Russian Rustbucket (Carrier) Bumbling Along Channel 'Has Tow Boat In Case It Breaks Down'
Daily Express ^ | October 22, 2016 | By Vincent Wood

THE RUSSIAN aircraft carrier floating through the Channel in a show of Putin's naval might is a Soviet antique plagued by technical problems, it has been revealed.

The Admiral Kuznetsov, part of a fleet destined for Syria, was seen belching black smoke off the coast of Dover.

But while it looks daunting, the vast vessel is a relic of the Soviet era -- with the port side still bearing it's communist name - "Admiral of the Fleet of the Soviet Union Kuznetsov".

The ship even has a tow boat running alongside waiting for it to grind to a stuttering halt.

Ex-Royal Navy officer Peter Roberts said: "There's nothing more depressing for a naval captain when he leaves home waters than to be escorted by a tug because even your commander in chief thinks you are going to break down."

The ship frequently has to return to port so its steam turbines can be repaired, and its piping system often freezes in colder waters.

The chance of pipes bursting is so high that the majority of cabins for the 1,690 strong crew are reportedly not supplied with running water.

I read this yesterday and laughed.

This is what Obama resorts too. Playground banter.

Russia and Putin’s military force is JV. That’s what they’re saying.

Jut another one of the former Soviet Union’s naval shows of weakness?

LOL. Anyone else reminded of the Battle of Lepanto? Freedom loving Christians overcoming the Muslim horde while the English sat on the sidelines - so Elizabeth I could save her shillings.

Stick a sock in it Brits, you've made yourselves irrelevant.

I am sure only half of the nuclear weapons they drop on our cities will fail to go off. Obama is so wise to eliminate our fleet, nothing to rust.

Russian’s latest generation fighter jets, anti-aircraft missles and mobile, land and submarine based nuclear weapons are far from JV.
It’s a Very Bad idea to needlessly tweak the bear’s nose.

Strong possibility Obola and Putin are actually working together to deliberately shift power from US to Russia dominating weak Europe, tattered Middle East and strengthen China-Russia alliance as the New World military Superpower.

Don’t hold your breath waiting for Putin to come to your rescue. Putin is in Syria for his own interests, not some overarching concern about Muslim terrorism.

That's cool.

Putin reflects my interests more than Obama does.

The smoke that ship produces is insane, and indicative of really poor combustion. I served on a steam powered carrier that was the oldest combatant in the Navy. It never belched smoke like that.

I was a BT on a Fram tin can. If we made smoke like that under way, the Captain would have had a big piece of Cheng’s ass. Then Cheng would have a big piece of the Chief BTs ass and then the Chief would have a big piece of the fire room sups ass.
Because we didn’t have light off blowers we had to pressurize the fire room for light off. In port, we always lit off about 2 am so the Squad dog and the EPA did not see us making smoke.

Old Great Lakes steamers running on Number 6 oil don’t make black smoke like the Rooski does...

The Russians spent $50B on the winter Olympics yet have only one questionable fixed wing AC carrier.

This story is coming from a paper who’s country currently lacks an active aircraft carrier. Their first will only be commissioned next year.

You want to see a real sign of weakness? take a look at the continued sorties the Russians flew over ISIS last year.

5600 in 1st 100 days, some 9000 over 5 months. Talk to a maintainer for an idea what we could sustain after an initial surge depending on a lot of set up. I don’t know, but I suspect it is a fraction on a sustained basis.

So they have a pos carrier. Only one. Perhaps they have a different view of power projection that doesn’t depend of naval aviation.

American military is in decline, U.S interests and persuasions have weakened throughout the world due to Obama.

Meanwhile, both Russia and China are expanding spheres of influence and building military might.

I think we’re still fighting over the F35.

A Trump administration might be more of a consolidation presidency than transitional since much of what Obama has done cannot be readily undone, this is by design.

People point to Europe and Scandinavian countries as models of the socialism progressives want. What they fail to recognize is it was the U.S military might, influence and Nato that allowed them to.

Relieving them of the burden of having to keep an actual functional military that keeps the shipping lanes open, the borders secure from overt invasion.

It may be junk but they sure seemed to be kicking ass when they were in Syria. I wouldn’t want to be on the receiving team.
