Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe, a Democrat, will sign an order Friday restoring the voting rights of more than 200,000 felons in the state.

The Richmond Times-Dispatch reported that the unprecedented move will also allow felons living in Virginia to sit on a jury, serve in elected office, or become a notary. The order will effectively restore the civil rights of both nonviolent and violent felons who have served their time in prison and completed parole.

According to the McAuliffe administration, the move will affect roughly 206,000 felons currently living in Virginia who have finished their prison sentences but not applied for a restoration of their rights. Most of those who will be affected are black.

“If a person has completed their sentence then all their rights should be restored.”

Actually, I agree with this. I don’t like the “long strings attached” paroles that they give out, that can stretch for years. The real reason for this is that it saves bags of money. If society wants to limit the freedom of criminals and keep safe from them, then it should be willing to pay to lock them up and be responsible for them.

This is a political stunt....

With the resitivion rate and the criminal element more interested in criminal culture....I don’t see a whole bunch of them getting worked up to vote...

Maybe 20,000 out of the 200,000 will wind up actually voting....

The other 180,000 will be voting by democrat operatives....

If a person has completed their sentence then all their rights should be restored. If their rights are not going to be restored at some point, then they have not completed their punishment. So don’t claim they have served their sentences if their rights are not restored. They are still being punished.

I agree with that...The law says their crimes have been paid for...It's just a pity they are mostly democrats...However, Trumps message of bringing jobs back to American may appeal to some them as well...

This is directly the fault of the scumbags in the GOPe who would not fund Ken Cuccinelli because he is a conservative. They gave 9 million to the F%^kin’ crook McDonnell and 3 million to Cuccinelli. And these pieces of crap whine and ask us to just vote for them one more time so they can (fill in the blanks). I can’t wait to see Trump rub them in the dirt.

“It’s a executive order and will be repealed with an other executive order as soon as Virginia elects a Republican governor.”

Meanwhile, all those felons will be voting in this next presidential election. The deed is done, and all these felons will be voting for Hillary. Terry is Hillary’s biggest flack and always has been.

It probably will not work. Most felons will not register to vote and will not put up with voting. Too much trouble.

They are affected too by the lack of jobs, much worse than normal people and they might be willing to take a chance on a Republican next this time around.

Probably 3% will go to the polls and vote.

Either they’ve paid their debt to society or they haven’t. If they have no voting rights, must they pay taxes? It stinks they probably vote Democrat, but that fault lies with the RNC for going soft on social issues.

“It probably will not work. Most felons will not register to vote and will not put up with voting. Too much trouble.”

Problem is that ‘someone’ will register for them, and that ‘someone’ will cast a vote in their name. Maybe more than once even.

“The alternative could be to make them exempt from paying taxes.”

The alternate could be to keep them TF in jail longer.

I’m not against a reformed felon having his rights restored on an individual basis, but I think he should at least have to make some effort to get them back.

I don’t know how much we’re really going to have to worry about this; most of the thugs in VA are on some kind of perpetual parole/probation.

This is worse than being ‘soft’ on criminals... this is giving criminals the deciding vote in Virginia's Presidential vote.

Old time democrat voter fraud must be getting harder to pull off..
