The Senate is set for a showdown at noon Tuesday that will likely see Betsy DeVos, President Trump's nominee for education secretary, confirmed by the slimmest of margins with the help of Vice President Mike Pence, who is expected to cast a tie-breaking vote.
DeVos, who has been uniformly opposed by Senate Democrats, is perhaps the most reviled pick among Trump's Cabinet and administration selections. A staunch supporter of school choice, DeVos faced contentious confirmation hearings and even saw two Republicans break ranks and oppose her nomination.

I’m curious about nominees that Collins and Murkowski have voted for in the past on the democrat side.
I’m betting that their so-called standards are quite low EXCEPT when it comes to a republican nominee.
The only reason they don’t like her is she is Trump’s pick.
That and she is against the State taking over our children as young as possible.
The Federal government has NO ROLE in education.
NONE.

The Hateful Media has been running this story for the last 24 hours and now they will shockingly report the confirmation and pronounce the end of education and that children will starve.

I have a couple of local freinds who are teachers who were spouting the liberal talking points that she was “not qualified”
I reminded them of how often they spoke about what a mess the education system was, and that was by people who were “qualified”...
But do any Freepers know her background enough to explain why Trump picked her?
I am all for her, if Trump wants her there must be a good reason- and I think school choice is enough of a reason alone.

What a waste of time and money the Senate is. It only served a purpose when it originated as a body to represent the interest of the states, each of which appointed their senators. The direct election of senators killed its reason for existing, and now it does nothing but gum up government.
Good point. If these 2 had school aged kids at any point during their tenures in D.C., then I’m betting they went to private schools.

What a laugh! How many Congressturds send their kids to government run schools?
For that matter, how many government school teachers send their kids to government schools?
Heard on the radio this morning that the only reason the two Republican harpies don't like her is because they get LOTS of $$$ from the teacher's unions.
What I have found is that every liberal educator I know sends their kids to the best school in the district and usually the “whitest”.
Hypocrites. That’s if they don’t send them to private school.
