The fake Ben Carson controversy should end here and now

I know there are some of you who are willing to do what it takes to win but you want to make sure you do so with character and integrity. There's a line you don't want to cross. You are fine going up to that line and doing whatever you can that is within bounds but you don't want to cross that line and I am totally with you on that.

I am going to walk you through this faux outrage story regarding Ben Carson and Ted Cruz. I'm going to walk you through a timeline but before I do, I need to make sure you know what life is like at an Iowa Caucus. I'm on Team Cruz. I was one of the precinct captains in one of the larger precincts in Central Iowa...

Just a point of fact re “Unreported loans from Goldman-Sachs”:

This was a collateralized loan on the Cruz’s own investment funds. It was paid back. It was listed on the publicly available Senate reports, but missed on the FEC reports. Yes, a paperwork error, but not hidden.

A collateralized loan is nowhere near the level of a contribution, either.

Hind sight is 20-20. Pray tell who did you support during the Roberts confirmation? Many of us got duped.

I seem to recall many here singing Paul Ryan’s praises until he turned limp.

A caucus is very different than an election. For one, it’s run by the state party (GOP or Dem), not the state of Iowa itself.

Second, a caucus runs on persuasion and voluntary changing of positions, either because a candidate falls below a specific level of support (such as 15%) or because people who speak for each candidate have persuaded others to shift their caucus votes. That’s why it can take a couple of hours.

My apologies if you already knew this, but this is not like electioneering or other shenanigans at a polling place.

Of course it is ALL Cruz, right? Nothing about Mr. Rubio and his new pal Mr. Trump. Quite a bit of info on Rubio actually doing what is being SAID that Cruz did, when it is abundantly clear that the CNN clowns are steering this whole thing— and THEY are the liars.

Nothing untoward happened other than Carson’s campaign handled their news blast rather poorly, AND that Rubio ran with it to bump up his terrible Iowa numbers to “win” 3rd place— helping the trash job that Trump did on Carson for 3 solid months, and then spent nothing in Iowa, time or money.

That is the reality.

Trump lost to Cruz on the 30% of the working class vote, which Rubio was trying to steal. Cruz’s bluecollar voter appeal brought the Reagan democrats into the fold. As well, Cruz won the younger voters. This was Iowa. NH will unfold as well. Organization. Not volume of speaking and twitter blasts. The ethanol lobby attempt was and is disgusting Bob Dole corn lobby bullcrap— useless to our country and costly— but trump jumped on that, you know to appeal to the consortium of executives at ConAgra and ADM. People in Iowa knew and have known what this subsidy has done to them, and smaller farmers, and people who don’t live off federal subidies, not for crop or for real estate development eminent domain subsidy.

Not everyone in Iowa cares about the ethanol nonsense so those were the ones who voted for him. Again he was in Iowa for 2 years, spent million, had loads of volunteers and won with 4 percent and 1 delegate. Big whoop. I think it is hilarious how important Iowa is suddenly. I am sure when it was announced Romney wrongly was announced, it was written off as useless. It still is.

Even I knew that John Roberts wasn’t who he said he was. I was on Free Republic and I would bet that the Cruzies here are the ones with the love affair for John Roberts. I knew the guy was scummy.   So I actually have credibility for saying Cruz is not right for our country at all.

Are you sure you were against Roberts?

2005  I just think Roberts will make a great Supreme Court Justice.

2013   Give Justice Roberts an Obamacare 'Do-Over'…He is still a good justice. I mean he gets everything right but this. I am stunned how some of you get you britches in a bunch because he didn't go the way you wanted.

It may be splitting hairs, but why would Cruz report the loan on his Senate report and somehow forget to file the information on his FEC report? Could be a paperwork error, but it sounds awfully convenient.

Not reading too much into it, but it is just another “oops” from the Cruz campaign.

What is your source the other campaigns knew he was going to lay off staffers?

You can put as much lipstick on this pig you care to, but if the situation were reversed, you’d be screaming bloody murder. And one more thing...I don’t seem to remember the Cruz supporters saying Rubio and Cruz should drop out of the race when Carson was polling 20+ points and the two esteemed Senators were in single digits. The hypocrisy is amusing.

As for Trump...he’s a bully. Always has been, always will be. I don’t have any skin in this game as I honestly don’t know who I am going to support. But I do know Senator Cruz has proven to be just another Washington insider who is going to have to justify his actions. Carson...just a doctor and political neophyte that seems to be a nice guy getting terrible campaign advice.

Do you think a campaign in big trouble like Carson’s could keep that a secret. He gutted his own campaign and planned to do it prior to the vote in Iowa. Why do you think he has been off the trail all week during the most critical time in the campaign so far??????????

DO you think they didn’t have laundry service in the hotels he was staying in?

He has blown through 55M so far. HE has mismanaged his campaign, he may be keeping it active to see if he can get a sympathy bump by whining about the other boys being mean to him.

