The U.S. Trade Representative, which negotiates with foreign governments, told Reuters the move by China would not be surprising "given the high levels of domestic support China provides to its corn producers."
"China's overproduction of corn has created a growing stockpile of corn that appears to have reached unsustainable levels," agency spokesman Matt Swenson said. "Chinese exports could negatively impact corn prices just as U.S. farmers are harvesting their crops."
U.S. officials will monitor whether Chinese exports may be subsidized, a prospect the agency finds concerning, he said.
Traders and analysts said exports have been increasingly likely as China struggles with a massive grain surplus and prepares to harvest a bumper crop, its first in almost a decade without government price support.
Chinese corn prices have slumped more than 20 percent in the past year and are expected to fall further towards international benchmarks.

From the article: “the move by China would not be surprising “given the high levels of domestic support China provides to its corn producers.” “
From me: So I guess it is not surprising that the US has too much corn given the high levels of domestic support the US provides it corn producers
I am confused which one is the communist country?
I assume this means we will double down on dumb and provide even more support to the corn/ethanol industry. Can’t lose a corn war with China.
Mighty, mighty pleasin', you're pappy's corn squeezin'
lot of corn starch in that chinese food...
Now that they have a food surplus what’s their excuse for a one child policy?
I was referring to TPP, Asia trade in general. All of America needs to oay attention. Trade aint just about cars and Carrier. Any of that is currently not good and will only be exasperated by Hillary and the establishment.
Something must be working over there... maybe something along these lines...
China backs private property protection

Of course, animal food. I did not think of that.
They still have the usual nationalistic communist mumbo jumbo but cutting taxes and property rights are a step forward for productivity.
We’re living here in Mexico right now and I would say that the corn that Mexicans eat off the cob is just awful: hard, tasteless and ugly. Even when they doctor it up, you can’t steam, grill it or make it into pudding to salvage it.
And when you drive along the countryside, which is beautiful, corn is planted here and there and everywhere.
Farmers will have more secure land-use rights as a result of the Rural Land Contracting Law adopted in August 2002

Either that or melamin.
It’s still not inalienable private ownership of land because the communists are afraid to go so far as to actually trust individuals to do the right thing but with land use rights it is somewhat less dictatorial than it was before.
“TPP does not include China.”
Might as well.
China has free trade agreements with many of the TPP ‘partners’ and China benefit from the TPP is a very big way. The TPP Rules of Origin are weaker than NAFTA, and our ‘partners” can use even larger percentages of parts from China. Parts that can account for nearly the entire item is some cases.
Trump is right. China gets a back door.
I’ll have to stop by Walmart and try some...
“China co-o-rn!
Oh Momma don’t take my China corn, Momma don’t take my China corn, Momma don’t take my China corn awa-ay.”
‘Field corn’ is how farmers call it.
Field corn is probably 98% (WAG) of US corn production.
With which TPP countries does China have a free trade agreement? Which of those countries would benefit, instead of simply shipping their products directly to the USA?
“{Folks in Tennessee know what to do with excess corn!”
Sweet sweet sweet sour mash bourbon!!!
Quite a turnaround. I remember when the Chinese were starving. As a kid I was reminded of all the starving children in China when I would not finish my dinner. My reply? “So mail this to them”!
Better question is which TPP partner does China not have an existing free trade agreement with. That list is shorter.
The second part of your question is odd, the point was how China would benefit from TPP by EXPORT of their goods, not Importing. With that in mind, any one of the partners would benefit regardless of where they “directly” ship their goods.
So you can’t answer my questions.
This migt be just a temporary action to cover for the Chinese government’s mistakes in managing their corn supplies.
Here’s another Reuter’s China corn story from a few months ago for insight and comparison:
