Lewandowski Case Shows How Donald Trump Is Gaslighting America
The Federalist ^ | March 30, 2016 | David Marcus

Posted on 03/30/2016 6:37:06 PM PDT by gwjack

The term “gaslighting” comes to us from a play called “Gas Light,” written in 1938 by British playwright Patrick Hamilton. The play focuses on an abusive husband in the 1880s who convinces his wife that she is going crazy. One of his methods is lowering the gaslights and telling her it hasn’t gotten any darker. It’s all in her imagination.

Donald Trump has been playing this game on the American people, or at least a meaningful portion of it, for five months now. Telling us that Trump University was a success. Telling us that he only worked with the mafia because everyone in his business had to. Telling us that his campaign manager Corey Lewandoski never touched Breitbart reporter Michelle Fields. Then telling us so what if he touched her.

Marcus grants Trump the skills the GOP-e has been practicing and refining for decades.

You’re a dick, Marcus.

“There was no touching.”
If you don’t touch anyone in a crowd like that, you’re a poltergeist.
He put his body between that obnoxious, pushy, relentless Babwa Wawa wannabe Fields and her victim, Trump.
There was no battery.

This is simply a politically motivated abuse of the Justice system.

There is nothing there and Hillary Clinton's team couldn't get arrested robbing a bank<

There is nothing on that Video - and if that was the worst thing that happened to that attention starved woman in her life, as she said, then Privlege should be part of the discussion. I get jostled more than that waiting in line at an Oriole's game.

Gas lighting was pretty useful until electric came in.

Some don't see it - and some do.

It would appear that many have been gaslighted by the anti-Trump crowds/throngs/armies and are seeing things a bit skewed.

What's your take on Trump's comment that if abortion were to become illegal, then women who get them should face some sort of punishment? Then, what's your take on Cruz trying to leverage this by pandering to the abortion crowd?

Answering those questions may let you know whether you've been "gaslighted" away from your conservative values/principles like so many pthers seem to have been...

Those who are backing this loony woman ought to research her history of making phony claims against lots of people that she has either withdrawn or been turned away on. The DA in PBC is already distancing himself from this mess because he doesn’t want to be another Mike Nifong the guy who destroyed himself with phony charges against the Duke lacrosse team.

I still can’t get my arms around the author’s statement that the Bush family is Conservative.

I think they fall into the category of go along to get along conservatives and lack a clear idea of what they will stand for and what they don't care about. While I still think our invasion of Iraq was the correct decision, Bush had to make too many deals in order to get congressional authorization and then executed the war poorly. On those 2 points, I am willing to see an argument that we should not have invaded.

America is being taken for a ride, as you write. Trump exposes much of what is wrong. But, I’m just not sure he is the one to right the ship.

I in general think the only one who can right the ship is Jesus. However, looking at the current crop of Christian leaders (including in my own Church), far too many worry more about ideological purity than large swaths of people who live in this country. I can't figure out if any of them actually care about anyone.

I'll take your challenge.

What's your take on Trump's comment that if abortion were to become illegal, then women who get them should face some sort of punishment?

Fetuses are humans, as a consequence, women who procure abortions have committed murder. There are some women who do this out of the coldness of their heart and there are some women who do this because they have been repeatedly told that a baby is a punishment and there are some women who do this because a boyfriend/father/etc is putting a large quantity of pressure on them. Women who fall into the last category are in need of help and mercy, not punishment, though community service would be acceptable to me. Women in the middle category probably do need some punishment. Women in the first category should go to jail for murder.

The determination of which is something best left to prosecutorial/judicial discretion or a jury to decide.

Then, what's your take on Cruz trying to leverage this by pandering to the abortion crowd?

I think Ted Cruz gets his talking points on this matter from the pro-life media who seem to view Trump as falling into the category of the enemy of my enemy should be scorned.

More food for thought - the way the question was cadged ("If it becomes illegal..."), what Trump was really doing was supporting the rule of law - abortion was used to get some to pretty much denounce the rule of law.

Agree some women might need help and mercy, but would that be the same thought if they were "cajoled/pressured into killing a 4 year old? Where does rule of law stop for those mentally able to understand right from wrong but who opt for wrong as the easier way to go about it?

We could probably run through a hundred permutaions and special sets of circumstances but ultimately, this has been turned into a debate on abortion when the real issue is rule of law - if somemone does something illegal, contrary to a valid law, should there be some sort of punishment (Trump's words were that there should be "some sort of punishment" which indicate he was speaking in a general sense about a question of rule of law with abortion as a subtopic.) and there can be a lot of different answers depending on one's points of view on a number of subtopics.
