U.S. forces have dropped what is known as the "mother of all bombs" in Afghanistan. The device is the largest non-nuclear device in the Air Force arsenal, Fox News' Jennifer Griffin reported. It was dropped in Nangarhar Province, an eastern area near the Pakistan border. It's the first time the 21,000-pound ordnance has been used in combat, said Griffin. The device, developed in 2003 by the U.S. Air Force, is called the M.O.A.B, short for Massive Ordnance Air Blast. It's often referred to as the "mother of all bombs." Watch the report above.

There’s something poetic about a MOAB female bomb taking out ISIS. I wonder how many gals signed it before it was loaded?

From the article:

An advantage of putting MOABs on bombers is that they would be able to launch the weapons from higher altitudes, thereby producing greater standoff ranges, and they would be less vulnerable to air defenses than the low-flying MC-130 that conducted the live-fire demonstration.

Of course the problem with releasing such a bomb from standoff distances is the bomb itself becomes a target for air defense systems.

Trump is letting the world know that he plays to WIN!

He's won all his life without dropping bombs. That's why I voted for him. Yuuuuge negotiating skills. Bomb and missile hurling is so Hillary..

I seem to remember them talking about it at the time of Tora Bora operations , like they were using them, but I guess not. Or was it a smaller version? I know Gulf War I sped up its development and I thought it had been used then too.

Another book by a vet talks about watching a whole mountain disapearing, blown to bits.... or were these underground charges?

In WW-II, marines were assured that after massive air and naval barrages against tiny atols, they would go in unopposed.

Totally different weapon. They had to have practically a direct hit on a bunker, this weapon doesn't.

Wow, nice graphic.

The area affected by one of these bombs is 0.1 square miles (300² meters x 3.14)? Doesn’t seem as large an area as I would have thought.

I think the FAB was a gasoline air burst to level trees for an LZ. This one seem to be a penetrator using metal powders. Both have thermobaric effects

OK, so bomb the hell out of their poppy fields, but that doesn’t explain our troops in there.

He was correct and to me, the area after wards was like the mountains of the Moon. It sucks to clean up after the Air Force.

” whole mountain disappearing”

Thermobaric devices are frequently used for cave complex type things because they use up all the air. We have them in lots of sizes, MOAB is just the biggest one.

We also use bunker busters which are very massive designed to penetrate very deep before exploding. So yes, “underground explosions”

I was watching the daily Jay Sekulow Live stream on Facebook today, when this story broke.

Like me, they are elated over this action by President Trump.

As Jay and his panel reiterated, this bomb drop does much more than eradicate ISIS and their strongholds, it sends an unmistakable message to Russia, Iran, Syria, and North Korea to BACK OFF or face a similar and unexpected strike as well.

Jay Sekulow and those on his panel, could not stress enough how effective and brilliant this President is handling these serious matters on the international stage and has single-handedly, restored America as the irrefutable leader of the free world.

I am soooooooooooooooooo very proud of President Trump!!!

I believe the November Hellfires can do it in smaller scale. Soldiers would go in to finish clearing the buildings and come out vomitting talking of dudes with lungs aspirated out of their faces exploded with eyes and guts popped out.

Understand. I think my point was when this MOAB thing first came out, that’s all. Thanks!

Such statement is speculative until Spec Op’s examine the blast site.

I was just thinking about that. A very “interesting” assignment!
