It’s called Zulu time. Or Greenwich Mean Time. If we’re a global community then we’ll all be on the same time.

I’ll call you at 6AM means you call at 6 anywhere in the world regardless if it daylight or nighttime.

Seems to work okay for the military.

I pray this happens. I HATE DST. But I fear that the majority of voters in this state will vote to keep it.

The whole planet should have a single time zone. It’s the same time everywhere, we just call it something different.

What do you mean it wouldn't work?

Time zones are an anachronism. They were instituted when railroads were built. Even China only has 1 time zone.

With just 1 or 2 time zones, businesses would boom. Television programming would be more updated.

No everybody doesn’t hate it. I’d prefer the other way. Make Daylight Savings the year round standard.

“Voters would need to approve change”

Voters here do exactly what Democrats tell them to. Next up, voters will vote to overturn Prop 13. Then they will blame the Republicans that their property taxes went through the roof.

We should do like they do in Puerto Rico when they vote to decide their relationship to the US: provide three choices, none of which is supported by a majority, so that nothing ever changes but we get a bit of excitement every time it comes up for a vote:

1. Keep current split between DST and standard time
2. Always stay on DST
3. Always stay on standard time

Time zones aren’t an anachronism. They’re dealing with reality. The reality is the sun does NOT go up and down at the same time across the nation. Might work fine in a dictatorship, but in a country where people are actually allowed to think for themselves it’s a stupid idea. You’re either forcing parts of the country to adopt a terrible schedule greatly at odds with the sun schedule, or people will work with the sun and ignore what the clock says.

Business wouldn’t boom, business would be the same, business is 24/7 already and doesn’t care very much about the clocks. TV wouldn’t be more updated, if they didn’t slide their schedule they’d be stupid. You want prime time to happen 4PM to 7PM on the west coast? Does that sound updated? Does that sound even usable?

No, killing time zones is a silly idea. Actually a dumber idea than DST.

If Prop 13 were repealed property taxes wouldn't necessarily go through the roof. Each city/county could decide on its own what property taxes were. Some cities and counties could decide on lowering property taxes.

How great would that be? It then might make sense for people to vote in Republican mayors and county commissioners so they could have low property taxes.

Those successful tax-lowering mayors and commissioners could then go on to compete to become state assemblymen, senators, and even go after the governorship.

As it now with property taxes held where they are by the state, it is best to vote for a Democrat mayor or commissioner, i.e. someone who will work hard to lure as much state welfare as possible back to his district.

Dooo iiiit. DST is dumb. The world should dump it.

I agree the mythical (but nevertheless tremendously expressive) 1000%!

I don't recall that it's ever been on the ballot. It's something Our Masters thought would be good for us. Look at those damned peasants sleeping in the morning in the summer when the sun has been up for an hour!

That's okay with me. What I want is for the government to stop giving me two weeks of jet lag twice a year, to no purpose. Statistics show more car accidents and heart attacks in the days just after the time change.

I never understood why Arizona didn’t go along with the daylight savings until I got a job that sent me down there a lot during the summer. Sun isn’t your friend down there. They should do a “daylight losing time” and set their clocks back an hour in the spring when everyone else goes forward.
