Trump sets red line for Mueller on Russia probe, warns he'll expose 'conflicts'
FOXNews ^

President Trump’s frustration with the Russia probe boiled over in a fiery new interview where he set a red line for Special Counsel Robert Mueller, warning against digging into his family finances beyond the Russia scope and suggesting he’ll soon start talking about the ex-FBI director’s “conflicts.”

The president has regularly complained about the Russia meddling probe, before and after it was placed in the hands of the special counsel. But his comments to The New York Times indicate he’s preparing to get even more aggressive in challenging the credibility of the investigation.

Significantly, he said Mueller would cross a red line if he started looking at Trump family finances going beyond any Russia connection.

''I think that's a violation. Look, this is about Russia,” Trump said.

The interview leaves unclear under what circumstances, if any, he might order the Justice Department to fire Mueller. But he complained anew that the special counsel was hiring lawyers who donated to his general election rival Hillary Clinton and called him out for having interviewed for the job to replace ex-FBI Director James Comey just before his appointment.

The president said after Mueller was named, he said to himself, “'What the hell is this all about?' Talk about conflicts. But he was interviewing for the job. There were many other conflicts that I haven't said, but I will at some point.''

In the same interview, Trump also issued a remarkable denunciation of Attorney General Jeff Sessions, one of his earliest and staunchest supporters, for having recused himself in the Russia case.

"How do you take a job and then recuse yourself?" Trump asked rhetorically. "If he would have recused himself before the job, I would have said, 'Thanks, Jeff, but I’m not going to take you.'"

I totally disagree. Exposing how the left stacks the deck, all under cover of a “legitimate independent investigation”, NEEDS to be exposed. By the time this is all done, the corruptocracy should be standing bare naked for all to see.

Unless and until that is done - with the deep state groveling for its lives as America realizes the treason being committed - this nation cannot heal and will be forced into Civil War II.

Period.

I couldn’t agree more. Had a friendly discussion with a good friend over the weekend and I said that Trump needs a governor on his mouth. He took offense at that. He simply doesn’t understand that Trump keeps feeding the ammo to the media and he keeps complaining they’re on the same subject all the time. Well, for goodness sake, shut up. What he said about Sessions should never have been said for public consumption - not after all Sessions did for him during the campaign. A really great guy and to think he might be gone after giving up his Senate seat for that position is sad. We needed him in the Senate more...

Simple criticism about Trump doesn’t mean we don’t support him and aren’t happy to have him in the Oval office...But we all learn to have a responsibility to stop reckless talk. Now he issues another “threat”? Has the man never learned to act his age?

Trump should never have hired that snake in the grass Mueller.

Its way too late for that. Mueller has expanded into their business dealings. Firing mueller wont stop that.

Piasa pinged me to a story I had forgotten about from years ago. Guy makes a comment to a broker right before twin towers attack. Results in investigation ..they end up nailing him and some fbi agents on something else.

Firing Mueller wont stop investigation into his business. They are looking for money laundering. They wont forget Eric’s alledged comment

In a press conference a few minutes ago, Sessions says he is not resigning and will continue directing the Administrations “Agenda” at DOJ.

The problem with Sessions resigning or being fired is, who would replace him?

First of all, who would be willing to take the job under these circumstances? And who could get confirmed under the current Senate configuration?

Not a good situation.

So Jeff offers to leave when POTUS doesn’t want him to and then refuses to leave when the POTUS obviously does want his resignation.

That’s a bigger whiff of Deep State than I’d like coming off my AG.

That's how the Democrats do it and it works.

It works because no one calls them on it. The media works for them. They have roughly half or more of government in their pockets. The GOP wouldn't challenge a butterfly if it had a (D) after it.

On the other hand, if Trump does anything, he'll have to deal with a hostile Press, Democrats, and GOP. This is a mine field they've laid before him.

Well my resume was 1700+ in the new admin’s que and as both retired Army and Department of State, a former Inspector General for Investigaitons/Assistance, IT both State and DA Civil Service at age 60 did not hear squat. Seems they want to keep the swamp dwellers on the payrolls.

Mueller just showed his cards. This is now an opposition research campaign, and has nothing to do with the election.

Bye bye Mueller.

Rosenstein needs to shut this $hit down now!

Comey and Mueller are both Deep State and I’d be damned if I’d allow myself and family to be ‘executed’ by them using tax payers money. And yes, Sessions is an inept clod who needs to step down after yesterday. How he could choose to remain in office, knowing DJT thinks he acted like a fool, is confirmation that he is one. People like this could only exist in government, the private sector would bounce them all out on their asses.

Rosenstein needs to shut this $hit down now!

Do you think he has the guts to do that? He should never have appointed a SC in the first place and only did it to take the heat off himself.

He needs Mark Levin for an "interim" AG, as I'm sure he doesn't wish to give up his current job(s) for the "paltry" salary career government employees are given for the entire four to eight years!

Levin could then clean house, and I have no doubt Mark knows exactly who and why to eliminate them, ASAP!

Levin could then go about hiring new employees and staff that den of vipers with new "career employees," along with help from Larry Arn, Hillsdale College and Liberty University grads.

Trump should announce that Mueller has a year to do the investigation and that he is gone. That for the good of the country this will not drag on like the others with a guy that is associated with one of the potential targets, Comey who has appointed a bunch of Dems to his team. Then he should indicate that the first leak out of the special prosecutor office he will push for a special counsel to investigate Comey independently and the special prosecutor’s office for leaks.
Underscore the charade that it is until it loses all credibility

On the other hand, if Trump does anything, he'll have to deal with a hostile Press, Democrats, and GOP.

If he does nothing they will still attack him.

I said long before he took office that he would have to be just as ruthless as Obama was in order to undo any of this. The Constitutional Conservatives insisted that he strictly act according to the Constitution as if we hadn't abandoned the Constitution over a hundred years ago.

We can not restore Constitutional Government it will have to be imposed, either by a powerful leader or the 2A solution.

Ted Cruz

I think Ted still wants to pursue the presidency and is unlikely to be interested even in SCOTUS, let along the AG job.
