Rubio: 'You Don’t Win The Nomination By How Many States You Win' (VIDEO)
Talking Points ^

Posted on 02/24/2016 9:56:08 AM PST by TigerClaws

Following another second-place finish in the Nevada GOP caucus, Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) argued Wednesday that candidates don't win presidential primaries simply by winning individual states.

When asked about his loss to Donald Trump in the Nevada caucus on Tuesday on "Fox and Friends," Rubio noted that "this is an unusual election."

"And right now, what you have is a situation where Donald—the majority of the Republican electorate, the majority of Republican voters in this country do not want Donald Trump to be the nominee," Rubio said.

He said that the anti-Trump voters are "divided up" among the remaining candidates. ADVERTISING

"Until there’s some kind of consolidation here, you’re not going to have a clear alternative to Donald Trump, and the argument we’ve made is, I’m as conservative as anyone in this race, but I’m the conservative that can unify the Republican Party," Rubio said.

Co-host Ashley Earhardt asked Rubio if he needs to start winning primaries in order to win the nomination.

"You don’t win the nomination by how many states you win," Rubio responded before adding that he will have to win some winner-take-all states in March.

Earhardt then asked Rubio which states specifically he could win.

"Well, we feel great in every one of those states. We’re going to pick up delegates in all of them," he said, adding that he doesn't want to offer specific predictions.

Rubio’s convoluted logic misses the simple fact that just because someone is your first choice doesn’t mean you won’t vote for someone else if your first choice drops out of the race.

When Jeb dropped out polling figures indicated that his supporters were close to evenly split among the three top tier candidates, so that added to Trump’s numbers.

In a two person race Trump probably would get 60%+ imho.

"And right now, what you have is a situation where Donald - the majority of the Republican electorate, the majority of Republican voters in this country do not want Donald Trump to be the nominee," Rubio said.

How about:

"And right now, what you have is a situation where Marco - the majority of the Republican electorate, the majority of Republican voters in this country do not want Marco Rubio to be the nominee," Rubio said.

Part of the rules changes done to nominate Yeb!, the funny thing is the rules changes and calendar set up for Yeb! is going to end up benefitting Trump.

No Marco, you win by closing your eyes, clicking your heels together, and saying “There’s no place like the White House”.

Sad.

An mathematician, an engineer and a politician are all asked, “What is 2+2?”

The mathematician says, “4”.
The engineer says, “4”.
The politician looks around, leans over and under his breath says, “How much do you want it to be?”

They fail to realize stopping Trump does not end their fight for survival. If not Trump, it will be someone else 4-8 years from now.

Now Cruz said in SC that he was essentially tied for second or something like that. Does that mean that Rubio is essentially tied for third?

Rubio is definitely not a natural born US citizen. neither of his parents were citizens at the time of his birth, and i’m not voting for an anchor baby for president.

why in recent years, in the small pool of candidates that run for this office, have we had so many candidates with dubious claims on natural born citizenship??? it’s strange when you think about it. McCain, Obama, Cruz, Rubio,...

They’re thinking about a brokered convention but in the same way they thought about pushing jeb. And by that time the rejection will be so much greater than with jeb

Should this go to a brokered convention Rubio may well be right. Delegates won in primaries are only obligated to vote for the winning candidate on the first vote. After that everything can be manipulated by the GOPes. At one time I thought that if Cruz saw he couldn’t win he would put his support behind Trump (with some sort of carrot attached) so that a GOPe wouldn’t win. After all the personal attacks I’m not sure that is possible any more.
