Trump [38], Kasich [35] in Tight Ohio Race (Winner-Takes-All)
Public Policy Polling ^ | March 7, 2016 | Staff

Posted on 03/07/2016 1:37:31 PM PST by C19fan

PPP's newest Ohio poll finds a very close race on the Republican side- with Donald Trump slightly ahead but perhaps more reasons within the numbers to think that John Kasich will end up winning the state.

Trump leads with 38% to 35% for Kasich, 15% for Ted Cruz, and just 5% for Marco Rubio. The race is pretty fluid though, with only 69% of voters saying they're committed to their current choice, and 31% saying they might change their minds between now and next Tuesday.

If voters do change their minds- especially supporters of Cruz and Rubio who appear to have little chance of being competitive in the state- Kasich is likely to be the beneficiary. Kasich leads Trump 55/40 if voters had to choose just between the two of them. Rubio voters move to Kasich 75/16 over Trump, Cruz voters do so 69/25, and undecideds would pick him 54/11 if Kasich and Trump ended up being the two candidates they chose between. Kasich is also by far the most broadly popular of the candidates in Ohio with a 70/22 favorability rating- only Trump at 48/44 is also on positive ground among the remaining candidates. If more strategic voting happens in the next week, Kasich is likely to be the beneficiary.

Look at the dates on those polls. Only two this year, so no real trend here other than the race has tightened since February. Kasich will win Ohio, no real doubt there.

“Love Trump but he does have to tone down the attacks”.

Rubio and Cruz are the two on the attack not Trump. All the man does is try and defend himself from a media that despises him to the other three candidates throwing everything but the kitchen sink at him. How he’s kept from busting Rubio or Cruz in the mouth is beyond me. He’s a better man than I am. I couldn’t handle two lowlife POSs lying like they do, without coming completely unglued.

Closer than I’d like, but I knew Kasich was no cinch for Ohio.

I saw you write "Erick"and mentally filled in "Erick Erickson" of RedState and internally barfed.

Glad to know I actually misread...

Kasich, another compassionate conservative bleeding heart liberal type who claims he can work with Democrats, hard to believe people want this formula which hasn't got conservatives anywhere. Are people on our side this disconnected from reality?

Yea, Cruz couldn’t take 10% of what trump is being hammered with.

What is Trump being hammered with (besides his own words)?

Yeah sure that’s why they all want trump gone so st. Cruz can be crowned with the weakest win of state slate in history. Cruz overall is weak winning little attended caucus’ and 2 states and his homestate. That really isn’t impressive. The GOPe is dumb to back Cruz.

I know you like to say that but if you see who his support is. It GOPe. Latest the Bush’s....very GOPe. No biggie. Cruz killed his chances tonight anyway. Trump is the nomination 100 percent. Cruz can’t have two bad Tuesday’s in a row and next Tuesday won’t be pretty for him.

Rubio is still in the race. Think, man. The GOPe candidate is still working to take votes away from Cruz.
