CNN’s Brooke Baldwin Calls Ted Cruz Statement ‘B.S.’
CNN ^ | February 3

Posted on 02/03/2016 11:03:37 PM PST by Helicondelta

CNN has accused the campaign of Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz of making false statements about the network's reporting on the campaign of GOP rival Ben Carson. "Senator Cruz's claims about CNN are false," the network said in a statement Wednesday evening. "At no point did the network indicate Dr. Carson would suspend his campaign."

The network's reporting-that Carson would make a trip to Florida before resuming his campaign-came as voters in Iowa were preparing to make the first solid votes of the 2016 campaign. CNN's statement said "Dr. Carson's staff informed CNN that he would return home to take a 'deep breath' before resuming his activities on the trail. That information was reported accurately by CNN across TV and digital."

7:00 Cruz staff/rep posts screen capture of CNN report

C'mon buddy...the Cruz campaign posted much more than just a screen shot, they sent instructions to their precinct captains to use a false Carson is out narrative to convince his caucus goers to vote for Cruz.

Did that happen at your caucus...did Cruz PCs make that pitch?

Like Obama, I have the feeling that his mother kept telling him that he was “brilliant” and “special”, but never really corrected him/taught him how to behave.

Your explanation is probably closer than mine. Both of my sister's kids seem a little socially awkward probably because they advanced so quickly that their classmates were years older than they were. But their personality traits come across different than Ted's.

I know I am going to catch some heavy flack by mentioning this, but Cruz makes the hair stand up on the back of my neck. Another famous Ted, Ted Bundy grew up a couple miles from where I grew up. His mother went to the same church that we did for a few years. I don't remember Ted Bundy at all but my parents knew his mom pretty well. She worked for my great Uncle Ed for a while. My dad used to ponder about Ted Bundy frequently to me after he got caught and he said that there was always something creepy about Ted Bundy that made the hair stand up on the back of his neck. I really wasn't sure what he meant until this election season.

I am glad that whatever it is with Ted Cruz caused him to become a lawyer and get into politics instead of stalking and killing women. But as much as I tried to get myself to like him early on... I can't really seem to shake the feeling that there is something not quite right about him. This certainly could be more a reflection on myself and just some subconscious memory whose source I am not completely aware of. So I will put on my foil hat and shut up now.

I posted about my caucus elsewhere.

1. One rumor - a candidate was gonna stop, heard that buzz before starting.
2. There were 7 precincts in the room (2k people?)
3. National Anthem, pledge, invocation.
4. 8ish folks spoke for misc candidates
5. Neither Cruz speaker nor Carson speaker talked about this ‘issue’
6. Ted showed up and spoke...way cool.
7. I hung out for a couple hours - most had already gone home, I wanted to get results and such (Ted, Rubio, then Carson/Trump would be the results where I was, across the 7 precincts)
8. I first heard about the CNN report and Cruz staff tweets when I got back home and on FR.

I can’t say that it wasn’t mentioned in the room I was in, but 1) I did hear the one rumor and 2) this wasn’t mentioned.

Carson spoke at my church on Jan 24th. An incredible story, loved to hear him. Was cool to realize that I may have never been in a room with a smarter man before...

Full disclosure - I voted for Cruz at the caucus. And I would do it again if Trump gets his way and we have to re-vote.

"Cruz, Trump, and Carson are the conservative outsiders."

Why would think a guy when to best elitist schools, a guy that married a high level Golden Sachs executive. A man that worked in DC in the Bush administration and is a sitting US Senator is an outsider? believe me Cruz is a card carrying member of the uniparty. He just has bad manners so they don't like him.

Trump is the only candidate that will not only stop the invasion but reverse it so Trump is the only candidate I can vote vote. If Trump gets pushed out I either sit out the election or vote third party at the top of the ticket.

This election must be won by a candidate that is not hell-bent on flooding the country with illegals or the republic dies....it’s that simple.

I don't trust Cruz on immigration, Trump made him flip flop on it. I do trust the author of this Phyllis Schlafly.

Trump is 'last hope for America'.

Because Rubio’s campaign did it, that makes it ok for Cruz to do it?

I’ll bet that sort of argument will work just great if I get pulled over for some traffic violation....

This also plays right into Trump’s narrative about “these politicians”.

