Weekly Standard ^ | February 12, 2016 | JEFFREY H. ANDERSON

Among the two candidates whose results look at all like those of an eventual GOP presidential nominee, polling suggests that Ted Cruz would do significantly better than Donald Trump in the general election. According to the Real Clear Politics average of recent polls, Cruz would fare 5 points better versus Hillary Clinton than Trump would.

Polling has consistently shown Cruz to have an advantage over Trump in this regard: Fox News found that Cruz would fare 4 points better than Trump, beating Clinton by 7 points (50 to 43 percent) to Trump's 3 (47 to 44 percent). NBC News and the Wall Street Journal found that Cruz would fare 6 points better than Trump, losing to Clinton by 4 points (49 to 45 percent) to Trump's 10 (51 to 41 percent). And Quinnipiac found that Cruz would fare 5 points better than Trump, tying Clinton (at 45 percent apiece) while Trump would lose by 5 points (46 to 41 percent).

In all, RCP's average finds that Cruz would beat Clinton by 1 point (47 to 46 percent), while Trump would lose by 4 points (47 to 43 percent)...

“Ted is getting CRUSHED by conservatives and evangelicals in SC.”

Thankfully, southerners have great BS meters and can see through Cruz when he goes Gantry.

Is Trump’s 3 point lead there beyond the margin of voter fraud? Cruz’s larger lead probably is.

No way Hillary beats anyone without the youth vote and she isn’t getting it.

Keep telling yourself that.
A guy who has higher negatives than even Walter Mondale, who was lost in 49 states and won only one state, is simply not going to win a general election. Currently even Bernie Sanders the communist is beating Trump at RCP.
How is a nasty guy like Trump who abuses everybody with obscene words, going to reduce his sky high unfavorables?

Chuckle!
You are the one backing a guy that regularly screwed other people’s wives and then wrote books boasting about, has no morals or scruples whatsoever, doesn’t actually stand for anything and has engaged in corrupt business practices for decades. How do you even live with yourself?

Yeah, I’ve had that sinking feeling for quite some time too. Orwell told us that the Establishment would coordinate it’s own opposition. Trump for sure; Cruz remains a maybe. Establishment opposition to him has seemed too perfect. A more credible threat to the Establishment is the one it ignores most.

MSM = SSM. Soviet-Style Media. Lauds and covers for its masters. Endlessly repeats lies. Ignores true victims. Helps bury real threats.

The negative rating is staggering and it’s easy to understand. Trump has said and done things that could offend Christians, women and hispanics that other candidates simply haven’t done. I don’t see how he could turn that around when the Dummycraps will be replaying and focusing on every offensive statement he’s ever made.

Ted Cruz is as sincere, authentic and stalwart a conservative as we’ve seen in politics in our lifetime.

Trump will trounce Hillary!

No one wants Hillary, not even Democrats.

Trump doesn't abuse anyone who doesn't attack him first.

The only Republican the Left fears is Trump.

These people have no sense of themselves. Margaret Thatcher, told her voice was shrill, went to drama teachers to learn how to place her voice. But do you think these two egomaniacs will bother? No way! If Clinton had cared, she would have done something about that awful voice 25 years ago. I’m betting no one will vote for Cruz in a general after listening to that nasal whine for months on end.

Well, you’re the evangelical Christian. What do you do when someone doesn’t do those things anymore?

You trash him in public for decades right?

He who is guiltless...

Yep. About the only media mention I heard about Gilmore was Mark Levin who said (IIRC) “What’s with Gilmore? What did he get? Three votes in New Hampshire? I don’t get it. He was a good governor, but now he’s an embarrassment.’

And Levin has been well rewarded by showbiz. Yesterday he announced the contract for his show has been extended to 2025. http://www.breitbart.com/big-journalism/2016/02/12/exclusive-levin-on-lifetime-radio-deal-next-decade-will-determine-fate-of-the-nation/

Orwell nailed it didn’t he?

Do you have a list of the number of FReepers who get it? I fear, looking at this thread and all the rest, that the list can’t be long. Whatever, keep it to yourself.

Just for fun....I wonder how Trump would do against Bloomberg if he gets in?......He knows how the Donald plays his game in Business, which he's simply carrying over into the political arena.

No question Cruz could do well against Hillary....everybody knows that. Trump against Hillary would be a catastrophe for him.....she's got the dirt on Trump as well. And since that's all Trump's got he'll attempt to fling it of course....that's what he is and does.

......”Trump doesn’t ‘ABUSE’ anyone who doesn’t attack him first.....The only Republican the Left FEARS is Trump.”.....

Interesting choice of words you used to define Trump.... He’s Abusive and Incites Fear...... Sounds more like A Mobster Hitman or Despot of the third world order then Presidential Material for the United States of America.

But then I consider that it’s not unusual for some of Trumps fans to desire a Hitman who would “hit back” in revenge when they cannot against those they hate for taking from them what they believe they deserved and didn’t get.

Everytime Trump “hits” someone they rejoice and celebrate as if they’re own hand stretched across the Internet and globbered someone who did them wrong. That’s what many of Trump followers ‘feel’ after so long not having their voice heard.....It’s payback time and Trumps the one they’re living that revenge through.

You sidestepped my question, but that’s alright. I know you can’t answer it anyway. To do so would mean letting go of all the false notions that are holding your point of view together.

It’s really ok. Reality will march on without you.

I just stumbled upon this guy’s ~90 minute youtube fisking Ted Cruz.

He spends time on one issue after another and it gets to be a bit much to listen to, so it’s nice that he bullet points his observations along the way.

This link is to one such https://youtu.be/xtL41Pr2d5s?t=4246 wherein he discusses Cruz’s support for John Roberts in 2005 and his later complaint. Included is Cruz admitting finally one regret. For a change of pace anyway. Also included was Cruz categorically stating that as Prez he’d only appoint strong conservative judges because he would KNOW them. Unfortunately that was his same argument for Bush’s appointment of Roberts. He’s got such a good track record to judge the personal integrity of judges?

Since you are much like this guy in collecting facts, I thought it might be a good place for adding to what you already know or suspect. Take or leave it, here it is for you to consider.

OTOH, I feel a bit uneasy about it. While he may be an honest broker, there is so much of it that it sounds too much like the stuff Critical Theorists engage in. Maybe what he’s after in the long run is peddling despair.
