Cleveland police union asks for suspension of 'open carry' in wake of Baton Rouge, ahead of RNC
CNN ^

The head of Cleveland's largest police union is calling on Ohio Gov. John Kasich to temporarily restrict the state's open carry gun laws during this week's Republican National Convention following Sunday's shooting in Louisiana that killed three officers and wounded at least three others.

"We are sending a letter to Gov. Kasich requesting assistance from him. He could very easily do some kind of executive order or something -- I don't care if it's constitutional or not at this point," Stephen Loomis, president of Cleveland Police Patrolmen's Association, told CNN. "They can fight about it after the RNC or they can lift it after the RNC, but I want him to absolutely outlaw open-carry in Cuyahoga County until this RNC is over."

State law in Ohio allows for licensed firearm owners to wear their weapons in public. With the exception of a small "secure zone" inside and around the Quicken Loans Arena, residents, delegates and protesters are legally permitted to walk around the city -- including within its 1.7 square mile regulated "event zone" -- any firearm not explicitly banned by the state.

I am getting so mad at this.
I live in Cleveland suburbs. About a month ago, BLM did not like the protest zone arranged because it was too far away from the RNC and infringed on BLM’s free speech rights, even though no one was stopping them from speaking. They called it unconstitutional and the judge agreed (putting BLM front and center for the cameras). So NOW the Police Union head wants to infringe on everyone else’s rights? How about they move the protest zone away from the convention as originally planned?

I’m glad I don’t have any reason to go downtown (Cleveland). I live in one of the suburbs and I’ve been contemplating open carry, but I don’t expect BLM to march through my little ‘burb. If that happens ALL the Big Boy Toys come out.

Here is a link to the judge’s decision regarding a restricted protest zone to keep everyone safe. It was scrapped because the judge deemed it unconstitutional. Why not overturn this instead?

Don’t keep the peace-loving good guy sheep dogs from their rights!

You have an anticipation of thousands of protestors whose sole intent is to create chaos in the street at the RNC in a state/city that allows open carry.

Let me ask you this: Until that was revealed by the MSM over the past couple weeks, who would have known and who would have cared?

So more importantly, what was the purpose in making "Open Carry in Indiana" front page headlines over the past week?

Could it be that the MSM is attempting to create future news where such would never have happened had they not let it slip about Indiana's "Open Carry" law?

You're being played as are all the others around here............

YOUR media is just chomping at the bit to report on the first incident involving an individual who is openly carrying a firearm, be it hostile or not..........And you know damn well how they are going to spin that story.

So be careful of what you demand in regards to our rights...........

Exactly the opposite of what they ( and most police officers) should want _ probably a crazy commie pinko type got into the union power circle? They naturally gravitate to those positions, even when the membership is NOT Marxist

The cops should leave this alone unless/until some valid violation of the law occurs, then the State Governor could exercise his authority by immediately putting the convention area under National Guard military law for a few days, thus relieving the cops of danger to their poor little hineys. More union activity at work here.

Right, then. Here is what I see:

Oh get over it. Reach in your pants and unravel your panties so you're not so uncomfortable and just try to join in the discourse germane to this thread or go to the other one. Just quit whining.

Once again, Shep’s liberal thoughts betrayed him. How about reporting the news, for a change, instead of trying to create it? Oh wait, that’s not how they do it.

It’s a deflection tactic. They knew Kasich would refuse so now the Dems will blame Trump when the BLM and Black Panther thugs cause problems.

“...the time for the fight is now or never.”

Obama will keep throwing fuel on the fire until he either signs an EO or it gets so bad that people are forced to start fighting. Either way, he’ll get his wish.

Just when the police cannot protect you they want the one means of self-defense suspended?

They care about protecting themselves. YOU can go [CENSORED].

This idiot does not realize Obama is using this to consolidate power and break police unions so as to have policing fully under his federal control.
like I said, it was a matter of time until sheeple would spin Black Lives Matter into GunFree lives Matter. It has nothing to do with blacks.

Brave New Films, which received $250,000 from Mr. Soros‘ foundation, tried to make waves for Republicans by creating misinformation about their convention through social media.

Brave New Films is a social media “quick-strike capability” company that uses media, films, volunteers and internet video campaigns to “challenge mainstream media with the truth, and motivates people to take action on social issues nationwide,” according to its website.

In a Facebook posting, Brave New Films bragged about driving a fake internet campaign — a petition to allow for open carry at the convention — into the mainstream media. The petition was reported on as if Republicans wanted it, however, it was simply created by a liberal, Soros troll.

“And the 2016 internet Troll Of The Year Award goes to some genius from Ohio using pseudonym: the Hyperationalist,” Brave New Media wrote on their Facebook page, congratulating the original scammer. “When Washington Post and other mainstream media write about your act in a serious way — you won. Respect!”

“For the record: we are proud that we helped a bit, delivering over 30,000 clicks to the original petition,” Brave New Media added.

Deceit and lies — that’s what these groups are up to — and they’re using the mainstream media as their pawns.
