Only 37 percent of U.S. 12th graders were prepared for college-level coursework in mathematics and reading in 2016, but many public school districts have become fixated on the latest progressive trend of social and emotional learning. There is little to boast about when it comes to the state of U.S. education.
As Breitbart News reported in April of 2016, only about 37 percent of U.S. 12th graders are prepared for math and reading at the college level, according to the 2015 National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) also known as the Nations Report Card.
A recent report also found that U.S. high school students are earning more As in the classroom, but declining in scores on the SAT achievement test a clear sign of artificial grade inflation, say experts.
In addition, results of the 2015 Trends in International Math and Science Study (TIMSS) and the Program in International Student Assessment (PIS) found American students showing, at best, mediocre performance in math, science, and reading.
Taking PISA and TIMSS together, the news isnt great, especially considering that we spend more on K-12 education than almost any other country in the world, wrote Catos education director Neal McCluskey.
Nevertheless, school districts, worked into a frenzy by the federal government and the tech-ed industry, have become orgasmic about social and emotional learning (SEL) how to measure it, teach it, and produce the kind of child any government or Chamber of Commerce could love.

Noticing the poor math skills, I’d be curious if many would be able to name the presidents depicted on the dollar bills or what the red stripes on the American flag represented, or even the basic dates in U.S. history (but of course, that all entails slavery and white supremacy).
Elevate SEL as part of the school culture pause for 3 silent breaths as a school body together at the start and end of day, and between class periods over the PA system, build-in SEL modules into curriculum (PE, Social Studies, Health, Biology, Environmental Science); reward acts of kindness, replace detention with reflection/contemplative sessions, train students to be mindfulness/yoga peer facilitators for an afterschool club.
In May, Natasha Singer wrote at the New York Times that tech giant Google with its plethora of Chromebooks and free classroom apps is helping to drive a philosophical change in public education prioritizing training children in skills like teamwork and problem-solving while de-emphasizing the teaching of traditional academic knowledge, like math formulas.

Yep, can't be wasting time teaching actual knowledge in skools...
.
I’m glad I don’t have to put up with the BS that is called the public education system, but I call it the Public Indoctrination Center and Socialism System...and one of my homeschooled friends said private education is not that great either...
There’s no math, history or science involved in pulling the democrat lever, so what’s the big deal?
As long as they can understand the meaning of “(D)” or “Democrat” on the four or five ballots they are asked to fill out, everything will be OK. :)

Yep, Teamwork is the ticket to sucess. Depend on the smart smucks to pull you along while everyone pretends you are just as capable. Sounds like dumbing down to the lowest 1/3 of the class because they can’t read, write,or compute numbers.
The crappiest education in the world, overall...including all the muslim indoctrination.
The typical liberal indoctrination center (schools) are no better than Madrases.
The solution is to throw more money (i.e, taxes) at the problem. We need to divert defense sending to the schools and let the Air Force hold cookie sales to buy new bombers. Pay teachers what generals are paid.
So says the Left. Balderdash, tommyrot, egads and gadzooks, say I.
Possibly only 37%of high school graduates should be going to college. How many of the remaining 63% can do the simple math and reading required for many non-college occupations?
The social engineering is in full swing, and it’s working. Turning normal kids into compliant insecure sheep so they can be more easily manipulated. No need to learn math, English and science, because non-Americans are coming into the country to take the kids’ jobs and eventually to replace them.
If the kids are too smart, they may resist the forced replacement and cause the government great grief. Oh, and make sure they watch a lot of “two and a half men” to turn them into slaves of their lower reptilian appetites.
Prayer is back in school.
They just are not praying to God Almighty any more.
Everything depends on establishing this love in a republic; to inspire this love is the principle business of education.
Can’t have future slaves of the socialist-democrat plantation learning and thinking for themselves, now can we?
Before the emancipation, it was a crime to teach the slaves how to read or write.
This has been the case throughout history. Wash, rinse, repeat.

Interesting - I have been calling them “emotionally crippled social misfits by design” for a long time. This article bears me out.
The Millennial’s successors think they’re a-holes.
