Poll: Trump winning big in California (Trump 41%, Cruz 23%, Kasich 21%)

Ted Cruz called California "the big enchilada” on Wednesday and said it would be the state that ultimately decides the Republican nomination. But a new poll from Capitol Weekly/Sextant Strategies shows Donald Trump in a dominant position across the state.

The results, provided to POLITICO, show Trump leading statewide with 41 percent of the vote and Cruz trailing far behind with 23 percent. John Kasich is in third with 21 percent, and 15 percent of Republicans said they remain undecided.

California is worth 172 delegates when it votes on June 7 — with the winner of each of the state’s 53 congressional districts receiving three delegates. The statewide winner receives 13 delegates.

The Capitol Weekly/Sextant Strategies poll shows Trump winning in almost every corner of the state, from San Diego and Orange County to northern California and the Bay Area, though some regions have small sample sizes. Cruz performs strongest in the Central Valley, as he has in previous surveys, though he still trails Trump there by 7 percentage points, 35 percent to 28 percent. Trump leads in the liberal Bay Area, but it is Kasich who nudges above Cruz into second place, trailing Trump 39 percent to 25 percent.

Trump’s strongest region is the Inland Empire of southern California, where he hits 49 percent support. Trump scores best among older voters, winning those 55 and over with 43 percent, and weaker among younger voters.

I was really disappointed with his (Trump’s) Transgender Bathroom statement today.

There is one problem with this - Trump didn’t start getting his delegate slates together until last week, and he only has two more weeks to finish. He has to find 6 delegates in each congressional district (three delegates, three alternates). They must be registered Republicans, and they must be able to pay a $900 participation fee out of their own pockets (the campaign cannot pay the fee.) In addition, they have to be able to afford the cost of the trip to Cleveland (travel, food, lodging) as well as a mandatory delegate meeting in LA a month before the convention.

Now, in some places this will not be a problem. But in a lot of congressional districts, there are very few Republicans to begin with. And a lot of those districts are low-income (south Central LA, the central valley, etc). So finding 6 Republicans who support Trump and can afford the cost of being a delegate might be tough to do in 2 weeks. It took the Cruz campaign almost 6 months to find all the delegates - and they had a much larger operation in CA than Trump currently has.

In 08 McCain had the nom locked down before CA ever voted. Same for Mitt.

Will be interesting to see how things shake out when CA matters.

Note to team Cruz... insulting NY hurt Cruz, insulting CA is not part of Ted’s path to success.

Side note... 1 in 12 republicans nationwide live in CA. Dismissing the judgment of the state as a whole is ludicrous. Remember we also gave you Reagan and Duncan Hunter v1 and v2.

Trump 41%, Cruz 23%, Kasich 21%

Trump is so doomed!

Cruz and Kasich are both beating him, 44% to 41%. Doomed!

Trump should just give up and go back to creating jobs. He should leave politics to the politicians who made our economy what it is today, with a record seven consecutive years of not quite being in a recession. Doomed, I say!

DOOMED!

Note: Sarcasm may have been present in the above.

Sequestered or Quarantined ! !

Seriously, I had no idea that so many were of so little integrity and corruptible.
So much for a man and his word. Lord have mercy on us all.

Surely Trump will figure it all out by being much more proactive for the rest of the race.

You folks are melting down.

You’re seeking backing, and all you’re doing is working up sympathy.

Tead is politically ded.

Deal with it.

“Yes, you tried but unfortunately Ted Cruz is such an awful candidate he couldn’t get elected dog catcher outside of Texas.”

Correct, plus the “principled” Cruz is out trying to steal candidates to thwart the will of the voters. GO TRUMP GO

Once Cruz gets trounced next week, losing 5 out of 5, and probably coming in dead-last in at least 3 of them, his numbers will decline significantly. By time the CA primary rolls around, Trump will get over 50 percent.

Same here. We just skip this year. It is a breath of fresh air to be where people speak English, are polite, and love America.

I tell everyone I meet how horrific it was there. Nobody can even imagine what it’s like to be where it’s invaded unless they lived there. I tried to warn everyone not to let it happen here. There are a few here, and they are just the same even though they’re in the minority. Refuse to speak English, exceedingly rude, exceedingly racist.

“California is definitely Trump Country among Republicans, because illegal aliens are a big issue here and they love Trump’s message both regarding building a wall aa well as the economy and jobs.”

I am glad to hear this. I hope it will be reflected in the votes.

Why should California be excluded from Cruz backers idiotic bashing of their states and people? NY plus the states that vote next Tuesday have a full 25% of the nations overall population, but hasn’t stopped the Cruz backers from bashing them as nothing but libtard crap states and worse.

Why should California be exempt from their insanity?

Cruz has damaged his brand beyond believe with his behavior this election cycle.... he’ll be lucky to win re-election in 2018 at the rate he’s going.

CNN Larry King working his delegate map gives Trump several ways to get within 60. And now Fox is making Bret Baier use one too and he also puts him in the 50/60 short range.

Covering that shortfall will be so easy a caveman could do it.

While you’re thinking ‘big picture,’ what ought to concern you is Trump’s propensity to change positions on issues - even immigration. There’s not enough solarcaine, bandages, and ointment for how badly you’re going to be burned by this guy.

Thanks CA Conservative,

With over 5 million registered republicans in CA, surely the campaign will find enough delegates for Donald Trump in California.

I bet the FR owner, Jim Robinson, knows a few republicans that would be honored to be Trump delegates.
