Lobbyists in Washington say they are being flooded with questions and concerns from foreign governments about the rise of Donald Trump.
Officials around the globe are closely following the U.S. presidential race, to the point where some have asked their American lobbyists to explain, in great detail, what a contested GOP convention would look like.
The questions about Trump are almost all-consuming, said Richard Mintz, the managing director of Washington-based firm The Harbour Group, whose client list includes the governments of Georgia and the United Arab Emirates.
After a recent trip to London, Abu Dhabi and Beijing, its fair to say that all anyone wants to talk about is the U.S. presidential election, Mintz added. People are confused and perplexed.
The Hill conducted interviews with more than a half-dozen lobbyists, many of whom said they are grappling with how to explain Trump and his unusual foreign policy views to clients who have a lot riding on their relationship with the United States.
Were in uncharted territory here, said one lobbyist with foreign government clients who asked not to be identified.
The questions coming from the international community are not different than the things, categorically, were asking ourselves, said Nathan Daschle, the president and chief operating officer of the Daschle Group, a firm run by his father, former Sen. Tom Daschle (D-S.D.).
Theres an added level of bafflement because this is not the United States that theyve been living with for so long, Daschle said. This is not the image the United States has been projecting.
The questions about Trump often concern his foreign policy positions.

Sure, we should let America’s enemies choose our president. What a great idea. (/sarc)

Good, all the old ways of palm greasing and largesse will be thrown asunder. It will be a different world.
Those who have been violating the United States of America and have made careers out of doing so, are all insanely-upset.
They are all crawling out of the woodwork. Including many inside this country.
[I am so sick of the New World order types on this forum. You can tell theyve become unhinged. None of these guys ever posted this level of invective against Obama. The NWO Freepers are either stupid, uniformed, or they have a vested interest in ripping America off.]
Correct. I noted much of this when there was a push at how all those who came illegal across the Southern Border voted “conservative”. Forget the 75% liberal voting record.
There was lots of this nonsense leading up to the 2012 election.
The Eastern Europeans also know what Putin is.
The sad thing is, if the EU keeps insisting that “Central” Europe take in their share of Muslim refugees, or else, it may leave them no choice but to run into the arms of Putin.
yes.
It’s amazing how quickly the American offspring forget their families’ past.
i’m pretty sure Cubans under 30 are now more dem and republican. that was quick.
Not surprising when half the nation or more has these concerns as well....I will go so far as saying even Trump has concerns as I don't think he intended to do more than add to his resume that he ran and promote his brand further by doing so.
He really has no clue at all “how” he's going to do a Presidency....except for scurrying around trying hard to find endorsements now and people who can do the work he's unequipped to do...if he wins. I also think he thought he could just walk away from this in time...now he's finding he cannot....I think he's going to end sabotaging his election or handing it over to another before this is said and done. ....Until then he'll keep playing the reality role he's found himself in and trust something will work that will get him out of this he's gotten himself way over head in.
I travel often to Europe. Every last one of them is worried about Trump.
They’re always worried about a Republican winning.
They’re afraid he’s going to cut off the $$$$$ spigot.

I love good news.
They do like Obama and I can see why in a way. That said you would think they would like a strong America.

One of the policies of the Cold War was to basically bribe countries so they would be on the USA's side against the Soviets. When the Cold War ended the policy of bribing foreign nations did not and continues.
Our Foreign aid is and has always been bribe money out of the necessities of the Cold War. We proved that communism failed so there is no reason to try and bribe nations to not side with a non existent threat anymore.
The National Border Patrol Council, representing the nation's 16,500 border patrol agents made an historical first today by endorsing a presidential candidate during the presidential primaries:

The National Border Patrol Council is the official organization representing our nations Border Patrol Agents. We represent 16,500 agents who selflessly serve this country in an environment where our own political leaders try to keep us from doing our jobs.
The NBPC has had a longstanding practice of not endorsing presidential candidates in the primaries. We will not, however, shy away from voicing our opinions as it pertains to border security and the men and women of the United States Border Patrol. As such, we are breaking with our past practice and giving our first-ever endorsement in a presidential primary. We think it is that important: if we do not secure our borders, American communities will continue to suffer at the hands of gangs, cartels and violent criminals preying on the innocent. The lives and security of the American people are at stake, and the National Border Patrol Council will not sit on the sidelines.
As an organization we expect our elected officials to aggressively pursue the interests of the country. America has already tried a young, articulate freshman senator who never created a job as an attorney and under whose watch criminal cartels have been given the freest border reign ever known.
Unlike his opponents, Donald Trump is not a career politician, he is an outsider who has created thousands of jobs, pledged to bring about aggressive pro-American change, and who is completely independent of special interests. We dont need a person who has the perfect Washington-approved tone, and certainly NOT another establishment politician in the W.H. Indeed, the fact that people are more upset about Mr. Trumps tone than about the destruction wrought by open borders tells us everything we need to know about the corruption in Washington.
We need a person in the White House who doesnt fear the media, who doesnt embrace political correctness, who doesnt need the money, who is familiar with success, who wont bow to foreign dictators, who is pro-military and values law enforcement, and who is angry for America and NOT subservient to the interests of other nations. Donald Trump is such a man.
Mr. Trump is as bold and outspoken as other world leaders who put their countrys interests ahead of all else. Americans deserve to benefit for once instead of always paying and apologizing. Our current political establishment has bled this country dry, sees their power evaporating, and isnt listening to voters who do all the heavy lifting. Trump is opposed by the established powers specifically because they know he is the only candidate who actually threatens the established powers that have betrayed this country.
You can judge a man by his opponents: all the people responsible for the problems plaguing America today are opposing Mr. Trump. It is those without political power the workers, the law enforcement officers, the everyday families and community members who are supporting Mr. Trump.
Mr. Trump will take on special interests and embrace the ideas of rank-and-file Border Patrol agents rather than listening to the management yes-men who say whatever they are programmed to say. This is a refreshing change that we have not seen before and may never see again.
Mr. Trump is correct when he says immigration wouldnt be at the forefront of this presidential campaign if months ago he hadnt made some bold and necessary statements. And when the withering media storm ensued he did not back down one iota. That tells you the measure of a man. When the so-called experts said he was too brash and outspoken, and that he would fade away, they were proven wrong. We are confident they will be proven wrong again in November when he becomes President of the United States.
There is no greater physical or economic threat to Americans today than our open border. And there is no greater political threat than the control of Washington by special interests. In view of these threats, the National Border Patrol Council endorses Donald J. Trump for President and asks the American people to support Mr. Trump in his mission to finally secure the border of the United States of America, before it is too late.
Sincerely,
Brandon Judd
President
National Border Patrol Council
“He really has no clue at all how he’s going to do a Presidency”
That’s not true at all. Matter of fact, any American man of good faith and average intelligence could do better than any candidate either party has put up since Reagan.
Of course it’s true....and Trump knows it all to well. They’re all trying to help him find a way out...and he wants out.
