(vanity) In 1980 two weeks from election polls had Jimmy Carter 47 -- Ronald Reagan 39

Pollsters and the news media keep trying to dispirit Mitt Romney’s supporters and to show that Barack Obama will be the inevitable victor. Even after the polling has been packed with Democrats, Obama cannot show a convincing lead that would take him to victory.

Past polls have also shown Democrats leading their Republican opponents up to the election. One of the most dramatic was a Gallup Poll result 2 weeks before the 1980 General Election that showed Jimmy Carter to be far ahead of Ronald Reagan. Rush Limbaugh stated,

In a Gallup poll on October 26th in 1980, two weeks before the election, Gallup had it Jimmy Carter 47, Ronald Reagan 39. That election two weeks later ended up in a landslide that was so big that Carter conceded before California closed.

The New York Times verified this poll,

Ronald Reagan, who trailed President Jimmy Carter 47 percent to 39 percent in a survey completed on Oct. 26, 1980.

As did Wikipedia,

Arguably the most important event of the entire 1980 presidential campaign was the second presidential debate, which was held one week to the day before the election (October 28).[24] On October 26, two days prior to the debate, Gallup released a survey that suggested that Carter was leading Reagan by a margin of 47% to 39%.

A Gallup Poll of July 26, 1988, showed Michael S. Dukakis leading George H. W. Bush by 17 points. The New York Times reported,

One thing that is different today... there is a much higher percentage of advance voting. Just sayin’...

Yeah, and if the early voting was going Hillary's way, the M$M would be screaming it at the top of their lungs. It would be top story on every news program and front page of every English-language media outlet in the world.

Was voter fraud as much of an issue, and weaponized to the degree it is today, in 1980?

In many ways it was worse. The century-old Progressive movement, the Fabians owned all the national networks and had a stranglehold on both Parties. No one questioned the notion that Nazi Germany was a outlying 'conservatism,' for example.

Without going into the Goldwater v. Rockefeller or Reagan v. Ford and even Carter v. Kennedy, it wasn't so much that there were two sides requiring 'balance,' there simply was no other side.

As I recall we were criticized for not believing the polls that showed Romney down by double digits.

Well, in our defense, Romney lost by 3.8 points so any poll that had him down by double digits was still incredibly off. Unfortunately the polls we choose to believe, the ones that had Romney up +2 or +3 were wrong as well).

“And there was a Rasmussen Poll on 10/20/12 that showed Romney leading by 4 points.”

And the USC poll that now has Trump leading accurately showed Obama ahead in 2012 just before the election. Just saying.

Ahhhhhh, yes. Why, yes, I recall this widely spoken of in conservative circles in later times.

The Bushies and libs were fit to be tied the day after the silent majority poured on the cow bell!

Personally, I think Romney DID win by 1-2% but the Soros machine’s fraud took him out. I posted for days after the vote that something was fishy here in VA and when you look at the numbers in my precinct something clearly WAS fishy. in 2012 we had to wait in line for HOURS because “of computer problems”. We have voted there for 20 years and that was the ONLY election where you didn’t walk in and out. In the rest of the country Zero got less votes in 2012 except in our precinct where Zero got MORE votes in 2012 in spite of the fact there was less than 25% of the “enthusiasm” (yard signs, bumper stickers). I have repeatedly posted this again and again.

I fully expect that historians will be able to go through VA and a few other states, Ohio for one, and show that there is literally no statistical way for the result Zero enjoyed in 2012 to be what actually happened. If we had a real media it would have been published already.

I remember it well... Good Morning America had a pollster on with a map of America with all the states Carter was going to take (in the traditional liberal red) compared to Reagan states (in traditional conservative blue) and he claimed that although the polls were tightening Carter would come out on top.... Funny thing... When it was all done, this is what the map looked like... Remember, that's when blue represented Republicans (and still should represent Republicans) and red red represented the Democrats.

You are correct there. The USC poll did not understate obama’s support...which was, gag, the most common error in 2012.

Hillary’s rant of ‘We will all hang if Trump wins’

That statements makes me so very happy. I would so much love for Trump to win, just to see what sort of hurt drops on Hillary! and her goblins.

I don’t expect it will happen, but if it were even fraction of what she deserves, it would be spectacular.

I worked political campaigns in Ohio back in 65-80. Fraud existed in the guise of walking around money for both registration and voting. The GOP were masters at voter suppression (missing voting machines) in certain precients. Voter fraud is a time honored American tradition. The difference now is the electronic nature of elections, a target rich environment, and a complicit judiciary and media.

I think the argument is that Romney was ahead at this point, although I wonder if suffered at the end from an enthusiasm gap?

Also, I think the claim is polls are far more accurate now that they were.

What happens when an “early voter” dies before election day? Does his vote still count? Or does it depend on who he voted for?

But the Dems didn’t master the media, the polls and the dead vote like they do today.

You must have born after the mid 70's. That statement is not even close to reality.

If Hillary wins, the country will be on a trajectory towards real decline and not talking Hillary just raising tax rates 10% either. The things she wants to do will be broad and far reaching and our electoral system will truly be rigged for years to come.

It's real bad, we have one generation left until we completely collapse and are taken over by another nation state like a China\Russia\ Trans Latin American Federation as part of a globalist cabal. Talking mass murder, a destruction of our organized faith systems, institutions and family structure. Concentration camps, etc. Will take 50 years to fully institute things but I really can see a new Constitituioon being signed, and our country as we know becomes 5th century Rome, decaying and dying.

The elites though will have a nice run, a technocracy where a top 1% is walled off and lives a life of constant bacchanals and hedonism. Producing overpriced gizmos and technology to keep us further entertained and disconnected. If your kids are in university and are one of those placard carrying snowflakes, I'd be worried they are going to be the first murdered, the weak sheep always go first. The supposed intellectuals. Sorry if that scares some of you, but your kids will be sacrificed on that altar. So hug them tight, teach them to use a gun and realize, their generation did this and they will pay in their own blood. Many SJW Britneys and Dylans will be rotting corpses.

Then Jesus comes back and he says ENOUGH. So we win ultimately, God always wins, he's got this. But in for rough sledding if she wins, it's that dire.
