Did American Corporations Create and Sustain Communism in the Soviet Union?

Posted on 02/12/2016 9:39:39 AM PST by pinochet

There are some undeniable facts about America's history with communism that make many "mainstream" conservatives uncomfortable. These troubling facts fall into a category that I call "Facts About Communism that Your Favorite Conservative Columnist Did not Tell You About".

1. Karl Marx was the European correspondent for America's largest circulation newspaper, "The New York Daily Tribune", from 1852 to 1863. The paper was the New York Times of its day, and the paper carried Marx's articles for an amazing 11 years, which was long enough for his ideas to gain influence. Marx's articles were very popular among liberal elites in New York and other parts of America. It goes without saying that his articles covered events in European history with a Marxist bias, and a large segment of the American elite saw European history from a Marxist perspective without being aware of Marx's ideological biases.

2. In the late 1800s, Karl Marx had more followers in America than he had in Russia, because Tsarist Russia practiced censorship which limited access to Marx's writings.

3. At the time that the 1917 Bolshevik Revolution began, Leon Trotsky, the founder of the Red Army, was living in New York City at the invitation of his large number of American supporters. Trosky's residential address was: 1522 Vyse Avenue in The Bronx. Trotsky wrote articles for two major publications while he was in New York.

4. One of the senior Tsarist Generals who fought against the Bolsheviks, Arsene de Goulevitch, wrote a book saying that wealthy banks from Wall Street financed the Communist Revolution in Russia.

5. From the very beginning, the Soviet Union was supported by massive transfers of technology from major American corporations such as Ford Motor company, etc.

6. From 1921-1930, a prominent and respected American industrialist, Armand Hammer, lived in the Soviet Union helping the Soviets to set up successful industries. This did not diminish the esteem with which Hammer was held by the American elite. Al Gore Sr. was an employee of Hammer, and Hammer encouraged Al Gore Jr. to run for President in 1988. Hammer was also a generous donor to the Republican Party.

7. Franklin Roosevelt admired Josef Stalin, whom he affectionately called "Uncle Joe". A recent book by the historian, Susan Butler, claims that FDR had a closer relationship with Josef Stalin than he had with Winston Churchill:

http://www.csmonitor.com/Books/Book-Reviews/2015/0305/Roosevelt-and-Stalin-details-the-surprisingly-warm-relationship-of-an-unlikely-duo

8. The most shocking fact of all. On 5 December 1949, an American military officer, Major George Racey Jordan, testified that FDR's right-hand man, Harry Hopkins, transferred nuclear materials to the Soviet Union. Major Jordan was in charge of handling the lend-lease operations, which transferred American military equipment to the Soviet Union.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Racey_Jordan

9. Massive transfers of American technology to the Soviet Union by American corporations continued after World War Two. American technology helped the Soviets to put Sputnik into space. The US prevented the Soviet Union from suffering mass starvation, by transferring massive amounts of grain under the so-called grain credits. It was only under Reagan that these massive technology transfers came to an end. But the farming lobby ensured that the grain credits, where the Soviets were fed by American farmers, continued to operate.

These undeniable facts make "mainstream" American conservatives uncomfortable. They will not invite you to cocktail parties when you talk about such things. They will call you a Kook, despite the fact that the listed facts are undeniable.

One more thing. Josef Stalin got to know about America’s atomic bomb project before FDR’s Vice-President, Harry Truman, did. This is the craziest part of the FDR Presidency. FDR was running America like it was a banana republic.

Another thing. FDR insisted that his right-hand man, Harry Hopkins, live in the White House until 1943. Hopkins only moved out at the insistence of his wife.

Most everyone educated knows there were communists in the US before WWII.

The title is misleading.

I’m far more concerned with the communists leading this country right now.

I thought all this was pretty well known. The conservatives I’ve talked about it to aren’t generally surprised by this kind of thing. Fifth column “progressives” in America always propped the Soviet regime.

The progressives are who is actually to blame, not the nebulous mass of “corporations” that the author is trying to pin it on.

I have seen a lot of undeniable facts become proven false. I do not know the truth of these items but I suspect they are exagerated.

So the only difference between US Corporation in the early 20th transferring tech to Russia and B Clinton transferring tech to China is that Clinton did it in the open. Nor does any one seem to mind the tech transfer to Iran under 0bama. And then they elected B Clinton’s erstwhile wife as POTUS ... sic transit USA.

Had it survived it would have been a great source of cheap labor.

“FDR was running America like it was a banana republic.”

So FDR is 0bama’s secret political role model after all.

“The Capitalists would gladly sell the rope from which they are to be hung.”

I believe it was Mao that said that.

“The Capitalist will sell you the rope you hang him with.”

No, not surprising at all and all of these points are well known.

As is the collusion US big business had with the Nazis. Like IBM enabling the holocaust.

Stupid person asking a stupid question. Communism was never "sustained" in the USSR, that's why it fell. Cite one example how Communism was "Sustained". Russia is a thugocracy and has been since the royals. try again!

I was under the impression that American corporations were directly responsible for EVERYTHING bad that happens in the world.

And White people, too.

I know it because I read it in the news.

No and No (to the title questions).

Ford setup up an auto plant in early 30s which made the Gaz line of trucks and cars. The American workers who stayed behind after the plant was completed were liquidated by Stalin in the Great Terror. The Russians made unlicensed copies of the Fords at other plants and ignored all production and licensing agreements.

“The progressives are who is actually to blame ...” want conservatives to take the fall hoping most people will be convinced that only progressives (code for Communist) can save them from the evil Communists in this election cycle.

There is noting new here at all - just a rehash and an attempt at blame shifting. It was the intelligentsia of the 30s and 40s who were in love with the idealism of the Russian Communist revolution, until certain things began to leak out ...

The purges: which many intelligentsia excused as something like being fired, but were more like a bullet in the back of the head ... millions of times. As more and more came out, the bloom fell off the Communist rose, and, except for the hard core, the Party was abandoned in the US, but whose members went underground and began the march to become the present day Democrat party.

Don;t try telling a millennial all this their precious snowflake heads will explode and you’ll be accused of beginning a Trotskite purge.

The author is right about the corporations.

“Corporatism” (aka Crony Capitalism) is a variation of Marxism where the government controls the economy while the means of production and delivery remains in private hands. The government favors a select elite (big corporations) and that elite gleefully does what it’s told so long as it’s able to maintain it’s lifestyle and high standard of living.

It goes without saying

"What is it, Number One?"

the American elite

"Well, sir, it looks like incoming manipulation."

wealthy banks from Wall Street

"It's from the Ferengi ship Kookamonga. Tell 'em to get a life."

Exaggerated how? Are you saying Karl Marx wasn't the Tribune's correspondent for 11 years? Or that Harry Hopkins only lived in the White House until 1942, not '43? Or that Armand Hammer wasn't a communist stooge and enabler his entire life, and didn't supply the Soviet Union with the goods and services that they used to brutalize their people and many others for decades? Exaggerated? If anything, they are underdone.
