Last Friday when posting to a thread about Donald Trump, I equated his supporters to National Socialists. Regardless of the rising heat of this election cycle that was rude, crude, and socially unacceptable. My comment resulted in a week suspension of my account for trolling, the first such action taken in over twelve years of my being a member of Free Republic. I am offering no excuse, just an apology to anyone who was offended. I am posting this here in "News/Activism" because it is where my original offensive comment was made. Regards, WLee. Yah, this is a mighty serious election and emotions are running at fever pitch. However, we are American Patriots first and foremost and we all want the same thing, which is to save this sinking ship, the USS America. We only have different views on how to do it. I likewise accept your apology.

Apology accepted. Nazi comparisons only serve to trivialize the evil of Nazism—the only exception being Islamo-Nazis who are just as evil, and historically related.
Now if the Trumpbot that called all Cruz supporters “evil and immoral” would issue a similar apology we might actually get somewhere.
What are you talking about? Anne Frank had one sister and no other sisters, step or otherwise. Mr. Frank remarried and obviously more children came into that marriage besides the ones he had with his second wife.
And it’s disgusting and weird in the extreme that a Holocaust survivor would compare an American politician to a Nazi.

As for myself, I accept your apology. This campaign has seen very excited supporters for their candidate.
W.Lee I heard on CNN regards to exit polling about 40% of those polled said Trump ran a very nasty campaign. 32% said Cruz ran a very nasty campaign. Sounds like the supporters of each others campaigns were giving the results.
Hey, W.Lee, remember, politics is more fun than soccer. Also, Nazi actually breaks down to National Socialist Workers Party NSADP? If I remember correctly. Nazi’s were socialists, as well as the Soviets...
I am waiting for Trump, ( in your case Cruz), to ask Bernie Sanders if he is a National Socialist or International Socialist I would pay good money to see that exchange.

And you are right for all people here. We have our disagreements here and yeah it can get heated.
But never forget that 365 days ago we were, and are, still part of the same community here, and when the counting is done, we shake hands and toss peanuts at the Democrats to relieve the stress.
I think it is the most errant form of political correctness to eliminate comparison to entire modes of behaviour best explained by historical incidents or personages just because those personages or incidents are unpopular.
We strip ourselves of the ability to learn from history if we fail to compare current events with the past, and to reduce the discussion by censoring the most horrible portions of human history from speech only guarantees that those events will be repeated.
With that in mind, the similarities and differences should be able to be freely noted and that message examined without summary judgement of the messenger.
