Donald Trump Loses Weekend Delegate Fight in Five States

Donald Trump’s effort to reset his campaign following defeat in Wisconsin showed no signs of paying off this weekend, as a series of technical failures by his campaign set his hopes back even further.

From Thursday to Saturday, Trump suffered setbacks in Colorado, Iowa, Michigan, South Carolina and Indiana that raise new doubts about his campaign’s preparedness for the long slog of delegate hunting as the GOP race approaches a possible contested convention. He lost the battle on two fronts. Cruz picked up 28 pledged delegates in Colorado. In the other states, rival campaigns were able to place dozens of their own loyalists in delegate spots pledged to Trump on the first ballot. This will matter if Trump fails to win a majority of delegates on the first ballot in Cleveland, as his delegates defect once party rules allow them to choose the candidate they want to nominate.

Too bad. They need to get their act together fast. Of course the best would be to get the magic number of 1237 going into the convention, then there won't have to be a second ballot.

MICHIGAN? The story there was that a Trump/Kasich deal skunked Cruz.

Cruz will be the nominee. Get used to it..come to terms with it and either embrace it, vote 3rd party, vote for Hillary, or stay home. But Cruz will be the nominee. I will vote for him. He could be better. I wish he didn’t look at goofy or have such a whiny voice. But it is what it is and he will be the nominee.

I’m as big a Trump fan as you can get, and this worries me. He just doesn’t seem to be taking the whole “I’m running for President” thing seriously.

Cruz and Kasich both got 17 delegates.

The Cruz campaign admitted they were relying on John Kasich votes and for some reason the Kasich people decided to ally with Trump in the upper midwest.

The media campaign against Trump is working.

As soon as he’s knocked out, and Cruz becomes the anointed, they’ll start in on Cruz.

Then, whoever comes next - until they’ve arrived at a non-starter whom Hillary, their chosen, can defeat.

But Cruz was denied any slots on the key committees.

Kasich might be running for VP, using delegates to buy his way in.

There are much better VP choices.

The advisor who dropped out of his campaign said Trump never did seriously expect to become President. His plan was to come in second in the primaries. The bottom line is Trump is extremely tight fisted with his cash. He only is willing to spend more after reality proves that the “cheap” method failed. And even then he seems to up his spending as minimally as possible. That has put him behind the curve on several fronts.

>>>Kasich might be running for VP..

That seems to be the only logical conclusion. That or a massive exercise in egotism.

Maybe Kasich just wants some wins on the board. I think Trump would rather have a rumor that Kasich could steal the nom. Cruz would rather claim that only he or Trump will be eligible in the rounds of revotes.

It seems to me that, in a given state, if the electors don’t reflect the choice of voters, the voters in the state ought to be outraged. Why isn’t this a problem that takes care of itself?
