A coalition of national LGBT advocacy groups is urging the Big 12 not to admit BYU as a new member, FOX Sports has learned.
On Monday, Athlete Ally, a non-profit that conducts LGBT awareness campaigns for sports leagues, and the National Center for Lesbian Rights, sent a letter to Big 12 administrators detailing what they believe are discriminatory policies by BYU, a religious institution owned by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
In the letter addressed to commissioner Bob Bowlsby, the authors write in part: BYU actively and openly discriminates against its LGBT students and staff. It provides no protections for LGBT students Given BYUs homophobic, biphobic and transphobic policies and practices, BYU should not be rewarded with Big 12 membership.
The letter is co-signed by 23 other national and regional advocacy groups, including GLAAD and National Organization for Women (NOW). In addition to Bowlsby, the conferences 10 university presidents, athletic directors and other administrators were expected to be copied.
BYU students and faculty are expected to follow the schools Honor Code, which includes a section addressing Homosexual Behavior. While same-gender attraction is not itself an Honor Code violation, taking part in a same-sex relationship is.
Homosexual behavior is inappropriate and violates the Honor Code, it reads. Homosexual behavior includes not only sexual relations between members of the same sex, but all forms of physical intimacy that give expression to homosexual feelings.
Under that definition, an openly gay individual cannot be a BYU coach or athlete unless that person practices chastity. BYU students found to be in violation of the Honor Code can be suspended or dismissed.

So let me get this straight (pun intended)... These LGBT advocates want to promote acceptance and tolerance ... by pushing an organization to be exclusive and intolerant of others’ beliefs. Right. I bet you good money they don’t see the hypocrisy, double standard, and sheer irony.
I guess it’s ok for queers to be intolerant bullies...l
As a UConn fan, I hope the 4 universities will be UConn, Cinninati, USF and UCF (I live in Florida now).
What a bunch of BS.
The Big XII will never take a school named after a city or a directional school. They will only take schools named after a state unless it is a private school. Guaranteed.
I guess that means Southern Cal. will never realize their dream of joining the Big 12.
Queers: "We are the 3.8%." May 21, 2015
Follow that link to see how Gallup came up with 3.8%.
if the big12 can make money from BYU they’ll be invited.
This is supposed to be a bad thing, and yet it's OK if NCAA openly discriminates against institutions who expect their members to take the obligations of their faith seriously. Wait until a Muslim college wants to join the Big 12. Lib minds will be tied in Gordian knots.
Scratch Clemson and Auburn, too.
Odd that they would have a problem with BYU. Plenty of fluffers on campus.
“BYUs Honor Code band premarital sex, gay or straight. Gays and straights are treated equally on having sex.”
That is true - the problem now is that with homosexual marriage legalized, they will argue that they married and it is no longer “premarital sex.” It appears the current honor code quoted is more specific w/r/t homosexual behavior.
..And with music in the YMCA..
“It’s not bigotry when the Gaystapo does it!”
