Only Trump has a realistic path to a delegate majority.

"Coincidentally, after tonight both Trump and Sanders need 58 percent of remaining delegates to reach a majority (in Sanders’s case, this refers to pledged delegates only). But only Trump has a realistic path to a delegate majority, because the remaining Republican calendar is heavily winner-take-all."

Wisconsin has a well organized, tested and hardened GOPe machine, such an apparatus does not exist in the remaining rust belt/New England states. I giv Kudos to the GOPe, if they had such apparatus in all 50 states they’d never lose and election but they don’t.

I don’t think WI is a bellweather. I stated before if there was someplace on the map Cruz could surprise WI was it, but after that? Not much else left. Maybe IN in a long shot? But otherwise not a whole lot left where Cruz can surprise.

Trump did self inflict some wounds, and we’ll see if he recovers or collapses. I would bet on the prior over the latter but time will tell. If New York does hold strong for Trump which I suspect it will he remains on track for the nomination. If not we go to a contested convention and we wind up with most likely a candidate who was never on the Ballot and the GOP becomes effectively done as a national party for at least a decade.

I am amazed at the general stupidity of the Republican Party and its leadership. They finally after nearly 3 decades have someone who legitimately is growing the base and they are fighting harder against them than they have against the democrats in decades. GOP deserves to die, it truly is too stupid to live.

It made sense to me but I can’t cite the numbers

Uh, so Ted Cruz is not even an American? Trumpanzees disgust me!

"Trumpanzees".

It is a classic psychological tactic to dehumanize your enemy; make them in fact less-than-human. It's been used thru history to enable unleashing any sort of atrocity against such an enemy. After all, they're not even human.

I remember during the 1980 election, ALL THE MEDIA declaring, an Actor can’t win against Jimmy Carter. In fact all the polls up until October, had Peanut Jimmy winning...
And then the penny dropped!

BOOM!

When the Media/Elite says someone can’t win, what they really mean:

HE WILL.

Cruz will be mathematically eliminated on April 26th, to reach 1237 and should drop out, like he asked Kasich to.

If Cruz is not a GOPe stooge, and I am going on that, he should when mathematically eliminated should make the call to Trump and they should talk. Ted Cruz could do a lot of good acting as whip for Trump up on Capitol Hill as Veep. Talk about heads exploding if that were to happen. I am sure our two camps could be reconciled and could be quite a juggernaut. You say no way, to much personal animus. Don't be so sure, even with the wife stuff. Trump is pragmatic and knows what Cruz brings could rocket him past either of the pathetic Democrat offerings.

Or, Cruz can fight and maneuver at the convention, further dividing our two camps, and by some miracle win and LOSE. I will vote for Cruz in the general, said that from the beginning, this is about defeating the Marxist and the other Marxist not about some inter-party food fight. I do think some Cruz supporters are making this about humiliating Trump and not about winning. They view this as sport, a gladiatorial combat they are living vicariously through. Most of them have said they would never vote for Donald Trump and that puzzles me.

"So what. I am fully prepared to support Trump if he is the nominee. However, I have watched Ted Cruz get trashed here by quite a few people for the past six months, and they have all been whining lately how Cruz won’t do what’s good for the nation and drop out. It’s stupid. They also constantly predicted how Cruz was about to lose, and it was all over. "

That's your problem. You proceeded from a fallacy. It's an election. It's supposed to be fought to the end - on both sides. What is happening is good for the nation.

And what people like you have to understand - and clearly don't for some reason - is that it won't be Trump winning a head-bob at the wire, it'll be Trump looking over his shoulder up the track at Sham, about 400 delegates back:

A candidate who runs for the nomination of a political party has a responsibility to know the rules of the party. The GOP is an incorporated organization, subject to its own internal rules and bylaws. Which are widely published, and fairly easy to understand. Some are fixed, some, like the convention rules, are dynamic. If a candidate does not understand the rules they can hire advisors who do. Or they can remain ignorant. But they cannot make up their own rules (like "I win the nomination if I have less than the required number of delegates on the first ballot".) Does not work that way.

If Trump is the nominee, the GOP is dead because of the down-ballot damage his enormous loss would cause. If he bolts the party and attempts a 3rd party challenge in the general election, I think there is at least a chance the GOP holds the House, which probably would not be true if he is the nominee. Look to the GHW Bush-Clinton-Perot election in 1992. Clinton won with ~43% of the vote. I think that kind of split would be possible with a Clinton-Cruz-Trump split, and I think Trump would end up in the Perot position. But that offers a better chance for control of the White House, or failing that, retention of at least one house of Congress than with Trump as nominee.

