Amy Grant Releases 200th Christmas Album

Sparrow Records and Christian recording artist Amy Grant announced Thursday the release of her new Christmas album, which becomes the 200th Christmas collection Grant has produced in her career, a record among all recording artists.

The latest offering, Greatest Hits From This Year’s Christmas Albums, which compiles some of the best songs from the other six Christmas albums Grant has released this year, arrived on shelves to a robust response.

Industry experts attribute the instant success of the album to a growing sense of unrest among Christians, who had not been blessed by a new Amy Grant Christmas album in almost three months.

Since Grant’s iconic “A Christmas Album” was released in 1983, she has compiled an impressive, extensive list of yuletide offerings, including bestsellers Home For Christmas, Christmas in My Backyard, My Second Best Christmas, Christmas All Year, Christmas: The Christmas Album, We Want Christmas and We Want It Now, We Bet You’ll Buy Another Amy Grant Christmas Album, From Christmas to Christmas, the Latin-flavored Mi Christmas Su Christmas, and 1998’s two-volume set The Amy Grant and Friends Christmas Anthology Collection Live From Tennessee.

A spokesperson for Grant says she hopes the album will produce a sense of wonder and anticipation for the release of Volume Two, due out next week.

As a kid, I remember we had an album of Burl Ives and another of Mitch Miller.

Oh the memories.

I get a smile every time I hear Burl on the radio.

Never hear Mitch though.

I am a Christmas junkie but even I have to admit that over the years Christmas music started fading on my list. However, my love for Christmas has been reinvigorated by the music of Pentatonix. They have given new life to many old standards.

Yep. She’s now married to Vince Gill ....

“You could have given me a million reasons why
But it wouldn’t change a thing
‘Cause you said it all when you said goodbye
And you took off your wedding ring.”

I lost a lot of respect for both of them.

He is known for his work with The Imperials and the Gaithers, but Russ Taff has a great Christmas album out. We listen to it every year and it doesn't get old. Try it, you may revise your opinion.

For purely religious Christmas music, I really like the album he did with the Imperials:

But you may have heard that one before....I still like it.

"Breath Of Heaven" is a very good song.

I really only know of Amy singing it.

LOTS of people have done "Mary Did You Know"
But Mark Lowry does it best. As the writer, he expresses best the emotion of the song.

December 7, we were waiting for our doctor to show up in the exam room.
It’s always a long wait, but he’s worth it.
For an hour, I was bombarded by Christmas music, whereas it’s normally oldies rock.
By the time he arrived, I’d started playing “Easy Street” endlessly on my iPhone.

He doesn’t watch The Walking Dead but the ‘joke’ was more for me, anyway.

:D

As a kid my dad played the Ray Conniff Singers Christmas Album until the needle on the phonograph wore out.

We also had the Slim Whitman Christmas Album. He hit notes on O, Holy Night that would shatter the good stemware.

Can’t do Christmas music since a stint in retail in my 20’s. Put in enough 80 hour weeks with that playing on continuous loop, and you’re good for the rest of your natural lifetime.

Didn’t she leave her husband for Vince Gill?

Yes she did. Well, she left her husband for someone, anyway. I think it was Vince Gill. In any case, I lost a lot of respect for her after that. I still like her music and will listen to it, but I don't buy any of it anymore. She brought disrepute upon the name of Christ, and I don't wish to reward her financially for that.

I contend that she never really believed in God except as a hook to make money.

I think that it would be easy enough to have had an age-appropriate level of faith that was neglected given her early successful career. Not a seed that fell into good soil, but a seed falling into very shallow soil close to thorns.
