The love I lost. Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes
Smoke From a Distant Fire by the Sanford-Townsend Band features possibly the bast lyric ever: Don’t let the screen door hit you on your way out.
Neil stole the melody from the second movement of Rachmaninov's Second Symphony. He even used the same key: C Major.
Brand New Girl Friend (Steve Holy)
Don’t Think Twice, It’s Alright.
Motley Crue, (Girl) Don’t go away mad. (Girl just go away.)
Reasons by Earth, Wind and Fire
Phillip Bailey, (falsetto lead singer) once said that countless babies were conceived to a breakup song.
Lucille--The Drifters (1954)
Meatloaf - Two Out of Three Ain’t Bad
For the Good Times.
Personal story on this one (if I may?) One Sunday after church I am talking to the minister, another guy comes up and says:
"Hey, Roy Orbison just released a new CD"
Another guy joined us, we drove to the record store, all of his bought it, sight unheard and drove around the beach area that afternoon listening to that album. I think we played Mystery Girl three or four times!
You know, I hate break up songs and just can’t see the point of listening to something emotional while you’re dealing with hurt. That said, this Taylor Swift song is perfect - no sentimentality, and deals with the neurotic behaviors that hurt recurrently in some relationships. Good choice.
I don't know that one. Could you hum a few bars?
“The Winner Takes it All” Abba
“Love Hurts” Nazareth or Gram Parsons/Emmylou Harris
“Never Gonna Fall in Love Again” Eric Carmen
“I Should Have Been True” The Mavericks
“Day After Day” Badfinger
“The Chain” Fleetwood Mac
“Knowing Me, Knowing You” Abba
That Black and White Show version of Orbison’s “Crying” is awesome!
