LONDON When Polands right-wing Prime Minister Beata Szydlo swept to an election victory late last year, one of the first things her government did was remove the blue European Union flag from the backdrop of her news conferences, and leave only the red and white Polish flag.
It was a symbolic, patriotic gesture that signaled a more distant relationship with Brussels.
At the same time in Austria, more than 260,000 citizens signed a petition that forced the Austrian parliament to open a discussion on a referendum to leave the European Union.
Eurosceptics in both countries are now watching Britains march to a June 23 referendum closely.
We need a referendum similar to the referendum in Great Britain, so the people of Austria can decide, said Robert Marschall, leader of Austrias EU Exit Party, in a VOA interview.

Scotland
Last guy gets left holdin' the bag!
I don’t think so, Scots were very eager to exchange their Brits masters for the EUros.
My bet is that all the other countries will first leave the E.U., leaving only Germany and Austria behind, which will then rename the European Union in the better-sounding Großdeutsches Reich.
Regards,
Somehow can't see Poland leaving anytime soon.
That was exactly my thought.Poland, and many other Eastern European members, are huge beneficiaries. It's the net *donors* who have the most to gain by leaving.
The Scots would also be wise to abandon England to its acquiescence to Islam, and Wales, Cornwall, and Northern Ireland would be wise to follow suit.
If the English and other Western European nations are determined to commit suicide, it's probably inevitable, but the non-suicidal people will simply have to abandon them to their fate.
I’m not so sure. Poland is strongly Catholic, and the prospects of a Muslim Conquest might override other concerns.
“Britain, if they’re smart”
They aren’t.
Descriptor | Scotland's religious demographics | England's religious demographics |
Non-religious | 36% | 25% |
Islam | 1.4% | 5% |
Christian | 54% | 60% |
While the number of moslems is lower, the Scots are less religious, far less religious
The Slovaks openly stated that they would take Christian refugees while Poland refused to take any refugees stating security concerns — I prefer the Slovak’s approach.
What usually isn't mentioned, is that we are already paying billions annually into it and it's growing year by year. After 2020 most of that will be actually our own money, just going via Belgium where some unelected dudes will decide how we should spend it. Add to that CO2 and a lot of other nonsense and it doesn't look like “huge beneficiaries” anymore.
Personally I think we would be better without it, sure it would take much more time to build decent infrastructure and several other things but they would be based on much more solid foundation.
But you are right that Poland or “Eastern Europe” in general is in different position than the UK and we surely won't see PolExit anytime soon. The approach of a current “far right” government is that we should try to change it from inside and that's good in my opinion.
It's not that EU is a bad concept by default, most of member states have population below 10 million people, this continent needs some sort of integration, the problem is that EU (just like many other initially good ideas) was taken over by far left, eco crazies, multi cultists, “Eurocrats” and other nutjobs, add to that Gerries who drive forward “further integration” because that means more influence for Germany, and the whole thing doesn't look good. However I'm not too exited about Brexit as without UK, the whole idea of changing it from inside will become much more difficult.
Although I'm not a European it seems to me that a strong argument could be made in favor of taking in *Christian* refugees...particularly given the fact that the "Religion of Peace" has declared *jihad* on Christians living in the countries involved.
Of course friendly relations, trade and cooperation among and between the nations of Europe (except, perhaps, those still in the Soviet orbit) is beneficial if not essential. But from this side of the Atlantic the EU of today looks to be something much different...much more sinister...much more likely to have been designed to benefit a few bloated bureaucrats than the 500 million people in the EU.
