What is incredible is that England was the country that formulated the rules for cricket, football (soccer), rugby league, rugby union, tennis and now its ranking in these is: cricket (#4 after Australia, India, Pakistan), soccer (#11), rugby (#3 and #2 respectively) and tennis (top player ranked at #2 (men’s) and #19 (women’s). What went wrong with this nation? They so dominated the world in the 1800s right up to the 1930s and the collapse of the gold standard.

I watched the entire game.

Most of the players on the Icelandic team are part-time soccer players, with full-time jobs. Some play out in the Danish or Dutch leagues, but are Icelandic citizens.

I’d say from the game....they were absolutely playing at top level, and I think they could take on the Germans as well. Defensively, they are probably one of the better teams in the series.

Visited Iceland last week and you wouldn’t believe the excitement about the games. What a lovely place and people. You can sense the struggle to survive in such a beautiful but foreboding place.

It’s a lesson that Jurgen Klinsmann hasn’t seemed to have learned with the USMNT...Team cohesion can overcome the difference in raw talent.

England has a population of 53 million.

Iceland has approximately the population of Toledo, Ohio.

This is YUGE!
