Despite speculations to the contrary, US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson has met Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow. Some observers claimed this wouldn’t happen due to the tension between the two nations.
“Russian President Vladimir Putin is meeting US Secretary of State Tillerson and Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov at the Kremlin,” presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Monday evening.
Peskov did not elaborate on what the three discussed. Earlier in the day, Tillerson held a meeting with Sergey Lavrov.

This could all just be about the optics. Trump and Putin both preferring to see the other (stooping if you will) first meeting with their emissary.

Yep, and just in general. You can tell immediately if a man is faking gravitas.
Watch most Senators/Congressman give interviews and you can detect the talking points in the answer to the first question. You can watch people like Rex Tillerson and tell in five seconds that he’s the intelligent opposite.
I think he’s of the Mattis mold where the belief that the more allies you have, the more powerful you are (instead of being an absolute hard-liner on principle). Here’s hoping there’s enough principle to guide him in endeavors like this.

That is true..and as others have said the rebels who want Assad to go could very well use another chemical attack to get Trump “to do more” of what they want...as they said. Heck even our warmongers in congress could get one of McCains terrorist friends over there to set one off for some cold hard cash.

Me too. I’m glad I was alive and aware of what a great President Reagan was even though I was only a teenager. I remember watching TV with my Dad during election night when he beat Carter, even though I was around 9 at the time. I remember sitting in a high school history class, the irony, when we were told the Space Shuttle exploded. And I remember them playing his speech over the intercom while we cried.

He said he had absolutely no doubt it was Assad and his regime. I don’t know exactly what else you want from him. I don’t think he’s going to show the world our intelligence on this, because this is no longer the Obama Administration where they were constantly vomiting at the mouth.
Just be thankful that the chickenhawks here on FR have no real government power. There’s lots of sabre-rattling around here, but not a lot of thought. Unless that thought is “You only get peace through war”, “Only massive military build-ups will insure that no one threatens us”, or the ever so insightful “Why don’t we just nuke them?”

I like Tillerson very much. He is capable of keeping the ship on even keel come what may…Not so sure Trump is, after blasting Syrian airfield for what I consider little evidence Assad was to blame for gas attack .
