Top officials on Donald Trump’s presidential campaign rebuffed requests from a lower level volunteer seeking meetings between the then-real estate mogul and Russian government, according to email exchanges leaked to The Washington Post.
According to The Post, George Papadopoulos, an energy consultant, sent a half-dozen emails to Trump campaign officials suggesting and requesting meetings between Trump and members of the Russian government, including Vladimir Putin.
The campaign emails, which were read to The Post by an unidentified source, reveal a previously-undisclosed connection between a member of the Trump campaign and the Russian government. Papadopoulos indicated in some of the emails that he had contacts close to the Russian government.
But the exchanges also run counter to the allegations that the campaign colluded with the Russian government prior to the election.
That’s because Papadopoulos, a former research fellow at the conservative Hudson Institute, had his requests for meetings shot down by campaign officials, including policy director Sam Clovis.
Papadopoulos sent his first inquiry on March 24, 2016, just three days after he was announced as an adviser on the campaign. In an email to Clovis, which had the subject line, “Meeting with Russian Leadership – Including Putin,” Papadopoulos suggested “a meeting between us and the Russian leadership to discuss US-Russia ties under President Trump.”
Clovis opposed the idea.
“We thought we probably should not go forward with any meeting with the Russians until we have had occasion to sit with our NATO allies,” Clovis responded, according to The Post.
Chuck Kubic, a retired rear admiral and campaign foreign policy adviser, also cautioned against the request.
“Just want to make sure that no one on the team outruns their headlights and embarrasses the campaign,” he wrote.

Wonder if Ivan Timofeev knows Podesta and friends. Wondering because he pops up only after Papadopolous fails to arrange a meeting, is shot down, to claim that Papadopolous tried to call them to arrange a meeting.
Sounds to me like Timofeev is trying to reinforce or establish the appearance that Papadopolous was acting on his own and wasn’t put up to it by either the FBI, the Russians, or the Clinton campaign, maybe even Fusion GPS.

For the first time, Trump also listed members of a team chaired by Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.) that is counseling him on foreign affairs and helping to shape his policies: Keith Kellogg, Carter Page, George Papadopoulos, Walid Phares and Joseph E. Schmitz.
Or he was working with the British guy Christopher Steele.
...Which if that’s the case would mean Papadopolous was put up to it by the Dems and FBI since both the Dems and the FBI hired former UK MI6 guy Christopher Steele via Fusion.
Talk about collusion...FBI and foreigners trying to trap Trump in a sting.
Another thing that happens after Papadopolous gets shot down is Sally Yates decides to send a heads up memo warning employees about the Hatch Act. Why did she pick March 2016 to do that?
Carter Page, Sessions and Kubic, even Manafort, shut down Papadopolous’s attempts in March 2016...
Now we know the Dems were using the law firm of Marc Elias , Perkins Coie, to given this Fusion GPS conspiracy cover through attorney-client privilege.
I wonder if the DNC server that the Dems would not allow the FBI to see has any mention of Dem communications with Timofeev or Papadopolous in it? Would Seth Rich have had contact with the equally young Papadopolous?

I wasn’t happy about some of these choices at the time, but I’d never heard of Popodopolous.
Just heard the local radio news say that this Bozo has a deal with Mule Deer to dish some dirt on the Trump Campaign in exchange for his pleading Guilty a Month ago.
Doesn’t sound like an accurate assessment to me.
More likely this bozo just had some info to give up on Manafort and Rick Gates.
Manafort apparentlu gave in to the little squirt and had the meeting in June.
Mueller’s going to try to flip Manafort into drawing someone else in.
