"Caused in large part by the environmental whackos discharging fresh water into the ocean"

Do not conflate poor water management with drought.

It's indisputable CA is experiencing a historic drought. A devastating drought.

Even the nearly average rainfall this last winter has not broken it.

That said, the vast majority of surface water that does fall on CA ends up in the sea, or in subterranean aquifers.

We simply do not have enough damns to store water from good years to use in the bad. This was not a big issue in the 80's and 90's as we had good rainfall and far fewer people. Norcal was able to ship vast amounts of water to the southern valley and caused an explosion of agriculture there...but they never had much water of their own.

Average annual rainfall from Fresno to Bakersfield varies from 6.5 to 8.5 inches with a commensurate portion deposited as snow in the Southern Sierras.

Reagans' water projects and canals turned the southern valley into an agricultural paradise.

But when it quit raining in Norcal the entire system was blown away.

What we need is a canal system and tunnels/pumps to bring Columbia River water from Oregon to CA. That, and a dozen more damns in Norcal...and Socal...to store what water does fall.

But to suggest the drought is manmade is simply ludicrous. Half or more of the agricultural land in production in the southern valley would never have been developed without Norcal water. And they were the first to be cut off.

Agricultural production in the north valley has remained intact. And it's every bit as productive, or more so, than the southern valley.

In Arizona we call this the Salt River Project, designed by Carl Hayden, Ernest McFarland, and John Rhodes, with a great system of canals coming out of the lakes.

Well, there IS a drought since our snowfall at our cabin in the Sierras went from 25’ to under 10’.

BUT, he is very right in that the drought that is causing people problems is government-made.

Even better, the people of CA KNOW what he is talking about. There are signs all over the valley where water is being denied blaming politicians.

This will go over BIG with the people, especially those in farming areas.

He is a genius. Once again.

Deport the illegals and there won’t be a water problem. Or a health care problem. Or a housing problem. Or an unemployment problem. Or a traffic problem. Or an educational problem. Or a ....

exactly that. ALL of CA's problems are self-induced.

“No, you need less swimming pools and PEOPLE.”

We had watering restrictions in Bakersfield - yet there were NO restrictions whatsoever on all the pools being filled.

And of course, no restrictions on all the illegals there.

Glad I left!

The rotten Federal bastards declared the above trash fish as an endangered species.

So, they release water into the Delta supposedly to protect it and ruin the farmers needing the water to raise food for America and the rest of the world.

What empty reservoirs!

Drive a few minutes to check out the water releases at Folsom to handle the snow melt. Those releases have been going on for close to two months.

One of our younger relatives in the Northern Bay area rides his mountain bikes around many of the reservoirs in that area. He has commented that most have been overflowing for months and still have water flowing in from the creeks going into the reservoirs.

The trees/shrubs from the SF Bay north to Oregon may be the greenest in years. So our drought is over for this year.

IT seems that all Trump has to do to get votes is to go to each state and tell them what he’s going to turn around for us. California needs water. Pennsylvania wants their coal mines. We need to be oil independent.. drill baby drill. Close the borders. obama has hit everyone in his 8 years.. just name over and make one of the agendas, to UNDO all he’s done.. it will make the people happy and it will make obama angry. He thinks he’s going to still run Washington after the election.. living close by. But I think the media will be so busy following Trump around that the liar in chief will have a hard time finding a microphone or an audience for his obvious, obnoxious lies.

I’d agree with wasting water for smelt when it should go to farming.

Honestly, no.

This is the meme that's been sold to you by the left, and the trick they use is to look at CA precipitation over a span of weeks rather than properly looking at it over decades, and using that knowledge to properly manage conservation, storage, sources and creation.

There really isn't much of a drought, the problem is mismanagement.

Understand that (use of the word) "drought" describing the problem means that you should give the government bureaucrats MORE power to solve the problem, while (use of the words) "Bureaucratic Mismanagement" means you should remove power from the Government Bureaucrats to solve the problem. And possibly put a few in jail.

Which words do you think the government and their media and government funded "scientific" lackeys will use?

Seriously, how can you have a drought in a freakin’ desert?

It's kind of hard.

This is the question that everyone fails to ask, but is the most critical point in the Western water policy.

California is a desert.

I don’t think so. Your response to me was about the actual snowfall that I measured in my front yard at my cabin in the Sierras. There were no liberals around telling me that what I saw was under 10 feet was really over 20. I can do simple math all by myself. And I see that where once the snowpack was about 7 feet it dwindled down to next to nothing where people couldn’t even go snowmobiling.

Reality is reality, whether it’s a liberal trying to spin it or conservative trying to spin it. We don’t do our cause any good by sounding ridiculous.

Mismanagement is certainly California’s biggest problem. Whether it is fiscal or water related. And knowing that snowfall in rainfall very substantially their they should’ve saved up during the good years. Just like they should’ve with their fiscal issues.

But don’t tell me that what I saw and measured I didn’t see or measure.

I just realized that you probably don’t understand that the snowpack in California fed the reservoirs throughout its melting time. Since there are some very tall peaks they are, the last of the snowmelt didn’t happen until mid-summer. The snowpack was a good indication of what the water availability would be during the next summer.

This only affected regions around the mountains of course. And typically only on the west side of the mountains, since the east side got little snow.

The Delta smelt calamity was a whole other issue. Unrelated.

What about all the empty reservoirs?

Sorry, California reservoirs are full as of mid May 2016.

Here is an interactive map, 2016 is the orange line wait about 30 seconds for the graphs to load.

CA wildlife officials have threatened to shoot citizens defending themselves from California Cougars (mountain lions), but I don't know about bears.

The Valley Oak is a tree that has a tap root...They draw their water from the natural water table. They are dying by the millions.

Get used to it, they died before, they'll die again.

There is more than one way to replenish the water table when you have adults in charge.

Think and analyze in decades not seasons, you'll figure it out.
