First on CNN: Trump campaign eyeing big stadium for acceptance speech
CNN ^ | 29 May 2016 | Jim Acosta

(CNN)Donald Trump's campaign is considering booking one of Cleveland's big sports venues for his acceptance speech in July, two GOP sources familiar with the planning of the upcoming GOP convention say.

The sources said First Energy Stadium, home of the Cleveland Browns, and Progressive Field, home of the city's Indians baseball team, are the two sites under consideration for Trump's acceptance speech on the final night of the convention.

One of the sources said the campaign is closing in on signing a contract for use of one of the two venues, with the football stadium currently the favorite for Trump's speech. "It's going to be a big production," a Trump campaign adviser told CNN. "Given Trump's profile and how he handles things, nothing is off the table." "And he's going to be intimately involved in it," the adviser added.

Trump has said in recent weeks that he wants to add a Hollywood flair to this summer's convention, adding that he thought the nominating event for 2012 GOP candidate Mitt Romney was too boring.

Trump may also campaign in targeted cities around the country during the first few nights of the convention to build excitement for his arrival in Cleveland, sources added.

The Trump campaign is deploying a big team of staffers and volunteers to Cleveland in the coming days to join forces with GOP officials already in place in the city to accelerate planning, which is widely considered behind schedule and up against major logistical challenges.

“mistake by the lake”

No, Chicago and Detroit have taken that 50-year-old name from Cleveland.

I’d vote for First Energy, it holds about 80,000, Progressive only about 36,000.

I don’t think Trump would use 0bama’s Greek Styrofoam columns.

I’m definitely with you, the bigger the better!!
Cannot wait for our next POTUS to speak to 80,000 roaring supporters!!
And, I love the name of the football stadium, so apropos for describing Trump’s work ethic!!!

I'd vote for First Energy

Not just for the 80,000 seating. For logistics. Progressive is so close to the Q that it shares a mall area. Logistics would be a nightmare.

It just makes sense to put the acceptance speech at First Energy, by the lake, a very easy walk but a nice distance from what will be the mucked up area around the Q. Besides which, after days on end in the Q, probably with ventilation and overheating issues by that point, folks will be real happy to get outside in a different place.

Those Greek columns were a replica of the Pergamon altar, the throne of Satan.

After 8 years of Obama, this is just what the country needs....another self-absorbed, narcissistic ego-maniac whose one and only concern is himself.

I doubt Trump will have the Roman columns as stage props. If he does a stadium acceptance the backdrop should be images of American industry. Connect the message of America First, as Trump will no doubt make the theme of his acceptance speech, with imagery to the millions watching.

Only thing I want to see in the background at the convention is a big wall with the words “Paid for by Mexico” stamped on it. And if that’s done at “Progressive” Field, all the better. Time to crap in their backyard for a change.

Still don't understand why the GOP chose Cleveland for their nomination.

Great question. Yes -- Dallas, Nashville or any other fly-over city would have made far more sense.

Cleveland was originally supposed to have represented the traditional losing trainwreck the GOP would have symbolized with any other candidate NOT named "Trump."

I’ve been thinking that the stadiums should really be used as holding areas for detaining those paid rioters.

I’m thinking why not Cowboys Stadium. Fixed seating is 80K. Put more on the field boost capacity to maybe 100K. Trump would look good on that big screen tv Jerry Jones has. If he want to make America great again, why not start doing it on the home field of America’s Team?

Thump could appear in the 80K stadium live, and book the 30K with huge live stream video for the spill over. Fill both.

“I’ve been thinking that the stadiums should really be used as holding areas for detaining those paid rioters.”

I’m thinking it’s a place for Trump supporters to get away from the paid rioters. He always feels bad about those that don’t make it indoors to his rallies but instead have to deal with the pos protesters/rioters outside.
