Lily Eskelsen García: Children are fearful to go to school as a result of immigration raids

NEA President: immigration raids send shock waves among students and families

WASHINGTON - February 10, 2017 -

Reports from news media and immigrant rights advocates indicate new Trump administration immigration enforcement raids are underway in several states, including Arizona, California, Texas, North Carolina, and Georgia. Advocates and media outlets are reporting chaos in schools and communities affected by the raids. In a North Carolina community, students witnessed arrests. Other communities are reporting that immigration agents are following schools buses.

The following joint statement can be attributed to NEA President Lily Eskelsen García and Texas State Teachers Association President Noel Candelaría:

"Children are fearful to go to school. Parents are desperately trying to find guardians for their children in the event they are detained or deported. We've seen this before. And it's happening again. This time, it is happening in the middle of the night or as students load up buses and head to school. This time it is happening without any oversight, review, or due process.

"The current raids are beyond reprehensible, they are inhumane, and they are a deliberate and coordinated attack on those who come to America seeking safety, freedom, and opportunity, and, in the process, make America a better country.

"These shocked and frightened families are our friends and our neighbors. Our students are collateral damage as a result of these raids. The heightened environment of intimidation and fear in immigrant neighborhoods is carried into classrooms by traumatized students.

"As the Trump administration threatens our students, their families, and our way of life, we will not stay silent. As families turn to their childrens educators for solace and advice, we are going accelerate ongoing efforts to create and implement commonsense policies like our public school safe zones where all students are welcome. Public school safe zones allow school boards to go on the record to that they won't allow immigration enforcement agents into their schools without a proper review process and that they are committed to the protection of student privacy via practices ensuring that no data is being collected with respect to students immigration status or place of birth.

"We call on the Trump administration and Immigration and Customs Enforcement to put an immediate stop to these abhorrent immigration raids in our communities."

children seldom have criminal records and therefore have no reason to worry.

Heck, ICE doesn’t have any reason to go to the schools. Grab the illegal parents and let the kids find out when they come home from school. Then it’s the parents’ responsibility to decide what they want to do with the children: take them with them when they’re deported or leave them for someone else to take care of ...

yes, it has... but obama released more hell than any of the other Presidents... what he did/allowed/encouraged brought on open riots and destruction ... plus the media sat at his feet... which made them look like teenagers and made him even more dangerous.

The world government has been in the making for years... but obama brought in more of the islam side... and that is anti christ material.... obama was so sickening.. . I could not stand to see him or hear him... he wreaked with pride.. he thought there was no one who measured up to him... he did not know what a lowlife he was.

Good. Be VERY afraid. You don't belong in that classroom seat you stole, receiving a stolen education a U.S. citizen's parents bought and paid for. From what I've seen the illegals aren't even the slightest bit grateful for that education, either.

At a NYC high school created especially for "Hispanic immigrant students here in the U.S. less than 4 years" (read: illegals), your tax dollars are paying for a beautiful new building where other kids have to sit in crumbling rodent-infested buildings, 100% bilingual teachers, bilingual textbooks, and---you'll love this---Monday is "Waffle Day", when teachers man waffle irons and dish out freshly made waffles for the students who make it to school on time. Can you imagine? Who gave you waffles for doing what you're supposed to do anyway, and for an education you're stealing from Americans? And don't think any of these kids are the slightest bit grateful---it's all coming to them. That's what their libtard teachers and administration tell them, and that's what the illegal immigrant advocacy groups tell them.

In another NYC high school with a militantly Hispanic principal, people getting off the elevator are greeted by posters saying stuff like "Columbus didn't discover American--he conquered it", etc. Nothing like crap like that to make American visitors feel welcome. Personally, I was appalled.

Your words are like mine. It killed me to see him elected TWO TIMES! He was an America-hating, passive-aggressive snake in the grass and I thank God everyday that we survived him.

Lets say you go on vacation...

and while you are gone a illegal alien family moves into your home and the pregnant wife gives birth in your living room.

you then come home...

do you let them stay? I mean .. heck.. the baby was BORN there in your living room! it would be racist to kick them out dont you think?

Suz, you make a cogent point. Mexicans who flee now will make a life much more easily than the latecomers.

Other Freepers have pointed out the profound consequences to the Mexican economy and society due to the mass repatriation of Mexicans.

Early adopters will see their dollar/peso go farther.

These Mexicans have a taste of Western Civilization. They have the potential to destabilize that corrupt regime.

Another country that wins due to Trump.

So the law which permits “birthright” citizenship has to either be changed, or correctly interpreted. Until we do so those children of foreigners are as American as our own.

I’ve heard arguments both ways, bad interpretation or bad law. Since I’m not a lawyer or a judge I can’t say which is correct. If it has to be changed those born here already will be grandfathered as ex post facto laws are a no-no.

The problem being that the revolution is as likely to lead to a Marxist state as a free state.

Whether they are citizens or not is another issue. The primary issue is to keep families intact, and thus the children should be kept with their family and deported along with them.

Parents are desperately trying to find guardians for their children in the event they are detained or deported.

Maybe these 'desperate' parents should chug on back to their home country, and quit illegally occupying space in these United States. Then they wouldn't have to fear being deported. Take the kiddies with 'em. We don't want to break up families, after all.
