When J.D. Vance was a boy, his beloved grandmother “Mamaw” told her boozer husband that if he ever came home drunk again, she’d kill him. When he did, and passed out on the couch, she got a gasoline can, poured fuel all over him and dropped a lit match on his chest. He survived with mild burns, and later quit drinking.
One time when J.D.’s mom took exception to something the boy said in the car, she hit the accelerator and sped up to 100 miles per hour, screaming that she was going to kill them both. When he jumped in the backseat hoping to protect himself from the impact, he recalls, she instead pulled the car over “to beat the s- -t out of me.” The evening concluded with Mom being hauled away in a police car.
One of J.D.’s stepdads, Bob, though kindhearted, had a bad case of “Mountain Dew mouth.” Half his teeth had fallen out, the other half were black, brown and misshapen.

Zell Miller wrote a great book “The Mountains Within Me”. Zell grew up poor in a small town in North Georgia. His father died when he was young, but his resourceful, hard-working mother set a wonderful example for him.

Also the only white trash I am aware of is trying to move her rapist husband and her gigantic fat ass back into the Whitehouse.
Being from, and currently living in, East TN I can tell you straight up front that I feel much safer at a bluegrass festival with a bunch of ‘good ole’ boys’ roasting a hog in the ground and drinking beer than I would walking one block in Chicago, Baltimore, Memphis, or any other liberal Democrat pis* hole. Most of the so-called ‘white trash’ here have more common sense than any liberal I know and most work hard all day for what they have.

What are you babbling about? This is where the writer came from—Appalachia/Kentucky. He is writing about his own people and why they will vote for Trump.
The posted paragraphs are from the book written by a young man who came from the area, not really the NY posts words, but from the book. The guy lived there, grew up in Appalachia. It is his story of why they will probably vote Trump.

READ THE ARTICLE. It is not about racism or prejudice against hillbillies. It is a good review of the book by J. D. Vance who was raised in Appalachia. You might want to read articles prior to posting them and commenting.

The New York Post is a much better newspaper than either the NYT or the WP. This article is not typical.
What if you are white trash but have a college degree? Down here in the Deep South the lines blur....not such an easy label. I consider meth heads and such as white trash. If they have a job(usually) in construction, they are red neck or country folk.
