Report: Presidential electors planning to undermine Electoral College
The Hill ^ | 11/22/2016 | Harper Neidig

A number of Democratic Electoral College electors are planning to use their votes to undermine the election process in opposition to President-elect Donald Trump, Politico is reporting.

Some electors are lobbying their Republican counterparts to vote for someone other than Trump in an attempt to deny him the 270 votes required to elect him, according to the news outlet. They are also contemplating whether to cast their votes for someone other than Hillary Clinton

With at least six electors already vowing to become "faithless," the defection could be the most significant since 1808, when six Democratic-Republican electors refused to vote for James Madison, choosing vice presidential candidate George Clinton instead.

The electors acknowledge that it is unlikely that they will be able to block Trump from gaining office, Politico reported, but they are optimistic that their effort will raise enough questions about the Electoral College to reform or abolish it.

"If it gets into the House, the controversy and the uncertainty that would immediately blow up into a political firestorm in the U.S. would cause enough people — my hope is — to look at the whole concept of the Electoral College," one of the electors told Politico.

It’s unclear how many, if any, Republicans have signed on to the effort.

Twenty-nine states legally require their electors to obey the results of the popular vote in their state.

Words of wisdom.

Exactly. Now the media is outright lying, and saying these are 6 Republican electors, in order to sow panic.

“This sounds suspiciously like the stories circulating about a “brokered convention” and then the ones about the #nevertrumpers stealing the nomination away from him at the convention. It gives the media something to yammer endlessly about, at least until December 19th, at which time they’ll be forced to yammer about something else.”

Agreed. Democrat/Clinton talking points. To hillary, the Electoral College is what stands between her (vote fraud) popular vote and the Presidency. This will not go away even after Trump takes office. Insurrection, agitprop, whatever it takes to complete Obama’s silent coup.

The reporting on this story is misleading. These are all DEMOCRATIC electors - no Republicans. So what they do doesn’t make a whole lot of difference.

Surprise, surprise.

Perhaps they want to see the right run with it and then mock them for believing more fake news stories.

So much for any commitment to report honestly.

They should be very wary of thwarting the ballot box solution.

I threw my hat in the ring as an Elector for the Republican Party in Utah. There are different sets of electors depending upon who won the state. They would have to get Republican electors to flip in swing states.

Good luck on that.

Not quite true; 21 states do not require the Electors to vote for the state’s popular vote-winner.

The states that matter have the laws. The stats whose electors are receiving death threats have the laws. The links confirming these laws are listed in my posts above.

The 21 states you refer to are not swing states that the knuckleheads are causing trouble in.

All you post is doing is furthering the disinformation bandied about by knuckleheads on the left.

If you had bothered reading, you would have seen the link I left which shows that none of this nonsense matters because Congress meets in a joint session on January 6 and they will decide and certify the electoral votes. As the link I left above proves, if there is a discrepancy caused by any state’s electors, then Congress votes on which is which.

Try to get the bigger picture. This is a gambit hatched by hard-core left knuckleheads. They have no chance of pulling this off. By keeping yourself uninformed, you join the knuckleheads in their foolish execution.

Now just imagine the uniparty media spin on all this if the electors were not going to vote for Hillary.

Liberals would be screaming about rules and laws and oaths electors took.

Uniparty media would be spinning them as crybaby traitor breaking the law and trampling on the Constitution.

And - the electoral college vote will be certified by a Republican Congress.

And finally - CWII.

All sorts of checks and balances. So no - Clinton won’t be president.

“Twenty-nine states legally require their electors to obey the results of the popular vote in their state.”

One would expect that the electors would follow the law. But we never know...

In future elections, if the popular vote would produce the opposite result as the electoral vote, all electors are free to vote as they choose.

How would that be different than a straight up popular vote?

The electoral college serves to protect us from tyranny. I wouldn't want to strip that protection.

I can see allocating the electoral college according to the results of the vote in that state. Perhaps by district, or proportionally. That would stop huge overrepresented states like CA from controlling how elections turn out.

How would that be different than a straight up popular vote?

Because a small state elector whose vote is key to giving the victory to the candidate who did not get the popular vote can keep his vote unchanged. The small states do not need to follow the big states, and they can still determine the outcome, even if it’s the opposite of the big states’ populous voters’ will.

There’s merit to your proposal, too. It’s what Maine does.

But there’s a big gap between California and New York voters and “red staters,” which has led to several elections in our lifetime in which electoral winners did not get the popular vote. Four by my count, although the election of 1960 was so suspicious that it might have been a fifth, but Nixon did not wish to find out in a recount. Some sort of reform to prevent this constant recurrence is called for.

The Evil Democrat Party will not be happy until they start a real Revolution within the US. Research the past 8 years objectively and you will see the White Race has been under a strong attack but it has been going on since the 1970’s at least.

Amen! Because the next “box” is the ammo box and there are literally millions of us.
If they think they got “trouble in the streets” now, pull this crap to thwart the election and watch what happens.
There won’t be a liberal left alive when the smoke clears.

If the electoral college goes, say goodbye to the United Staes of America. The electoral college is the strongest element in recognizing States Rights. Without it we are one major step closer to being ruled by a mob.

Sounds like someone was getting a little butthurt the other day. Even some of the states that have laws concerning faithless electors only issue a fine, there’s no other recourse.

Let’s be fair here; if the Hilldabeast had won, conservatives would be petitioning and pressuring Electors to jump ship as well. So let the libs give it the old college try, it’ll be more fun to watch their hopes be crushed yet again.
