Strategic thinking of the kind you outlined is beyond the ken of knee-jerk Trump-bashers, whose only consideration appears to be a need for instant gratification of their rigid dogma...
The current laws which were NOT being enforced for so long have now been buried by an unfathomable expenses in order to be restored.

Thanks for the encouragement. I half-way expected somebody to get angry with me for appearing weak on illegal immigration, particularly that which has already occurred.
I further think we may as well, figuratively speaking, hold illegal immigrants hostage of sorts, by ramping up rates of deportation enough to make it hurt ---but have a political plan in place, our own counter-demands ready to go when enough beg the Trump Admin to reduce deportations. Respond only to those who are polite, too. The rest, can go hang.
The recently elected POTUS & Admin does need to keep pressuring the issue of illegal immigration -- but pressuring with a plan, not simply reacting.
You should know also, that in the past on this forum, for myself having expressed criticisms of the Donald, I ended up with myself being [unfairly] labeled a "never-Trumper" by a few, even though the only time I ever considered not voting for the man in the general, was for reason of a whole lot of over-the-top nastiness dished out (on this forum) by Trump supporters to most any and all criticism of Trump, as if lock-step thinking here on FR would be the thing required thing that put him over the top. Phfft, yeah, riiight. We're not that influential anymore, not like we used to be...and who else could we (and other dependable conservative voters) be expected to vote for, anyway? Unless oneself in a totally safe Trump, and GOP district --- it wouldn't have been worth the risk to martyr one's own vote just to register feeble protest over some issue, or even a handful of issues and 'concerns' over the man's temperament. I seem to recall Cruz having talked along merciful lines (towards immigrants legal and not-so legal) and having been seriously roasted and condemned for it. It may have been over these so-called Dreamers, too. WHERE ARE THE APOLOGIES from the past 'Trumpaloons' a few who now are not too overly concerned by Trump having said the 'Dreamer's could rest easy?
There are people on this thread expressing their dismay who were never in any manner "never-Trump".
During the primaries a few times I went so far a couple of times as to use the term 'Trumpaloon' in describing a few of those supporters who make excuses for everything Trump said and did (while viciously attacking Cruz). Compared to what was being said about supporters of Cruz, that was down-right polite of me.
Yet we really do need to stop devouring our own, and figure out how to do that while still holding our representative's feet to the fire.
The infighting among ourselves is also something the Left sends trolls to help keep stirred up among ourselves, and I do suspect still have a few sleeper-troll sign-ups (that get real active during election seasons, then go dark for years...and more than a mere few of those being old-guard GOPe operatives too, I'd wager, along with some lesser number be hard-core DNC?
I wouldn't go that far with a wide tar-brush running either direction up and down the aisles. Generally we are better than that, yet the fullness of everyone's own positions not always come across well in three sentences or less.
Still, if (and when) there is disappointment with something or another, expressions of that could help lead to positive results for reason of being continual pressure from areas Trump, and the GOP in general could look towards for support ---because although we are not as highly influential as in the past (I admit I'm guessing about that) what we say here is what's on people's minds, and can spread beyond the mere electronic pages of this forum. It can also serve as a daily 'how's it playing in Peoria type of thing ---which some of the GOPe sleeper agent type could figure into their own calculations. On the danger side of things, they could use the knowledge to manipulate our 'opinions' too, as much as get a feel for what we here on FR individually and more collective think. It was amazing to see and hear just how much Trump had to say sounded like somebody had been reading FR, and feeding that into his ears -- although I think Trump naturally enough shared, and generally shares many opinions with freepers, the struggle there now possibly being "who has his ear now"? Nearly everybody wants to influence policy. Some people are a lot slicker at it (and have more practice) than others. Schmoozing and flattery has long played a role in politics, of course, but I'm stating the obvious. My apologies for being so long-winded.
It took many decades to get the U.S. into this immigration mess -- it could take some time to rectify the collective errors, some of which it is far too late to undo present damages. But what if we could make real American citizens out of significant numbers of Hispanics ---who had either immigrated here, or else were born here but still identify as Latino (and end up voting Democrat)---while making Republicans out of them, and drawing more black Americans to join with also?
Pull that racist rug right out from underneath the Democrats. Trump -- The Merciful! hehhehhehh, I love it. But we have to stay ahead of "them", the 'Rat Party, and keep them on their hind-feet, hitting them with so much every fricken day their heads keep spinning like tops. They did that to us -- now do it right back, and harder (and better, and faster, and cheaper!).
Our causes are not racist, our causes are based upon principles. Anyone of any race can join, but truly join with us, and with this nation, they must. Not simply "occupy". Many already have (and are already freepers too).
That said;
Never give the Leftists ANYTHING -- not without a price tag, and our lowly selves getting what we and the Nation needs accomplished for the greater good.
