Sanders: 'I Believe in Efficient Government'
National Review ^ | February 11, 2016 | Tom S. Elliott

Posted on 02/12/2016 12:29:56 AM PST by Cincinatus' Wife

Bernie Sanders said in tonight's Democratic debate that as a senator, he's well aware there is "an enormous amount of waste and inefficiency and bureaucracy throughout government." Asked if there are any areas of government he would like to reduce, Sanders said, "I believe in government, but I believe in efficient government, not wasteful government."

Here's the exchange:

WOODRUFF: Welcome back to the Democratic presidential debate. Before we return to our questions, we have a follow-up question from our Facebook group. And it is to Senator Sanders. Senator, it comes from Bill Corefield, he's a 55-year-old musician from Troy, Ohio. He asks, "Are there any areas of government you'd like to reduce?'

SANDERS: I'm in the United States Senate. And anyone who doesn't think there is an enormous amount of waste and inefficiency and bureaucracy throughout government would be very, very mistaken. I believe in government, but I believe in efficient government, not wasteful government.

Actually, I have been in too many faculty cocktail parties where the hard leftist “joke” about how nice it would be to place conservatives in concentration camps or re-education centers to think it is nonsense

The left is evil.

Fascism is Left Wing.

The only difference between Fascism and Communism is in who formally owns the means of production.

In Communism, the govt owns them.

In Fascism, the govt doesn’t formally own them, but completely controls them through punitive regulation.

Both systems implicitly require massive, unbridled Government. They are both totalitarian left-wing systems.

The Nazis had a very efficient government.

I was thinking the same thing.

Maybe Bernie just needs a Strelnikov to help whip things into shape. I hear Obama and Ayers and General Lynch will all be available next year.

"Sanders: 'I Believe in Efficient Government' "

The socialist path to efficiency is through elimination of nonessential consumers. It's another variation on the "cooking the books" theme.

Trump is for "The Great Man" politics, with himself as Great Man - beyond ideology, beyond principle."

"Great"point .... it is axiomatic, that a truly Great Man cannot be held to our puny standards and cannot be brought to book by his lessers. They have no moral claim on him; they have no right. Nietzsche would love it.

Actually conservatism based on the US Constitution is not properly on any scale with socialism, monarchy, theocracy etc - it is a totally separate political evolution, but stands outside of those other convoluted and self-consuming political philosophies.

I too attended a party after Obama was elected and heard FSU faculty -joking- about sending Republicans (which they consider conservatives) for reeducation. The topper was, -Reeducation, Hell! Gas them all!- They all burst into laughter and I left.

No wonder Trump and Sanders appeal to a similar demographic

What?????....Trump will put in something TERRIFIC!!! It will be the best thing the world has ever seen....he'll hire the BEST!!! people. But don't ask for details now....he doesn't have any. Just trust Trump...put your faith in him....he'll be TERRIFIC!!!....why?....because he said he would be. That's good enough for me.

Trump's empty promises are much more comforting than Bernie's promises of a socialist utopia....Why???....Because the Donald is going to hire TERRIFIC!!! people. Now, I ask you, who can turn down a great program like that? (smirk)

The term "republicanism" is derived from the term "republic", but the two words have different meanings. A "republic" is a form of government (one without a hereditary ruling class); "republicanism" refers to the values of the citizens in a republic......The modern Republican Party has evolved such that its ideological foundation is no longer a pure republicanism so much as a conservatism that incorporates republican ideals."...
