I agree, Mattis should not be in any position to be in line for the presidency.
Mattis wanted that 4th star and he was willing to throw the Haditha Marines under the bus to get it.
In doing so he sacrificed his honor and any future in higher office.
Cruz has poor judgement due to his lack of ethics. None of his peers in the Senate have any respect for him.

He is much more than that. His speeches last year at the Iran deal protest was riveting. He can give back as good as he gets from Libs.
Two things about West losing re-election. First, Michelle Fields ***falsely*** [she admits this] accused him of sexual assault.
Secondly, the election was blatantly stolen by the Dems. This is one of those instances where 110 to 115 percent of registered voters in various precincts voted for the Dem. That is a fact. If the GOPe were not part of the Uniparty, they’d have challenged the results and won. West didn’t have the money to do it all alone, so the theft was allowed to stand.
General Mattis is reportedly on Trump’s short list for VP.
Kristol was trying to recruit him to run as a third party candidate but Mattis ruled it out.
He hasn’t ruled out running on Trump’s ticket though. He is no fan of Hillary and I believe he’ll do it.
Jim Webb could be a dark horse.
That’s the fly in the ointment. Iirc, West is not Trump’s biggest fan. In my dream scenario, Dr. Carson forms a delegation of one, speaks with singular persuasiveness to West, and wins him over.
Also going by memory, West has been more positive about Trump lately than at first, so his joining the ticket is certainly not out of the question.
Saw Hunter Jr over the weekend on cables. Liked what I saw and heard.
He checks a lot of boxes. Young, attractive, well spoken, conservative, military and legislative experience.
