Hewitt: Doubtful that Trump reaches 1,237 delegates, unless a ‘political asteroid’ hits California

Radio host Hugh Hewitt joined MSNBC’s Steve Kornacki Thursday morning to discuss what many have already predicted will happen, including Hewitt, when the GOP descends into Cleveland for their convention in July: a contested convention. Not only that, but Hewitt said that there’s no way Donald Trump gets to 1,237 delegates, even with the rosiest of scenarios for the slate of northeastern primaries next Tuesday, Indiana in May, and California in June. There are 15 states left in the GOP primary season.

Hewitt said he went state-by-state and gave Trump very generous amounts of delegates in his projection, including 51 of 59 of Indiana’s slate. Trump needs 392 delegates to clinch the nomination. Hewitt said Trump probably wouldn’t get any delegates in Nebraska, South Dakota, or Montana, which means in 14 out of the 15 contests left, the billionaire would only get 273–and it’s doubtful he will do well in California, in which he would need to win 119 of the 172 delegates in that contest. He added that it’s doubtful that Trump would get any more than 100 by the time Cruz, Trump, and Kasich duke it out in The Golden State, unless a “political asteroid” occurs.

*** and it’s doubtful he will do well in California ***

Doubtful?
Which polls is Hugh reading?
Which people besides his own hardcore listeners is he talking to?

Trump is killing it in CA.

If Kasich is the nominee, be prepared to say the words “President-Elect Hillary Rodham Clinton” in November.

Which is probably what the scumbags at the GOPe want.

He’s been against Trump for awhile, he’s just sticking by his early prediction of a contested convention. If he’s right, he’s a star, he gains more listeners and gets on CNN more. It’s a money game for him.

As long as it is far enough away from Upland, a real asteroid might not be a bad idea for California.

“Shouldn’t the people in the remaining states have a say?”

You mean every state east of the Mississippi, except ME and OH, the SEC states, the SE states, Ill, MI, MO, AR, NV, and CA.; that Trump has or will win? Basically every population center in the US.

I used to listen to Hewitt several years ago. I had to stop because is GOPE everyday, all day and never gave information that turned out to be true.

I stopped listening to ALL the conservative radio jocks and began doing my own homework, finding that I’m more accurate because I’m not selling books to anyone.

I’ll use my own brain thank you!

Hewitt clearly hasn’t bothered looking at the latest CA polls or their internals showing Trump leading in all regions of the state. Trump looks on track to get a fair number of delegates more than he will actually need from CA. Beyond that, it’s ironic that he was talking to Steve Kornacki, who has shown a few different times recently exactly how Trump could easily get to 1237 by looking at each of the remaining states.

Hewitt just wants to spread disinformation with the hope that people won’t realize that Trump essentially already has this in the bag.

I know but the Trump supporters will stay home on election day. The Republicans will lose the election and their party will be torn apart.

Bill Hemmer game planned on his show last week and got 1236, one delegate shy. He said Trump will need to reel in some delegates to asure he goes over the top. The big issue is how will Indiana pan out. Most people have Trump winning big, by 10 or more percentage points. What helped is New York was better than expected. So Trump got a lot delegates there. He needs a good night in California as well. The other issue is the rable rousing never Trump clowns love to blatantly contradict other predictors. One guy said if Trump was within 60 delegates of the 1237 magic number then he would win on first ballot because he was way ahead in delegates. But the never Trump goons rolled some guy on the rules committee who said even if Trump got 1300 he could lose the nomination. So its a giant spat now between those who are level headed and those with derangement syndrome.

Cruz isn’t down by 3.

45 seconds maybe. But Cruz soul have to score a touchdown, followed by 3 successful onside kicks, a safety, and finally he’d have to score twice on the final play of the game.

Good luck with that.

Yep. Donald will cross 1000 on Tuesday and Cruz will become the new Kasich. California and other remaining states will go for Trump if for no other reason than they don’t want to be on the losing side. By the convention Trump will be North of 1300 Delegates.

When is his show on? His flag ship station in LA dropped him.

Bill Bennett left his early morning radio show he'd done for about twelve years and they put Hewitt on in that slot. 5:00 am to 8:00 am Central Time.

Used to listen to Bennett some mornings, but Hewitt is just unlistenable for me.

Cruz told Rubio to get out.

Cruz has told Kasich to get out.

McCain and Romney lost and then went on to be the nominee in the next election.

No one in modern politics has gone out of their way to bribe delegates. Neil Bush joined the Cruz campaign and this is the route they were going to take to get Jeb elected. However, Jeb, just couldn't take the ridicule and the Bush team has convinced Cruz that stealing/bribing delegates is a winning strategy.

No one like cheaters, rule benders or dishonest sitting Senators.

Cruz totally back stabbed the sitting Governor of Maine. Who does that? Cruz and his team are tone deaf and are oblivious as to how crass and shady they are coming across to average Americans. Notice both McCain and Romney could have taken their campaigns through April and May and bribed delegates, but they DID NOT. Why? Because they knew it would be the death nail of any future Presidential campaign bid.

Maine governor: Cruz campaign ‘stabbed us in the back’ at state convention

Cruz is coming across as a thief, conniver and someone who bribes to get ahead.

Not scientific, but up until about a Month ago, I was the only Cruz Supporter I knew living in CA.

That was then, this is now.

Today there aren't any Cruz Supporters in my circle of Family, Friends and Co-workers.

The one holdout is now leaning Trump. #;^)

The GOPe are absolutely convinced the only chance the Republicans have against Hillary is John Kasich. They think that the Cruz and Trump voters will come to their senses, calm down, and unite behind Kasich against Hillary.

That’s what the GOPe thinks and that’s what they are bound and determined to do.
