Ted Cruz instead. So he's letting the other candidates try to take out Cruz and he doesn't have to lift a finger.
Now don't get me wrong I love Cruz and IF he could get elected I would love a President Cruz. Cruz is a fighter BUT he's not a leader. And that's the big difference. Trump is a fighter AND a leader.
So if skipping this debate is bad for Trump then why the hyper vitriol?
OKay then you believe he's hurting himself by not doing it. So why even be concerned? Why not just say "I'm glad he's skipping it...this will crash him in Iowa for sure."
Fine. A rational thought. Lord knows we've been burned many times. May I ask, what is your one overriding area of Mr. Trump's positions since entering the race that you distrust? Do you doubt there will be a wall built if he becomes president?
and this is where I will ask you my question concerning Mr. Cruz. Do you want an executive in the Excutive office of the United States of America or do you want a great lawyer born in Calgary, Alberta Canada? Just an your opinion on that please. I am not trying to slander Mr. Cruz. If anything I ask you is untrue, please do not bother to answer me.
Because Cruz has relied on Trumps coattails to get to the measly level in the polls where he is now. Trump draws viewers to the debates and the candidates all benefit because more viewers are exposed to them. Now that Trump is gone from this debate, nobody will watch...maybe 2 million. The candidates are all going to begin tanking now.
Cruz called Trump scared of a girl yesterday and today he’s begging him to come back to the debate...then he offered a one on one debate as well. If what Trump did is so horrible and damaging to Trump, then why doesn’t Cruz let Trump dig his own grave? Because Trump is better off that’s why!
If that's true, then Cruz should Cruise to victory. :-)
I don't "hate" Trump. I don't trust him further than I could throw him over his imaginary Great Wall.
He'd make a great pitch man for the US at the UN.
I think he would make a lousy president. Kinda like Obama without the ideological convictions.
?????
Its the Trumpettes who are foaming at their mouths over this.
Its fun to watch all the others calling Trump scared.
100% agree.
I don’t care one wit if DC doesn’t like him, I’m not electing a friend but a leader.
You would think the Trump haters would be thrilled that Cruz gets
center stage to show how smart Cruz is.
Instead of being thrilled, they are angry and defensive.
I don't get why people think this is such a pie in the sky notion or worse yet why they think it's a lie. It's a construction project to him and if he knows anything it's construction projects.
As far as what kind of President I think he would be a President who would go through with what he promised. This is based on "The Art of the Deal" where he plainly writes that you have to deliver what's promised. He's promising a generally conservative agenda and that's what I think he'll deliver.
Ha.
They will be slicing and dicing each other at the debate
while Trump raises money for Vets.
Think I will tune in to Trumps event.
I know! This is Cruz's chance to shine without being overshadowed by Trump. I think he will shine with ultra-conservatives. But not with anybody else. And that's really been his problem in the Senate. He doesn't know how to translate his conservatism into populism. Trump does.
I think debate is a better and more moral and intelligent way to make a decision than the criteria you are outlining.
I do support Cruz and I do think Trump hurt himself but I do think for the sake of the nation, the best choices are made through debate.
The debates are far from perfect but the various tweets and social media jabs are less helpful.
“is there any way that any people who don’t support Trump can admit that this is a brilliant political move?”
I’ve talked to 5 members of my family who have regularly voted Republican, and 3 others I met during business today...and 8 of 8 thought Trump is a wussie afraid of a girl asking him questions. 3 of the 8 said they would not vote for Trump in the general.
Not seeing the brilliance.
That remains to be seen. He is not now nor has he ever been a conservative ideologue. His conservatism is pragmatic rather than dogmatic and his response to problems always seems to center on getting the government to fix them and not recognizing that big government is the problem.
He is not a "states rights" or "local control" advocate.
In short, he is Donald Trump. He thinks he can fix everything by consorting with the likes of Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer, John McCain and all the politicians he thinks owe him favors because of the generous donations he gave to them.
He lives in a sort of fantasyland in that regard.
I want a president who is willing to shut down the government in order to save it.
There is only one candidate in this election that was willing to do that. It wasn't Trump.
Screw the UN. It's one of the places Mr. Trump should renovate and make into housing for the vets IMHO.
Maybe a real debate. But virtually ALL Republican debates are run by people who hate Republicans and especially conservative Republicans. Not so for Democrats. So Republican debates are generally a vehicle for taking out conservatives and saddling us with moderate to liberal establishment types. This Republican debate was designed specifically to take out Trump AND Cruz. Trump figured it out. Cruz knows he's not going to get hammered but if he drops out now it makes it look like he's following Trump.
I have asked this question several times, but gotten little response...
I’ll try again....
For those who are pulling for one of the republican candidates other than Trump...
If Trump becomes the nominee, will you vote for him???
Ted’s angry because he’s borrowed a buttload of money hoping the pay-off would be the Presidency.
Does anyone else recognize the egomania of this candidate?
He thinks more highly of himself than Obama thinks of himself.
Trading one narcissistic egomaniac for another.
A lot of people here are going to regret supporting Trump.
He is not really one of us. He is one of THEM.
