Bill to end daylight saving time passes California committee
The Sacramento Bee ^ | JUNE 13, 2016 3:28 PM | BY ALEXEI KOSEFF

With little debate, a bill to end California’s observance of daylight saving time cleared its first committee on Monday.

Assembly Bill 385 could make California the third state not to observe daylight saving time, in addition to Hawaii and Arizona. If approved by a two-thirds majority of both houses of the Legislature and signed by Gov. Jerry Brown, it would put a measure on the ballot asking voters whether or not the state should eliminate the practice.

That’s what thick curtains are for. And all year DST means winter sunrises of 8:30, no easy work around for that.

Yes, this ought to really help glowbull warming, removing all those extra hours of sunlight per day.

They must be anxious for the sun to set to benefit the “criminal element”.

Yeah, but it still effects us. All the sports and some cable schedules move around. And there’s the crowd that thinks we shouldn’t be such outliers and go to DST with the rest. If more states come to their senses the crowd will lose steam.

How many voters think they need to be tricked into not knowing what time it is?

I would guess about the same number that set their clock fifteen minutes ahead to get out the door on time in the morning so as to not be late for work.

I just contacted my reps and “politely” asked them to make sure this gets to the ballot for a vote. And that I would consider the entire legislative year a success if this happened. They are both Dem’s. It felt weird.

Time Zones are dumb too. The US should have a single time zone.

Personally I really really like being able to take my vehicle out 4 wheeling in light for 4 hours after work

Yeah that wouldn’t work. Actually we should probably have more times with smaller offsets, the biggest problem with the time zones is always the edges where they’re way out of synch with the sun. 8 half hour time zones would fix that, though the TV networks would probably pee themselves.

Our beep. I’ve always found it funny when things alert you to low batteries by doing stuff that burns more power. I understand the usability factor, but it’s funny.

And there are two months of the year while people are zombies trying to adjust to the time change.

Maybe we should move toward something like Star Trek's 'star date', i.e. get rid of timezones completely and have everyone be on the same exact clock.

Then when you visited different parts of the world, not only would you need to know that the seasons might be in different months of the year, you would also need to know that people worked different hours.

This might actually help with jet lag. If you go on a virtual reality ride where the movement of your seat is not correctly synched to the movement on the screen you will tend to get sick.

It could be that when we go somewhere else and are constantly told "It is 8am and we should be wide awake" but we just came from somewhere where it was 5am and we want to sleep in a bit more, that we suffer something similar.

If everywhere we go it is the same time then we will at least intellectually know when we should be tired and when we should be awake, and then only have to decide to gut it out when necessary.

But what they aren’t saying is they are adopting their own time zone, kindda like North Korea.

Nah, people would still synchronize their world to their local sun. I’m not going to work at 1 in the morning because we decided GMT is the time, I’d be going to work at 3PM which oddly enough would look just like 8AM did before.
