Donald Trump says there’s a 40 percent chance he picks someone from this year’s Republican presidential field as his vice president. But the odds-on favorite to win the veepstakes: Newt Gingrich.
The former speaker of the house was a perpetual thorn in the side of the Bill Clinton administration. And he sounds like he’s relishing a shot at Hillary Clinton. Gingrich has lavished praise on Trump. The business mogul has not said much about the man named Newt. But oddsmakers and betting markets like Gingrinch’s chances nonetheless.
In this unpredictable election season, bookies have some other strange options in mind for Trump. On betting site PaddyPower, you can place money on Mitt Romney (66/1), Lindsey Graham (80/1) and even Trump’s daughter (50/1) as of May 13...

What is his main objection to Trump?
I would guess, either, General James Mattis, or Governor Susana Martinez will be Donald Trump’s final pick for VP. I would, also, hope that, both, Rep. Duncan Hunter, Jr. and Rep. Tom McClintock will, also, be on Trump’s short list for VP. All of these people mentioned, including most from the given list of 40 possibilities, should be in a Trump administration somewhere.
Ivanka is the best. Too bad she’s so closely related.
Don’t think Stephen Miller is old enough. Ivanka may not be either. Hunter is.

I’m curious, what would be the down side of choosing Condi? She seems like a pretty solid choice, excellent cred, highly intelligent, and I’d love to see Trump crucify the media when they start to bash a black woman. I’m not aware of any serious baggage, but then, I’m not as well versed as some of my fellow freepers in her history. I guess the question that always needs to be asked for VEEP choice is, “Can one see her as president”?
My best friend and I have said HUNTER since last fall. How old is he ?
The VP nominee will almost certainly by subject to intense and continued ridicule by the media and the Washington establishment. All his previous accomplishments will be overlooked and every potential weakness will be subject to intense scrutiny.
As the number two man he will be limited in how much he can make it about himself and will often simply have to take it.
So many promising Republicans have seen their career destroyed by the media once they took the VP spot.
Spiro Agnew was a successful Republican who had won the Governorship of Maryland, a heavily Democrat state. He was ridiculed and eventually framed by convicted prisoners who were promised freedom to offer perjured testimony against him.
Dan Quayle was an intelligent and successful young Senator when chosen for the VP spot. The media undermined him and ridiculed him with lie after lie. He continued courageously and made many contributions but was sabotaged and never returned to elective office.
Sarah Palin was a remarkable success who became Governor of Alaska due to intelligence, courage and a great ability to relate to people. After becoming the VP nominee she was targeted, lied about, ridiculed and stabbed in the back by McCain's people. She was forced out of the Governorship by merit-less lawsuits.
A Republican VP nominee can be many different things, but must have two essential characteristics.
The first is toughness. A VP must be strong enough to endure continual ridicule and still articulate important political points.
The second is integrity. A nominee must be strong enough to stick by his principles and values no matter how overwhelming the pressure to betray them.
Given that, my first choice would be Scott Walker. He has stood strong in Wisconsin and fought against the most dishonest and vicious attacks.

The headline was pretty much literally exactly what it was about.

Trump as his own VP. Is that like Dwight as his own asst mgr on The Office? But on a serious note Gov Walker is a good bet as at 40/1.

Not convinced of this thesis. Younger nominees have often gone on to good things — Dole, George HW Bush, Paul Ryan. Older nominees have been fine too: Jack Kemp, Dick Cheney. Palin and Quayle were objectively terrible choices and fared as badly as one would expect.
Sessions would be a terrible choice.
The election will be close, and Sessions brings NOTHING to the ticket. Doesn’t add a state, doesn’t enhance a demographic.

Mr. Trump needs a woman on the ticket.
There is no way he will get a majority of women to vote for him without a woman for his VP.
I would like to see him pick Gov. Mary Fallin or former Arizona Gov Jan Brewer.
Newt Gingrich is a has-been, and he is toooooo old.
John Kasich is total yuck.
Chris Christie is a Democrat.
We already have a Northerner on the ticket, pick someone from a different area of the country. South, Midwest, West, or Hawaii....
Hunter would be a terrible choice.
We MUST win this election. Hunter adds zero to the ticket. Horrible choice.

Your Yes list is horrible. Probably the three worst choices.
Exactly. It will probably be, yawn, Jared Kushner again who seems to be the go-to guy for everything.
Remember, the key qualifications will be that Trump "likes" or "loves" the person and that the person "likes" or "loves" Trump. That doesn't seem to be the case for most if not all on the list. And Kushner is 35. So it's a natural.