The situation has been reversed. Trump whose lawyers told hum Cruz was a NBC in Sept then came out with the Birther attack when Cruz first passed him in Iowa and he freaked out. Cruz didn’t whine he fought back.

This is the big leagues not little league or tee ball. Carson and HIS campaign screwed up and instead of Cowboying up he and trump are acting like 4 yr old sissies.

Thanks. Google's a powerful beast

Yep, took no time to find two examples of nap's lunacy and revisionist history.

With more keywords, you'd find lots more.

Breaking News. The press is reporting that Dr. Ben Carson is taking time off from the campaign trail after Iowa and making a big announcement next week. Please inform any Carson caucus goers of this news and urge them to caucus for Ted Cruz.”

The media says they never made the claim that Carson has a big announcement next week...That misinformation was provided by Cruz...It was a lie...

(Did it say Ben Carson was dropping out? No. That’s not what it said. It said exactly what these news reporters were saying.)

It obviously implied that Carson was dropping out because Cruz tried to encourage Carson's supporters to switch to Cruz...

Here's another lie by Cruz:

“CNN Reporting Ben Carson Will Stop Campaigning After Iowa

CNN is reporting that Ben Carson will stop campaigning after Iowa. Make sure to tell all of your peers at the caucus supporting Carson that they should coalesce around the true conservative who will be in the race for the long haul: TED CRUZ!”

Carson will stop campaigning...That's a serious suggestion that Carson is done...AND, to tell all of Carson's supporters to coalesce around Cruz, (since Carson is done)...

CNN never said Carson was done campaigning...CNN said Carson was taking a break from campaigning...That clearly means Carson was NOT done campaigning...Cruz lied...

*7:20 Steve King:

Carson looks like he is out. Iowans need to know before they vote. Most will go to Cruz, I hope.

That was NOT based on CNNs reporting...That was based on Cruz's perversion of the story...

Geez naps! You were even giving Roberts a full pass and singing his praises as late as 2013 - AFTER his Obamacare ruling. And you were claiming that Cruz was a rube for not seeing through Roberts back in 2005 - when he was a nominee!!

Dude, that isn't "misremembering" that's bald-faced lying. On purpose. Again and again on this issue.

You should hang your head.

Again, what’s your source? Carson was interviewed on Fox this afternoon and said the reorganization was planned. But that was never part of the CNN story nor did I see any mention prior to today. So what’s your source that says he planned to do it prior to Iowa?

Yes, Carson has gone through a lot of money. But as reported earlier, he has one of the highest spend to donation ratio of all the candidates. And I hate to use Bill O’Reilly as a source, but on his Talking Points memo last night, even he said Carson had events scheduled in New Hampshire prior to this dust-up in Iowa and he (Carson) was only in Florida for a day.

I will be the first to admit that Carson has managed to shoot himself in the foot multiple times and it appears he doesn’t have the advisers he needs to mount a national campaign, but this doesn’t address the issue at hand. Did the Cruz campaign purposely lie Monday night in order to pick off votes? It certainly seems like they were quick to put the innuendo out that Carson was through, but can you show me ONE tweet from any Cruz campaign official that says the information was wrong? You can’t have it both ways. The CNN reporter who “broke” the story and who people like Steve King say were the reason they tweeted the information, also tweeted out that Carson was not dropping out. So if they saw one tweet, how come they didn’t see the other?

Lastly, the birther issue is a non-issue and you know it. Trump can call Cruz a Canadian anchor baby all he wants but he is just throwing red meat to his supporters. Most know Cruz is eligible for the presidency, so I’m afraid your analogy is a straw-man argument.

Look, politics IS a rough game and I understand everyone is jockeying for an edge, but where I have a problem is Cruz portrays himself as a Washington outsider who is a man of principal and character. I’m afraid this shows he’s neither.

Well What the hell was Carson going to say? that he was planning to suspend the campaign?

His “reorganization” was gutting his campaign staff when he needs to be fully staffed to compete on Super Tuesday in 1)+ states.

He still hasn’t returned to NH and won’t be in NH until Saturday for the debate.

Taking off the week before a critical primary? Seriously? Gimme a break.

The opportunity for others to exploit his campaign’s problems are HIS FAULT. If this was planned in advanced (not going to NH to take a brief vacation. Why not announce it earlier rather than bolt the state and drop your campaign for a week within hours of the start of the Caucus.

People are working hard and are playing to win. If your campaign is that poorly run it speaks poorly of your ability to lead. HE left others and opening by being stupid and they ran with it.

When we get to the general election you are damn right a want a tough campaign that will take advantage of every opening and exploit every self inflicted wound.

Did you ever hear of Reagan;s campaign manager Lee Atwater? You should look him up he makes Cruz’s guys look like Choirboys.

You think the Chicoms Norks ISIS or Russkies will play nice?

I am especially disappointed by Carson’s reaction to HIS F’up.