OTOH, I don’t think this is a “firing” level offense, nor was Cruz likely giving the directive. Dock a weeks’ pay and get it behind you, Ted...

I appreciate the fullness of your answer and am glad to hear you did not witness any false narrative arm-twisting of Carson caucus goers.

One more question if you don’t mind...were cell phones working in the building where you were and if so were folks using them during the caucus?

Yup, cell service was fine. I sent a pic of Cruz getting ot the stage to a friend, and others were following results on snapchat and such.

Had I heard about this while I was there (left about 9:15), I would have gone around and asked Carson supporters about it. After the event I looked for the 20-year-old that spoke on Ted’s behalf, wanted to tell him he did a good job. I hope I couldn’t find him because he got to go meet Ted... I did talk to the 17-year-old (18 by November) that spoke for Rubio - he did a good job also.

All the candidates had good speakers...except Trump. The guy was older, and when your candidate is all about personality, this guy’s wasn’t up to the task..There was one guy there that held up a Trump sign almost the whole time, and they had to ask him to be quiet a couple times. The Rubio contingent had more signs, but were very respectful of the other speakers.

And I didn’t sense any animosity when Ted came in, spoke for his alloted 7 minutes, and then left.

Don’t know that I think it’s true, but your husband’s theory is logical, especially since Carson did better than predicted but is still fussing. After New Hampshire, Carson could point out some other manufactured fuss, then do some sort of, “I’m just not cold-blooded enough to play politics” thing and bow out.

I wasn’t happy with Carson’s Ferguson visit but I could forgive him for not doing his homework on that one. Blaming Cruz for a situation Carson manufactured is something else again. I’ve always liked Carson as a person, but I was never comfortable with him as a President, because talk is cheap and I want to see how someone has actually voted in the past.

I agree, not sure I buy my husband’s idea but I don’t completely poo-poo it, either. Who knows.

I’ve never considered Carson as a first choice but I usually try and line out positions of candidates on my list.

My son is the one that is really crazy about Carson. I think how Carson interacted with people on his Facebook (every day? nearly every day?) is what my son and other young people really appreciated.

You're assuming Trump is going to do what he says he is. Personally, I don't trust him enough to stick to his word. He's gone back and forth between parties and issues for years. IOW, he does what helps make him popular at the moment.

CNN’s report went so far as to say, “this is not what you do if you want to be the President”. Now they act like an innocent bystander....there’s BS alright, but it’s not in the Cruz camp.

I believe you’re right, but I’m not going to stay home.

I can’t really blame people who do though.

We don’t have much to choose from.

At least it’s not as uninspiring as 2008 and 20012.

At least one person to vote FOR instead of just voting against the opposition.

“This whole carson thing wouldn’t be an issue if Cruz hadn’t been claiming that he was so pure. “

When? Where?

Is claiming to be a conservative who keeps his promises what you have a problem with? Because I personally WANT more of those. He said so like other politicians, but he also DID SO unlike the other politicians.

This is why EVERY conservative rating has Ted Cruz at the top.

If you want to malign him for being a true, pure conservative, maybe you would feel more comfortable over at the Democratic Underground. They really do not like “pure” conservatives there.

“If this was a mistake, as cruz said it was, and fired the offending parties in his campaign, all would be forgiven.”

You must be very young and naive. Apologizing is something that brings more attacks. He did apologize. Carson said he accepted. And then what came next? More attacks.

If Cruz fired someone, many would say “see here, he admits what a horrible thing he did”. They would demand more. Give up your delegates in Iowa. Crawl on all fours, and bark like a dog. Roll over. Now play dead. Now resign.

What Cruz said was the CNN news his campaign repeated should have been confirmed with the Carson camp and it was not. I have read the CNN tweets, what they actually said on TV (you can see it for yourself on Allen West’s website), and what Cruz’s team posted.

I don’t think it was dishonest. I think it was an honest mistake to post it. I don’t think Cruz gained anything by it. I don’t think Carson lost anything by it.

There are two kinds of people posting these negative posts on Cruz: those who pretend to be offended at something, and those who fall for the lies of those who pretend to be offended.

I think you are the latter. Don’t trust the Communist News Network, GOPe, or candidates desperate to score points when their campaigns are floundering.
