Ted Cruz stalls on endorsing Trump (as he returned to Senate)

Ted Cruz repeatedly declined to endorse Donald Trump for president on Tuesday as he returned to the Senate for the first time since dropping out of the presidential race.

The Texas senator, who finished second to Trump in winning 565 delegates in the GOP primary, according to The New York Times’s delegate tracker, said there is plenty of time to make a decision on an endorsement.

“There are two and a half months until the Republican convention, six months until the general election,” Cruz told reporters crowded outside his Russell Building office. “There will be plenty of time for voters to make the determination who they’re going to support,” he continued, saying it would be incumbent on Trump to convince pro-Cruz voters to support him in the general election.

Cruz’s return to the Senate, where he has not cast a vote since February, came one week after he ripped Trump as an “utterly amoral” pathological liar, narcissist and bully. Later that night, Trump soundly defeated the Texan in Indiana’s primary, a loss that Cruz said cut off any path he had toward the GOP nomination.

They talk about Cruz returning to the senate as though he hadn't been there for a while.

Surely Cruz was carrying out his senatorial duties during his campaign. Wasn't he?

Nothing sucks more than being Ted.

He spewed greem pea soup on his way out.

Liberal soup, that gives you the diarreas for 4 days.

If he has violated that public pledge, what pledges can we expect him to honor?

Cruz is being a self-serving douchebag.

If he were honest about his goals to support “free-market principles and constitutional liberties” it wouldn’t be difficult to get Trump on the same page (which he basically is already).

Apparently he wasn’t carrying out his senatorial duties. No votes since Feb.

In a just world, he’d be docked salary for the time he wasn’t there.

Sad to see.
He has a legitimate right to negotiate (speaking spot, platform items, etc.) but drawing it out is poor judgment.
Get a deal and get on board quickly.

Unless I’ve missed something, Ted’s only suspended his campaign and won’t endorse Trump because Ted still hopes to be the nominee.

I vited for this guy in 2012. He is going to have to do some downright awesome stuff to get my vote again in 2018.

Cruz sure is working hard to get that V.P. slot!

/s

Darned good sport, that Cruz!

(that said, being a Cruz guy....I feel kind of embarrassed by his and Trump’s behavior, but so far...Trump has been something of a gracious winner. btw, I thought all 17 candidates had pledged to support whoever ended up as winner)

And Hillary pledged to put out a 30 minute “chat” for $250,000. Not sure what the unmentioned frosting is for that cake.

I would suspect that in 2018 people running for his seat will include Dewhurst and George P. Bush, neither one will be supported by our household. Cruz does have some work to do after this failed presidential run and we do hope and pray he realizes this and gets his stuff back together again. He’s the first decent Senator Texas has had in a long time. Hope he doesn’t blow it.

You'd think reading some posts here that no one has ever hung onto their delegates in case something came up or to pursue their points making it to the platform. And apparently suspend to some here means to hand over the delegates, apologize profusely, and then commit seppuku as soon as it's convenient. Well, to borrow a meme, some here appear to be Sore Winnerman and unable to win with grace. Stay classy Trump fans, most of us will vote against Hillary rather than stay home. We may have clothespins on, but we'll vote for Trump after he is nominated.

I was not a Cruz fan but leave the guy alone. He will come around. He got beat up pretty good. This is a media game to create division.