You are sooo right!

I read the other day that the Elite are calling the majority of Trump Supporters losers who failed in their own life and are looking for a father figure.

Well I know this, I had a wonderful father, but my country is starving for the guiding principles and leadership of her founding fathers.

I can see a possible scenario where Trump takes on Cruz as his veep. Something like Kennedy and Johnson, Cruz would be used to get not just delegates but the votes of those like many of the name-calling yahoos here always whining about being mistreated.

A Trump/Cruz ticket is the perfect strategy for beating the GOPe but there are personal biases at work. My guess is Trump can put that aside, but Ted has been the target of a lot more humiliation from Trump than vice versa making Ted ripe for the GOPe's soothing lies. "We want you Ted! Help us destroy Trump! There's a place for you on the ticket..."

The best case would be if Ted is as cold and calculating as some of his critics claim. Then he would forget about all the personal stuff and do what's necessary to stop the GOPe at the convention. I don't know enough about the guy to even guess what he might do.

You’re right. I wasn’t very clear.

I meant that Cruz raided delegates “hard”, by haunting their porch fronts, so to speak, by climbing in their kitchen windows and banging on their back doors.

They would say anything to get rid of the $o&, and imho they won’t want to deny the people’s vote in the primary.

I said for months if the GOPE is successful at taking out TRUMP with their shenanigans, Cruz will be a piece of cake for them. Cruz won’t be the nominee.

Well I think the last primary is June 7th NJ. But no Trump won’t drop out if he’s short on delegates. He will use the 6 or weeks in between then and the convention to cut a deal with Rubio, Kasich or Cruz so he wins on the first ballot. Trump is a better negotiator than a campaigner. He wrote “The Art of The Deal” that’s what he does best make deals. He will make a deal.

The media is going to have you believing the convention will be a brokered/contested convention when the likelihood of that happening is probably low.

I understand this line of reasoning. I really do. But it won't help. If the GOPe selects a Ryan or Romney at the convention every Trump and Cruz voter will believe in their gut, regardless of your logic, that they were cheated. Their hatred and bitterness will... trump... any eat your peas grow up and take it like a man spin you put on it. Millions will leave politics forever, shrinking the GOP base permanently.

If anyone here has the ears of the GOPe puppet masters they need to do some polling. Trump's way is the only way forward. There is no new winning coalition but the Trump coalition. Attempting to resuscitate the Moral Majority or Compassionate Neoconservatism won't work. The K-Street globalists have a statistically zero constituency among actual voters. Nationalism works. Voters love it. It can bring good paying middle class jobs back without makework government spending.

Immigrants vote Democrat. That's true for every major immigrant group except Cubans. Trump's strategy is so obvious only a GOP consultant could fail to endorse it.

Play by your rules and Hillary is president, she rams through amnesty, appoints social justice warrior judges and the entire Bill of Rights - not just the Second Amendment - is dead in eight years time. Is that what you party firsters want?

I would hope no one on FR does... but sometimes I wonder. There were McCain supporters here...

It won’t matter if Trump gets to 1237 or gets the nomination on a second or third ballot. What matters is that Trump and Cruz supporters MUST join forces in the general in order to win. Same applies to Cruz supporters (if he were to get the nomination). Both camps have many millions of supporters. Neither side can be alienated from the other and hope to win the general. This means that some negotiation MUST happen on the Republican side. It just so happens that Trump is an excellent negotiator. Hopefully, whatever the primary outcome, Trump will bring these skills to bear, and a winning team will emerge.

Trump has been throwing rocks at others while himself living in the YUUUUGEst glass house ever, it seems. He can call Cruz “Lyin Ted”, but we cannot poke a little fun in return? Trump supporters call Cruz a Canadian usurper and we stay silent? Trump supporters spread lies about Cruz’s supposed infidelities, while we stay silent?

Cruz will stop Trump from getting the nomination outright. Then, Cruz will fight for the delegates. And Cruz will defeat the fake Republican — the Truest RINO there is. Finally, Cruz will destroy Hillary to be the 45th POTUS!

Trump will be going back to his old tricks of paying off politicians to evict old people from their homes so that he can build more parking lots for his casinos. Oh, and his wife has better appearance than others. Congratulations.

Everything up to the last line is at least basically realistic and credible. The last line just isn't going to happen. I can't imagine Cruz changing the electoral college map much from it's 2012 composition. In fact, it's more likely that he loses some electoral votes than adds anywhere near enough votes to get to 270.
