"Rock Island"
I get the biggest kick out of that scene as it is a great example of Hollywood allusion. If you look out the train window as those guys are bouncing, you'll notice neither the scenery, nor the train bounces - the guys are bouncing up and down on their toes.
I noticed that about the scenery, too.
I saw The Music Man at the Los Angeles Philharmonic Auditorium--now a parking lot--on August 18, 1958. The sets were not very sophisticated, and the railroad car in which the "Rock Island" scene was set had lights flashing on and off, in progression, outside the windows of the car to give the illusion that it was moving.
Interesting. I didn’t know that. According to Wikipedia, “lyrics written by Pat Boone.” Love the lyrics, too.
