David French signals the death of the ‘Never Trump’ movement. Sad!
washingtonpost.com ^ | June 1 at 10:14 AM | Chris Cillizza

The "Never Trump" movement died on Tuesday night.

That's when the loose affiliation of Republican pundits and conservative thinkers, banded together by their shared distaste for Donald Trump as the GOP nominee, leaked the news to Bloomberg that conservative lawyer David French was the secret third party candidate they have been working to recruit into the 2016 race as an alternative to the real estate mogul.

The French news ended days of frantic speculation set off by a tweet -- yes, this is the world we now live in -- by Weekly Standard editor and "Never Trump" leader Bill Kristol.

And, it confirmed what many -- including me -- had long suspected: The "Never Trump" movement is totally out of options.

....

Here's the problem: No one -- and I mean NO ONE -- outside of a small circle of conservatives and anti-Trump folks knows who David French is.

.....

Then there's the Trump factor. If you decide to run as the candidate of the "Never Trump" movement, you have to expect a full-frontal assault from the real estate billionaire. He will savage you, your family, your business and anything else that you currently or have ever cared about. That's a powerful deterrent to lots of private citizens -- including many who are independently wealthy and simply don't really need to run for office. Especially considering how long the odds are of even being relevant in the race.

The emergence of David French as the likely "Never Trump" standard-bearer is another win for Trump over the forces within the GOP aligned against him. They failed. He triumphed. Again.

I believe the best strategy for Trump at this point is to ignore him......Just call him “ Escargot Who?”

“I never hear from him any more.”

That’s what Martha Stewart would call a “good thing.”

By the way, I lived in Santa Barbara in the 1970’s, 1980’s, and part of the early 1990’s. Montecito is a wealthy community of about 5,000 people near Santa Barbara, and it is a place of stunning beauty. Fantastic climate.

“I believe the best strategy for Trump at this point is to ignore him ... “

Agree. No one knows who the guy is and it’s best to keep it that way.

This is the best Kristol and the liberal Republicans could come up with? A conservative hating lawyer from National Republican Party Review? Seriously?

Hey Kristol, get a life.

"....because of their vote...."

Exactly. I have done nothing nefarious to this gal. I even refrained from sending her my pro-Trump memes to keep the peace. I never criticized Cruz in emails to her or her, for voting for him. Nothing. Somehow she got wind from all the way across the continent that I was a Trump supporter and you would have thought I had threatened her and her family with evil and bodily harm.

She is relentlessly and ruthlessly attacking me for not voting for Cruz. She has called into question my intelligence, integrity, honesty and character for voting for a man she thinks is the devil incarnate. I have been cast into the darkness and might as well live in another universe from this gal now, who until several months ago, was a good friend. Bizarro.

Like you said, its all because of my vote.

Just occurred to me that "Conservative" is part of the same left/right repub/Rat lie.

The first battle to be fought is not left versus right but inside versus outside. The Kristols and the Medveds of the world are no less elitist than the Obamas and the Clintons.

I’ve never heard of David French before now.

I fail to see how he meets Bill Kristol’s lofty description. He’d be an impressive candidate for the US House, not for President, he’s an unknown. I guess no one better known wants to be associated with Kristol and Mitt’s attempt to elect Clinton.

Why not run run yourself, Bill? You aren’t impressive but you’re a lot better known than French. LOL?

So anyway this seems like nothing much to worry about, which is good.

They couldn’t do that scene today, it’s “homophobic.”

I hate Hollyweird Homofascists.

I tried out Fox biz news on the Roku -- rememebered why I'd not ever liked it, the interface is a POS -- and found a clip with Frank Luntz, alleged pollster, who claims those potential voters who are usually no-shows haven't decided yet because they have exactly equal distrust of both the Donald and Hitlery. I also found a clip with some other other yapping head regarding Gary Johnson (liberaltarian, who self-describes as agreeing with Bernie 73 percent of the time) and Bill Weld (liberal RINO), the Libertarian [sic] ticket.
